Our mothers are finding it difficult to cater for our families by selling yoko gari, agble kaklo, and agble ma. Stupid Belinda. Nigeria is richer than Ghana where I have lived there for long yet they have partially privatized the electricity company(NEPA). Ghanaians say they prefer property owning policies but they want to government to hold on the the state-owned companies of the great Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Hypocracy of the highest order that will enable them steal state income.

If TUC would volunteer to get all Institutions and Corporations to pay utility bills on time, I support their move. Government alone says it can't manage the sources of utilities. TUC is fully aware for instance, that students of Tertiary Institutions which have been proposed to share in paying Utility bills are crying foul and vowing mayhem in the country. Is TUC prepared to stand in for the Government? I believe privatising the ECG would be in the right direction to ensure continuous flow of electricity in Ghana.

n 2014, the Public Services Research Unit conducted a review looking at the difference in efficiency between the public and private sectors. They concluded: “The results are remarkably consistent across all sectors and all forms of privatisation: there is no empirical evidence that the private sector is intrinsically more efficient.” This finding is echoed by a whole host of studies into privatisation in both developing and developed nations, which show that the idea of greater efficiency in the private sector is a myth. This applies to water, but also equally to other utilities. A review of the experience in privatizing electricity in Norway, Canada (Alberta) and the USA (California), as well as the UK, concluded that markets did not deliver lower prices and higher efficiency because small groups of producers abuse market power. (Woo et al, 2003).Above was quoted from a study done in England.

The TUC may be crying wolf given the history of privatization in this country. But l believe with proper education and monitoring the issue of electricity can be made plausibly credible. This operates in most democracies where competition is encouraged in the sector for efficiency and quality service. There could be several providers regulated by sane and working regulations . The customer's makes the choice for the most efficient and value for money provider. Let us give it a chance . May be we are apprehensive due to the usual fear of the unknown
