I didn’t say only the poor complain about ‘dumsor’ – NDC MP

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, Ebenezer Teye Larbi has denied saying “only poor people complain about the energy crisis”.

According to the MP on the Ultimate Breakfast with Prince Minkah, the report is totally false and that he is surprised to have been quoted by various media platforms over statements he did not make.

“This is what I said and you can quote me anywhere: Nana Akomea’s rendition during our discussion was like someone singing a dirge at a funeral. He was behaving as if the whole country was crumbling and that he was over-flogging the issue.

“And that government had come out to give us timelines, some of them which failed, which government could not make, but there were reasons why that had. Now government has given us up to the end of the year to solve the problem,” Larbi remarked.

The NDC MP said he mentioned that technology had also added up to the existing problem with the issue of mobile phones usage.

Reports are rife that the NDC MP who appeared on Accra-based Asempa FM expressed shock over the exaggeration of the effects of Ghana’s energy crisis.

He is also quoted to have made a similar “smart business” comment to that of president John Mahama, but Larbi refuted the claims, stating he rather said “Ghanaians should start thinking about the box and conserve power”.

The legislator, however, believes his argument was misconstrued probably because he was interacting in the local dialect.

“Maybe because I spoke Twi on the programme, that is why they misquoted me,” he suggested.
