Has Mahama resigned, yet? Fools who should not be allowed to lead primary school anywhere are now lording it over our people.
Wasn't it obvious that there were too many people that speak for the President before this guy was called to come Ghana. That is willfully causing financial loss. Mahama just decided to give him some money for doing nothing.
And Atuguba took two years sabbatical leave from Legon to work at the government. So he was being paid by the Legon for all these two years and simultaneously collecting money from the taxpayers again at the Presidency.
How can we have money to take care of the people when staff at the Presidency alone consume all our revenue. Have you noticed that these idiots don't even talk about oil anymore...

What does the Mahama NDC gov't means by an Ultra modern Kumasi central market? What comparable ultra modern market in developed countries of the world should Ghanaians compare this Ultra modern Kumasi central market?
We have been in this country when the uncompleted extension of the runway of Kumasi Regional Airport has been described by the Mahama NDC gov't as an ultra modern international airport comparable to any international airport in the US, Germany, France, UK, Holland, China, Hong Kong, etc, etc. So what does the Mahama NDC gov't means by an ultra modern Kumasi central market because Ghanaians have had it with mediocre leadership and propaganda.

Ghanaians must desist from "worshipping" presidents and begin to hold presidents and leaders accountable. Bravo Greenstreet for showing Ghanaians the right way. Why bow to presidents when they are stealing millions of dollars of tax payer's money. The NDC people are enjoying while the people are suffering. Is this the better Ghana agenda. Thank you Greenstreet and more grease. May the Lord protect you.

How many of the people in government hold PhDs? In fact, until Kwabena Donkor's recent appointment as a power minister (barely a month in office), most of the key positions in government were held by recent school leavers and professionals who do not hold PhDs, including engineers, lawyers, medical doctors, accountants, etc.
So why blame the incompetence of these people on PhDs. I see this stupid anti-intellectualism all over the place in Ghana. In fact, the hatred goes beyond PhDs to people who obtained undergraduate degrees with First Class.
Recently, a university student told me she is not working hard toward a First Class because she has been informed that employers don't respect First Class graduates because they're not good on the job. But there are as many high-performing professionals with First Class and 2nd Class degrees as there are of non-performing counterparts.
Funnily, in this same country, many of the people who blame the few PhDs for every problem in the country would gladly pay some unregistered backwater university to award them fake honorary doctorate degrees. Plain stupid envy!
And by the way, PhDs are trained to be thinkers, to provide society with ideas. It's for your so-called practice-based professionals like engineers, lawyers, accountants, etc to utilise these ideas in their practice to solve society's problems. Our failure to see the complementarity between the thinkers and the practitioners is part of our problem as a society.

electron behaviour or PhD in Maths could be solving a particular equation. They are not trained to handle issues of governance of a whole country. Infact they should not indulge in politics because of their narrow minded training. In UK, USA, Germany etc you hardly see PhDs in their government. Bill Gates does not have PhD but has more money than the whole of Ghana. Branson of Virgin fame was a drop out but turned out to be multi millionaire. I can go on and on wjth more examples but I hope see where I am going.
What we need in government are captains of industry with proven pedigree and exemplary track record not inexperience PhDs straight from university . They know NOTHING about government. Why we deify these people I don't know.
And by the way there is no word like complementarity in the English vocabulary. A more appropriate word would have been "synergy"

Nii, you have actually made my case for me.
1. As you correctly put it, PhDs specialise in a narrow area and cannot solve all of society's problems. However, you're wrong to suggest that they bring nothing to government and governance. First, even their narrow specialisations can have policy implications in particular areas. Secondly, as with any other type of education, a PhD training equips one with skills (e.g. analytical or quantitative ability) that can be deployed beyond the narrow focus of the PhD thesis. Both sets of skills can be useful to government.
2. To illustrate the point above: you cite Germany and the UK as examples of countries where you hardly see PhDs in government. But are you aware that Angela Merkel has a PhD in quantum chemistry and was a university lecturer? By your analysis, she should do a poor job as Chancellor of Germany. But she has turned out to be the most competent European leader in recent years. Similarly, are you aware that Gordon Brown, a former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Prime Minister of Great Britain, has not only a PhD but one in history, not on economic or financial history, but on the labour party in Scotland. Yet, Gordon Brown, a former lecturer in politics, is celebrated more for his competence as Chancellor of the Exchequer (finance minister) than as Prime Minister.
3. I often hear this thing about Bill Gates and Branson being school dropouts and yet being rich. Note that being rich is neither everyone's dream nor necessarily a mark of competence, let alone the competence to manage a nation. Like academics, some businessmen may succeed in government while others may be complete failures. Second, Bill Gates, like many other businessmen, made use of already existing knowledge produced by the many years of work done by computer/engineering research scientists.
You see, unlike the anti-intellectualism of many African businessman, these men you talk about HIRE and sponsor PhDs at world class universities. If you haven't bothered yourself to ask why, it is because these PhDs often work behind the scenes to generate the ideas that drive innovation in their businesses. This is what I called the "complementarity" between those who produce ideas and those who practice or make use of those ideas. Our anti-intellectualism is killing the development of this productive relationship.
4. Yes, complementarity is an English word. Drop that old "yam" of a dictionary and look it up in any "hi-tech" (modern) dictionary! You would find that it is a specific term in Physics and a generic term as a description of a relationship that is complementary.
5. By the way, do you think if he grew up in Ghana with a PhD in history, Gordon Brown could ever have been allowed anywhere near the finance ministry? That should tell you something!
Let me reiterate. Our ministries are full of engineers, medical doctors, accountants, lawyers, and other professionals without PhDs. Only few people in government have PhDs. You could basically count them on your finger tips. If Nii's argument is sound, having fewer PhDs and more professionals in government should solve our problems. Is that actually the case? Don't blame PhDs for our woes. Blame our non-productive politics and our non-creative professionals!

You speak and write like a true intellectual. Don't worry about these half-baked people whose educations are stunted and therefore analyse issues like primary school children? They know a little bit of the truth, but they think they know it all. And that is one of our biggest problems in this country. An educational system that is unable to produce critical thinkers. And because of this semi-illiteracy, they hate every true intellectualism. If not, Jerry Rawlings could not have ruled Ghana for almost 20 years. And similarly, the likes of John Mahama and most of his cohorts would not be at the helm of affairs todays. Their mess is there for all objective observers to see. But these are very few. they majority of our people view things from the ethnic perspective. So we genuinely have a huge problem on our hands as a people.

Nothing could have tarnished the image of Ghanaian journalism more than the utter shameful conduct of Ghanaweb, MyJoyOnline, and Starrfm in the absolute LIE they headlined on their websites yesterday, February 4th, about the Chief of Staff to President Mahama, Prosper Bani.
These websites took sleazy tabloid journalism to a whole new low in their publication of an unattributed and unsigned scoop about the alleged dismissal of the Chief of Staff.
Ghanaweb, MyJoyOnline, Starrfm and affiliates took cues from print tabloids that had published the previous day, a sequence of “deep throat” sourced rumours about personnel changes at the Office of the Presidency.
If the above-named sites and their affiliates were ethical and credible news sources, they would have stated clearly that they had wind of impending personnel changes at the flagstaff House but could NOT CONFIRM which persons would be affected by said changes, and left it at that.
But no! The greed to milk a potential politically salacious story as clickbait in order to drive eyeballs and advertising revenue to their sites, was too tempting to resist. So they sold their media souls for pieces of silver and dragged the name of the Chief of Staff undeservedly through the mud.
So when the actual Press Release from the Office of the Presidency was released to the media yesterday evening, what were the FACTS? They were mundane personnel changes. Full Stop.
The release signed by the Chief of Staff simply stated that the former Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Raymond Atuguba who had taken a two-year sabbatical leave from his teaching position at the University of Ghana, had completed the terms of his appointment at Flagstaff House, and thus was returning to his previous post.
The other Presidential staffer, Director of Communications, Mr. Ben Malor, likewise had completed his one-year leave of absence from the United Nations to serve in the Mahama administration, and was now returning to his original post.
Shame on Ghanaweb. Shame on Starrfm. Shame on MyJoyOnline. You have utterly disgraced yourselves among the media fraternity. You have erased the ever shaky line between responsible and yellow journalism. What you have achieved is sow distrust and deepened the cynicism of the public toward the media. You have made all of our jobs harder.
