I think it is fair deal. The writer should stop spreading wrong information based on his own perception. In any case you can only get as much as you bring as income/revenue. AFCON is not the same as World Cup, remember.

John, I think the writer is more concern about the lack of communication with the players than the amount. I do agree that GFA should have communicated or discuss this with the players before publishing the cuts.

Obviously John misunderstands the core argument of the writer. And more importantly he's mixing up economic facts with core tenets of democratic and participatory processes. I bet, not many people would question the figures of the sports ministry given the economic realities in Ghana. But facts do not necessarily mean good governance as they do not assuage people's sense of unfair treatment or disrespect when they are literally prohibited from participating in decisions that affects them directly. I said from day 1 when the news broke that the unilateral decision of the authorities is tantamount to treating the players as kids and also the victims of the Brazil incident. Many of these guys are their own men, family men and adults. At least, get their inputs and explain why this is all government can do..not impose some figures and then label them as unpatriotic if they disagree with the amount. And telling them to quit if they dissatisfied is definitely a low blow. Just like some government officials once told Ghanaians to get out if the kitchen is too hot. To be honest, the approach taken by the authorities is disappointing and clear demonstration of their lack of knowledge of good governance. Everybody is trying to show who is the boss. Hope it doesn't blow up in their face.

Well, may be you are right about and the tenets that support it. But the angle the GFA took is also transparency which is part of democracy. If the players think they have a case for earning more than the income they will bring, they are at liberty to disagree and go back home and sleep. There are numerous Ghanaians who earn Ghana more income than they receive in return but they do not make headlines.

I feel it is time to appoint one of the old players as a Minister of Sports. Such a person may understand the players more than someone who is just there because he or she knows someone in the government. Someone who has experienced what it takes to be a player will surely have a better connection with the players. He speaks the same language with the players. Hence, there is that cordial understanding and trust. Above all, this will prevent what is termed ("monkey the work and bamboo they chop" ) in Ghana. It will also prevent " do it as I say or you are out" as being carried out by the so called authority over the National Team. It is just plain wrong to appoint a politician as a Minister of Sports. This modern day politicians are just looking out for themselves and their families. They are there to chop the money fast. And they will take a decision only if it will lead them to hiding some money somewhere to enrich themselves. It is absolutely wrong for the government to appoint a bully as a Minister of Sports. Unfortunately, it takes a great deal of courage to stand up for a bully. And this was the case of those four players who are not allowed to join the Black Stars. And when the new coach who knows better decides to bring these players back to the Black Stars, he is being threaten by another bully. This is just plain sickness. I do blame the current government for having created a special place (Presidential Staff) for all those caught red-handed stealing the money of tax payer. How do you prevent people who are caught stealing not to steal again? Do you send them close to you to work with you or give them a severe punishment?
But the present government will quickly retire you from that position and put you in his newly created "Heaven" known as Presidential Staff. May be the president thinks if one works as a presidential staff, he or she will not steal. It might be the president had forgotten that once a thief would always be a thief.

I certainly agree with you that if the Sports Minister is not aware of what is coming to hurt the country as far as the Black Stars are concerned, then, it could spell doom for Ghana Football once again as did in Brazil. Does the Sports Minister want this to happen again? These players are professionals and they are volunteering themselves for their country Ghana. They need to be compensated well, not 45,000.00. Who would talk to the Sports Minister before he wake up in his collaboration with GFA. One time the Ayariga, the Sport Minister said that the GFA is a private agency. It shows that he has no clue about what is going on in Ghana. He does not know what Quasi organization means. Where did this Ayariga go to school, I asked? The GFA, should have communicated with the players before arbitrarily imposing their will on the players. This is my point.

Malawi players don't get more than $100 for a game...and yet Ghana cannot easily beat them...Burkina Faso players get $500 per game, including when they beat Ghana in the semi finals of the last cup of nations...Uganda drew with Ghana in Kumasi and later beat Ghana in kampala...and Uganda players don't receive more than $500 per game...even Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria and other big football nations don't as much as Ghanaian players demand...frustrating part is that, with all these payments to them, they have not been able to deliver-by winning a cup in many, many years...What annoys me is that the millions of dollars spent on the team can, otherwise, be used to provide thousands and thousands of school chairs for those elementary school kids who sit on stools under trees to study...misplaced priority
