The award is only in his name but the beneficiary is the living not the dead, the person who will receive the award would be a living person but not Komla, they are not going to open his grave and put the award in.
I hope that helps you, some of you are something.

Why not the time he was living? And what did he significantly contribute to Africa and Ghana. Where is the visible, measurable contribution he made to development in Africa and Ghana?

Have we not misplaced our priorities as a nation for giving this guy a state burial? Can someone tell me what he did for his own village? He was just an ordinary guy working and paying his tax and NI contributions for the British and we give him a state burial. Oh Ghana!

What an honour for selfless Komla. This must encourage the youth of today that hardwork pays but it does not always pay in monitary terms. Rest in peace.

How can you honour a dead man? Why didn't you honour him when he was alive doing all the dirty work for you. Fire upon you all

I think the award is worth it but the name is a misnomer. BBC World News Komla Dumor Award. Yet the citation is on African journalism. Please call the award BBC World News Komla Dumor Africa Award.

BBC is to be commended for this initiative. At one stroke Komla is forever remembered for his impact, and opportunities created for those emulating his sterling qualities from Africa.
For me the major take-away from reviews of Komla's life and work is always the fact that it is not the certificate one holds, or the schooling one has had, but what one actually does and achieves wherever one finds himself or herself in life.
May his soul rest in peace.
