They do not see the political position as a job, especially the topmost job "president" They think they are above the law, unaccountable to the people that pay them. They see it as an opportunity to become millionaires and help their family members and friends. People in the developed world do great things before becoming millionaires, but people in the uncivilized world steal in one way or the other. They import without paying taxes, they use foul means to win contracts but are unable to do satisfactory job. The richest woman in Africa was poor until she became a friend of the wife of the president. The Mahamas became millionaires after one of them became the vice president of a dying president Mills. Our image is going down hill because of the stupidity of the people we employ to lead us. Important decisions are made based on selfish interest of a few.

Corruption in Ghana is known to be given. The question is what to do about it. Our politicians talk about law and order, but if corrupt people are not held accountable, then there is no order. The idea is not to stamp out corruption completely because it is impossible to do so, but the net must catch as many and as in significant positions as possible for a good start to be made.

When the majority leader was copied with letters that saw a doctor cruelly victimized with a mental illness and sacked many began raising eyebrows in the manner in which the doctor was dismissed with Alban Sumani Bagbin then as Health Minister was deeply involved. The doctor's case was not the first time Alban Bagbin machinations in the dark have seen people he perceive as opponents or threat suffer in public institutions.Alban bagbin as it is known among the youth in the Upper West Region uses his ill gotten wealth and position to persistently sabotage his own brothers and sisters in typical Machiavellian style of politics.Sabotage through dismissals ,salary blockage and transfer to remote areas is one of Alban Bagbin lethal weapons to have strangle hold onto power to maintain his bloating superego and cult status. But what held many spell bound in the case of the doctor who he claims to be his relative was the level of heightened corruption and illegality associated with his dismissal through an indefinite suspension. The doctor first and foremost complaint and reported heinous acts of corruption in Effia Nkwanta hospital that needlessly killed patients whiles management illegally enriched themselves. In fact the doctor became instant target of the Medical Director of Effia Nkwanta hospital Dr paul K Ntodi who already had an acrimonious relationship with him when a bribery scandal led to the death of teenager Patient Sakpetey who could not pay a bribe of 50 ghana cedis for blood transfusion. In fact the blood was cruelly withheld by the laboratory technician that night to force relatives to go to town to look for the illegal fee he was charging and by the time they returned the teenager was gone.Patient Sakpetey unfortunate demise as a result of a corrupt act was widely captured and discussed on various platform following a News Paper publication. The Medical Superintendent falsely pointed accusing finger at the doctor as the one who leaked the story and subsequently wrongly dismissed him at the level of the Regional Hospital. The doctor realizing a conspiracy with the Regional Health Directorate took his case to CHRAJ,western Region and duely won.Dr Ntodi was compelled by CHRAJ to reinstate the young doctor and forced to produce a copy of a final report on the doctors mental status he has been hiding from him after forcing the doctor to undergo a series of psychiatric assessment whiles subjecting him to some heinous atrocities in an attempt to jeopardize his young carrier. The doctor for the first time in years saw the content of his Mental Report which Dr Ntodi was forced to disgracefully dumb at CHRAJ for collection. The report declared the doctor did not have a problem but rather charged authority to be fair in their dealings with him and avoid prejudice.Dr Ntodi clearly peeved by this vowed he will ensure the sacking of the doctor from the Ghana Health Service should the young doctor refused to leave the hospital. He accordingly stated in a management meeting that he is a 'westerner' referring to his native wassa tribe and will not allow a northerner from nowhere to come an disturb him in apparent reference to the doctor.Dr.Ntodi alas marshaled every effort using his position, ethnicity, political links and even the catholic church as a Knight of Marshal to eventually callously kick out the doctor from the Ghana Health Service. In a grand conspiracy largely through the efforts of the Chief Psychiatrist the young doctor received a letter signed by the Chief Psychiatrist Akwasi Osei asking him to present himself for further psychiatry assessment at the instance of the Chief Psychiatrist with the letter copied to Dr Araba Sefa Dede obviously to ignore and circumvent a final report by the experienced, intelligent and honest clinical psychological to stifle and damage the young practitioner. When the doctor replied referring to heinous atrocities Dr Ntodi subjected him with documentary and pictorial evidence of same in GHS headquarters and the fact that he has gone through similar exercise and cleared, the GHS won't just bodge in their ruthless pursuit to 'kill off' the young doctor. The doctor also stated that he won his case at headquarters when the Region's Disciplinary Committee cooked a report to make adverse findings against him following confrontation with nurse Sarah Arthur which Dr Ntodi has been using as bases to propagate loud lies by claiming he was suffering a mental illness. In fact Headquarters had stated categorically that further investigations were to be conducted on the matter noticing lapses in the Regions Report. The doctor also stated how his promotions and salary arrears were held for years in an attempt to frustrate and punish him.The Ghana Health Service blatantly ignored all these and surprisingly sacked the doctor under the cover of an indefinite suspension because he refused compulsory assessment and treatment for what they termed 'possible delusional disorder' in a letter signed by a new Director General Dr Ebenezah Appiah Denkyira who refused the young doctor audience by avoiding him in less than a month of assuming post. The letter was surprisingly copied to then Minister of Health Alban Bagbin who himself had written details of massive corruption and illegalities in that hospital. When Alban Bagbin himself finally met the doctor in Parliament House and sort to convince the young doctor to join the private sector oblivious of the irreparable damage and losses the Ghana Health Service inflicted on the doctor, eyebrows about his role in the sacking of the doctor regarding his close relationship with Appiah Denkyira as one of his Directors at the Health Ministry were raised.Alban Bagbin then told the young doctor he lobbied for Appiah Denkyira to become the Director General and there was no problem reinstating him subsequently demanding copies of documents from him.Through his lady friend who linked the young doctor to him he gave out a defunct mobile number that was never in use and that was the end of the story. It has just recently been established that he has been exploiting the young doctor's poor and illiterate uncle by taking huge swabs of the doctor's grandfather's land for extensive mango and maize plantation in his village at Tumu- Welembele without his knowledge with absolutely no meaningful compensation paid despite shipping mangoes and maize in commercial quantities for sale in addition to defacing and degrading their lands. On top of it he conspired to get their natural breadwinner out of job to subject these ignorant and poverty riddled kinsmen to perpetual slavery of exploitation.Whiles he is building fleet of mansions and multi-million business empires throughout the Country the sacked doctor's uncle being used as cash cow cannot afford a descent meal.Alban Bagbin, majority Leader present a vivid picture of how people have become so powerful and wealthy to turn against their own people used as conduits of prosperity glory and power. It is not for nothing that people who do not understand the essence of politics as a tool for development and socioeconomic empowerment of the less privileged are all interested in becoming parliamentarians oblivious of the fact that the legislature is a primary advocacy platform for the very less privileged.Unfortunately for northern Ghana relatively far more deprived than the south, parliament is a lucrative business ground and an opportunity for self aggrandizement and cult status rather than service to humanity.
