The article is not clear if these are public or mission schools. If they are public schools then why are there church services anyway? If they are mission schools then I can understand where the schools are coming from. If you attend a catholic school obviously you have to attend masses regardless of whether you are Methodist, Muslim or whatever, (unless of course going to church service is not compulsory) most mission schools make Bible Knowledge (BK/RK) a part of the school curriculum so that is why if you really don't want your child to be thought about the bible as in the case of Muslims, you don't send your child to a Christian mission school. Mormon students go to Brigham Young University for the same reason, and even non Mormon students who attend Brigham Young University are made to sign a code of honor code which include strict adherence to the school's mission.
I agree with Omane that no one should be discriminated against when it comes to attire for work, unless there is a strict dress code like in the army or police etc., as long as the dressing is decent that should be acceptable and I consider hijabs decent and allowed in a company's dress code. Sure,if your are working for say the Catholic or a specific religious office (but why would a muslim work for a religious group outside of their Muslim region) then I would guess the employer could have the freedom to ask you to dress a certain way, just as say you go to Saudi Arabia and whether you are Muslim or not they expect women to cover their heads, not drive etc.

When Isam reached those places after 632 AD (after Mohammed's death), a cultural, functional symbol became a part of religious practice. It has nothing to do with modesty. Church services in such schools are part of official school gatherings and requires that all students make themselves available. That's all. I think compelling them to attend Church service is not right but for the government to say they should allow them to cover their faces in the Christian schools is equally infringement on the rights of those schools,they cannot promote their religion on the campus of other religious institutions.
These schools have uniform codes which they send to various students before they go there which does not include scarfs or whatever to cover their faces so if they don't like the uniform codes in those schools they should choose different schools,we need to respect the religious practice of those schools,they have been practicing these codes forever.
This government should be careful not to impose Muslim religious practice on Christian schools.

The moment a student is admitted into a Boarding house, the school's admn assumes responsibilities of that ward. That is why teachers sometimes have to accompany students even to hospitals as it was in my case at Okuapemman school.I am a professional teacher and an administrator. At any school gathering of students, there should be teachers present but not pastors or Immams. Should teachers be forced to attend any worship against their will. How many teachers are moslems to supervise students during worship.
I taught at Ghana Secondary School at Tamale in the 80s and moslem students were allowed to observe their religion. However, if you attended St. John Bosco, that was not allowed unless under special conditions. Why can't moslems build their schools so that their children can wear Habib to school. Ask Mormons if they will allow Moslem students to wear habib to school for the sake of toleration. Ask Moslem schools if they will allow Rastafarians to attend their schools in their dreadlocks. My solution is, let moslems build their own schools so their wards can follow Koranic laws.

I won't even send my child into boarding school to be exposed to homosexuality and lesbianism. Very soon boarding schools will be a thing of the past.
Like in most developed countries why don't we abolish boarding school system and develop community based schools? My child will only go to boarding in the University and at lower levels he or she will be a day student so l can teach him or her myself.
This religious chaos must be straightened by the Ministry and GES else they are not fit to be in such positions.

Much as I disagree with the missions in taking back their schools, I also want to stress that those schools have their code of ethics and conducts so that if yours do not mesh with them, it is not wise enrolling in their schools. I know for sure that before a student is admitted to any of the mission schools, that student is given a prospectus and made to sign to conform to the status quo of the school, otherwise that student would not be admitted. My question is why will a Moslem child sign the agreement form and then protest that she is forced to practise Christianity? These dementive politicians are misinterpreting the constitution. I can't join a moslem and refuse to submit myself to the practices. What these people are saying is absolutely nonsensical. It is manifestation of conflict against Moslems and Christians. We live in peace as one people. This issue should not be tolerated. Those schools are not infringing on their rights. You can't be in the army and say your belief doesn't tell you to kill therefore you will not go to war when the need arises. This issue must be addressed with sensible minds

In the first place, no one prevents moslem women from wearing their hijab. They have the freedom to wear it to the mosque where they actually are supposed to be worshiping Allah. They can wear it when they move around town such as the market, public programs etc. One thing they should always remember is that, the Christians schools and institutions have their rules and regulations, have their values and purpose of establishing their institutions for that matter no other religion can come and dictate what should be done in their institutions. As far as the constitution talks about freedom of religion and practice, church institutions have the right to operate within their religious beliefs and whoever decides to go to such christian institutions must equally be ready to abide by the tradition there. Otherwise, moslems should send their wards to moslem schools or attend only moslem hospitals so that churches can also do same. Going beyond the moslem demand, are they saying that every religion should be allowed to dress according to their religious dressing code? Then moslem police officers and military officers, nurses and etc be allowed to wear the hijab to work. The fact is that the wearing of hijab has serious security implications. Are they "ninjas' or arm robbers who want to disguise themselves from people? These were some of the tricks some insurgences dress to attack people. This kind of dressing will promote many hard criminals to disguise themselves and cause mayhem to others since they may not be properly identified. Some male moslems can even dress like women in the hijab to throw bomb blast at public places. We must not therefore encourage these in Ghana. That dressing is Arab dressing code. It is not a religious dressing code. We must draw the line between religion and rules and regulations regarding institutional culture and norms. The Govt has erred in issuing out the statement. It is unnecessary and propaganda. Govt always want favour from moslems for voting. Indeed the peace council has come out to state they were going to look at the concerns already. Why will Govt come out with this statement. It is totally wrong and a show of immaturity and lack of understanding of the issues. As a christian, we would not allow moslems to determine how we should run our institutions? Food for thought Thanks
