Political parties tend to reward communities they like and ignore others. This is usually based on ethnicity or votes garnered. In communities that voted against them they lookout for people of certain ethnic groups and award scholarships to them as well as providing them with monthly stipends.
Some communities have had this problem since Independence. A certain phenomenon can now be observed in our society.

Much as I sympathise with the chief Nana Badu Afriyie, I fail to see why they are asking government for help. When you allow illegal mining - galamsey- this is what happens. The rivers become polluted. If bold steps had been taken to stop these illegal mining activities, this could have been avoided. Now you have a whole village suffering including the people involved in this illegal mining activities. Stop the illegal mining activities and gradually the river will return to its purity again.
