Lauretta Vivian Lamptey should take responsibilities for her shortcomings rather blaming Justice Emile Short for commissioning the renovation. The high cost of the renovation and the long delay was caused by the modifications and extension she, Lauretta Lamptey ordered to suit her. Renovation is not the same as modifications and extension, so do not blame him but blame yourself. You brought all these on yourself by your indiscretion and greed.

It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

Ms. Lamptey could have done herself good by refusing to stay in the AU village if she thought it was too expensive and could be a drain on government budget. She could have asked the commission for a modest accommodation to demonstrate her commitment to fight frivolous spending and corruption. Instead, she chose to follow the path of "business as usual", and she didn't care about the toll her extravagance would have on the commission's budget. It's shameful for her to defend her actions when it is clear she lacks good judgment.

Can't we learn some basic procedures from the developed countries like the USA? Here in USA, there are lower hotel rates across the states for Federal Emolyees. They also have a cut off point where hotel rate must not exceed. These are all meant to check scrupulous government expenditures.
