If they are mission schools then I can understand where the schools are coming from. If you attend a catholic school obviously you have to attend masses regardless of whether you are Methodist, Muslim or whatever, (unless of course going to church service is not compulsory) most mission schools make Bible Knowledge (BK/RK) a part of the school curriculum so that is why if you really don't want your child to be thought about the bible as in the case of Muslims, you don't send your child to a Christian mission school. Mormon students go to Brigham Young University for the same reason, and even non Mormon students who attend Brigham Young University are made to sign a code of honor code which include strict adherence to the school's mission.
I agree with Omane that no one should be discriminated against when it comes to attire for work, unless there is a strict dress code like in the army or police etc., as long as the dressing is decent that should be acceptable and I consider hijabs decent and allowed in a company's dress code. Sure,if your are working for say the Catholic or a specific religious office (but why would a muslim work for a religious group outside of their Muslim region) then I would guess the employer could have the freedom to ask you to dress a certain way, just as say you go to Saudi Arabia and whether you are Muslim or not they expect women to cover their heads, not drive etc.

When Isam reached those places after 632 AD (after Mohammed's death), a cultural, functional symbol became a part of religious practice. It has nothing to do with modesty. Church services in such schools are part of official school gatherings and requires that all students make themselves available. That's all. In missionary schools moslems are allowed to worship Allah and no one bars anyone to pray or otherwise but certain school norms must be followed. If you can't abide please find your way out

I think compelling them to attend Church service is not right but for the government to say they should allow them to cover their faces in the Christian schools is equally infringement on the rights of those schools,they cannot promote their religion on the campus of other religious institutions.

These schools have uniform codes which they send to various students before they go there which does not include scarfs or whatever to cover their faces so if they don't like the uniform codes in those schools they should choose different schools,we need to respect the religious practice of those schools,they have been practicing these codes forever.

This government should be careful not to impose Muslim religious practice on Christian schools.

What we should remember is that most of our schools were established by missions like Presbyterian, Catholics, Methodist, AME Zion etc and during those days, there was no Muslims school so, what was the options?

If Muslims have come to their senses that that is not good, they should opt for their own school. Was Muntaka ever forced to attend Sunday school during his school days? They are making these allegations just to satisfy their evil master Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is evil and they are spreading their evil agenda through any nation with Muslims population. Soon, we will see a surge in extreme Islamic teaching in Ghana then what? Boko Haram started like that and now imagine what they are doing to Nigerians.

I have nephews who attended Catholic school and were made to attend Catholic church. What about that.
Understand that the land on which the mission schools have been built belong to the churches and will no way allow moslems to worship there or build mosques there. That is a truth. I tolerate religion but it is a truism that the most liberal moslem will not allow Adventists or Catholics to worship on their land or build churches on the lands they have acquired. Omane Boamah should hasten slowly.
Nobody is forcing anybody to attend any particular church but if you go to Rome, you do what Romans do. Government schools can be made non secular but not mission school. Omane, what about if Christians also demonstrate that moslem girls wearing Habib is an infringement on their religious rights. Ask the French if they tolerate that. Omane, in the USA, the owner of a business can prevent moslem women from wearing Habib to work if the one chooses to. The KKK are no longer allowed to wear their hoods. Is this not true. HMMMMMMMM, NDC, hasten slowly or the status quo will be broken and Ghana will be in chaos.

(Okay, so they have not helped the thievery or the corruption in Ghana..oops)... By far these mission schools have led educational excellence in Ghana and the rest of the world. Give me an example of a Moslem university that is a "pillar of educational excellence" in the world today? Have the Moslems not heard of Harvard, Georgetown, Oxfords and so on? Where are their rivals to these schools aside from madrassas where innocent children are brain washed to become radical and violent suicide bombers?

What inventions have come out of the Arab world lately to rival electricity, cars, computers, TVs,Cell phones etc?

If a Moslem Ghanaian wants quality education for their child and choose Christian schools, they MUST obey ALL the rules, the tenets of the school without any favoritism PERIOD!!

There should be no SELECTIVE application of rules in favor of Moslems..... In the good old days I too went to a private prep school with lots of Moslems.... We recited Psalm 23 and the Lord's Prayer everyday, had Bible study thanks to Gideon's International and sang Christian songs during assembly- everyone participated PERIOD... The only time Moslems were given deference were absences during their Moslems holidays and celebrations, which is fine.

When girls from my school started platting their hair and the Headmaster said to cut of our hair, we did it because it was school policy and everyone, both Moslem and Christian girls all cutoff their hair....

Since when did Moslem girls started covering their hair to school in Ghana? NONESENSE!!!

I believe the deep Christian indoctrination in Ghanaian schools have kept Ghanaian Moslems MODERATE in their Islamic practices.
Afterall, who can fight the influence of the HOLY SPIRIT? Once you encounter Him, you can't shake Him off... HE has been the SAVING GRACE of Ghana against Islamic radicalism.

Please don't encourage them to build their own schools either. It is an open door for the likes of oil rich Arab countries to fund Madrassas in Ghana and spread radicalism into peaceful Ghana.....

With Rev. Eastwood Anaba and His Fountain Gate Churches and other foundational churches rooted in the North, and the proliferate amount of churches in the South, East, West, like it or not The Holy Spirit is breathing all over Ghana and radical Islam has NO place in Ghana PERIOD!

That is why teachers sometimes have to accompany students even to hospitals as it was in my case at Okuapemman school.I am a professional teacher and an administrator. At any school gathering of students, there should be teachers present but not pastors or Immams. Should teachers be forced to attend any worship against their will. How many teachers are moslems to supervise students during worship.
I taught at Ghana Secondary School at Tamale in the 80s and moslem students were allowed to observe their religion. However, if you attended St. John Bosco, that was not allowed unless under special conditions. Why can't moslems build their schools so that their children can wear Habib to school. Ask Mormons if they will allow Moslem students to wear habib to school for the sake of toleration. Ask Moslem schools if they will allow Rastafarians to attend their schools in their dreadlocks. My solution is, let moslems build their own schools so their wards can follow Koranic laws.

I know a certain private school where students are forced to learn Roman Catholic recitations and worship like Catholics. The owner of the school intimated she has been doing that to teach pupils good morals. It is considered indiscipline if a pupil refused to participate in school worship.

Religious and moral upbringing is important but the GES must make laws regarding this and enforce the laws. Currently schools are left to choose their own kind of worship. Not only Moslems suffer this infringement on their right. Schools must be affiliated either with charismatic, orthodox Christian worship or Islamic worship which must be publicly known.

Few Islamic schools are in the country where Moslems can always attend but more is needed. It will definitely be a source of indiscipline to permit little school children practice whatever religion they want. Children need direction and conformity when it comes to religious and moral upbringing.

I will not send my child to a chaotic school where everyone does what they want. I will not send my child to boarding school to be exposed to homosexuality.

The Ministry of Education and the GES must work on this now before chaos inspired by religious freedom is visited in our schools.

Like in most developed countries why don't we abolish boarding school system and develop community based schools? My child will only go to boarding in the University and at lower levels he or she will be a day student so l can teach him or her myself.

This religious chaos must be straightened by the Ministry and GES else they are not fit to be in such positions.

Let's have a tolerant system which is our identity. Let's have Islamic schools, Charismatic schools and orthodox Christian schools so people can choose where to educate their children. Freedom of choice in law abiding institutions is the way forward.

Let's perfect our identity of a tolerant nation of freedom of choice, freedom of worship and mutual respect of various faith. We don't need divisions at the higher levels of education like the nursing training, teacher training, universities, polytechnic etc because in such institutions people are old enough to learn to live in peace with themselves and others.

Much as I disagree with the missions in taking back their schools, I also want to stress that those schools have their code of ethics and conducts so that if yours do not mesh with them, it is not wise enrolling in their schools. I know for sure that before a student is admitted to any of the mission schools, that student is given a prospectus and made to sign to conform to the status quo of the school, otherwise that student would not be admitted. My question is why will a Moslem child sign the agreement form and then protest that she is forced to practise Christianity? These dementive politicians are misinterpreting the constitution. I can't join a moslem and refuse to submit myself to the practices. What these people are saying is absolutely nonsensical. It is manifestation of conflict against Moslems and Christians. We live in peace as one people. This issue should not be tolerated. Those schools are not infringing on their rights. You can't be in the army and say your belief doesn't tell you to kill therefore you will not go to war when the need arises. This issue must be addressed with sensible minds

Ghana is a secular nation and condones every religion within de curtains of de constitution. No follower of any religion can act contrary to de laws of de country even if the religion endorses that. The act of infringing peoples' right will be de main cause of violence in the country. Both Muslims and christians have lived peacefully in this country of ours for decades. I advice you should be sincere and objective and put yourself in a Muslims' shoe, would you not be offended if you are coerced to pray in the mosque and pray as Muslim in an Islamic school? I think this whole thing of Hijab being demanded from moslems should be looked critically. In as much as I respect my fellow moslems, I seriously think that their demand is misplaced. In the first place, no one prevents moslem women from wearing their hijab. They have the freedom to wear it to the mosque where they actually are supposed to be worshiping Allah. They can wear it when they move around town such as the market, public programs etc. One thing they should always remember is that, the Christians schools and institutions have their rules and regulations, have their values and purpose of establishing their institutions for that matter no other religion can come and dictate what should be done in their institutions. As far as the constitution talks about freedom of religion and practice, church institutions have the right to operate within their religious beliefs and whoever decides to go to such christian institutions must equally be ready to abide by the tradition there. Otherwise, moslems should send their wards to moslem schools or attend only moslem hospitals so that churches can also do same. Going beyond the moslem demand, are they saying that every religion should be allowed to dress according to their religious dressing code? Then moslem police officers and military officers, nurses and etc be allowed to wear the hijab to work. The fact is that the wearing of hijab has serious security implications. Are they "ninjas' or arm robbers who want to disguise themselves from people? These were some of the tricks some insurgences dress to attack people. This kind of dressing will promote many hard criminals to disguise themselves and cause mayhem to others since they may not be properly identified. Some male moslems can even dress like women in the hijab to throw bomb blast at public places. We must not therefore encourage these in Ghana. That dressing is Arab dressing code. It is not a religious dressing code. We must draw the line between religion and rules and regulations regarding institutional culture and norms. The Govt has erred in issuing out the statement. It is unnecessary and propaganda. Govt always want favour from moslems for voting. Indeed the peace council has come out to state they were going to look at the concerns already. Why will Govt come out with this statement. It is totally wrong and a show of immaturity and lack of understanding of the issues. As a christian, we would not allow moslems to determine how we should run our institutions? Food for thought Thanks
