Where are the authorities that approved the tower? And where is the engineering approval for it to be built. Lastly, who approved it to be build in such close proximity to homes?

Ghana is no stranger to the "animal farm" story where the powerful and the rich easily have their way trampling on the weak and downtrodden.
As long as one has money, what is "respect" from him/her to those around him/her? The person who built this mast was of the opinion that "I have the money to do it so, who the hell can stop me"? And now what?

A preacher, who shall we say was "humor impaired," attended a conference to help encourage and better equip pastors for their ministry.
Among the speakers were many well known and dynamic speakers. One such boldly approached the pulpit and, gathering the entire crowd's attention, said, "The best years of my life were spent in the arms of a woman that wasn't my wife!" The crowd was shocked! He followed up by saying, "And that woman was my mother!" - The crowd burst into laughter and delivered the rest of his talk, which went over quite well.
The next week, the pastor decided he'd give this humor thing a try, and use that joke in his sermon. As he surely approached the pulpit that sunny Sunday, he tried to rehearse the joke in his head. It suddenly seemed a bit foggy to him.
Getting to the microphone he said loudly, "The greatest years of my life were spent in the arms of another woman that was not my wife!" The congregation inhaled half the air in the room. After standing there for almost 10 seconds in the stunned silence, trying to recall the second half of the joke, the pastor finally blurted out, "...and I can't remember who she was!"

If there are zoning laws in the country they are being enforced.
Take the case of the earthquake which occurred in Haiti and Argentina a while back. They all had the same richter scale.
Guess which country suffered massive deaths? Both countries had existing building codes on the books.
Haiti, which either had a lax or no enforcement of the existing statutory regulatory laws suffered massive casualties twenty times that of Argentina which, of course, enforced and complied with it's laws.
Folks it's not the law - it exists, it's the enforcement of the regulatory compliance reqirements that makes the difference between good governance and anarchy.
For starters, and a probable remedy going forward, solve this city's and and all the others' problems by electing it's mayor/MDCE, who will be accountable to the electorate.
Accountability is good governance.

In progressive countries that have the rule of law, eg the US, building projects and structures like this are inspected at different stages by qualified engineers. You cannot proceed to the next stage without passing the current one. Also for a structure like this some kind of liability insurance must be on file to pay for damages etc...just in case. The population of the US is about seven times ours. These countries have paved the way, they have made every mistake you can think and have perfect the dynamics of existence, why are we not taking advantage of what they have learned. I am sure we have the inspection requirements in our laws but in our country it is easy to bribe the inspector to look the other way. As you can see, it does not really pay in the long run. To save money the stupid business people who own it did not ensure the foundation was deep enough. Africans in general do not understand the rule of law that subjects everyone to the same standards.

we the people must be ready to cast aside these ineffective leaders -and this is not a party issue, one party is just as bad as the other. We must start from the ground, find new younger leaders who have lived outside or clearly can articulate what they plan to do in office. Debate their ideas and convince us to elect them. And when in office such people must be held to their promises. I fear that option is too late because of the worm of corruption, incompetence and irresponsibility which has eaten into the body politic. Our options are now limited, but here is one, Throw these governments out and then call on the UK, US, German and Canadian governments to appoint individuals from their countries to form a governing body of people from these countries that we can hire -from chief executive to police sergeant. They must all be Caucasians. Let us stop kidding ourselves, we Africans are NOT endowed with the ability to constitute and run modern governments. If you disagree, just look around black Africa and give me one contrary example. We do not need coups but we Africans need general uprisings like the French Revolution. Until we make that sacrifice we are going nowhere. Our best brains have fled deserted the continent.
