“In the last six years, the NDC has borrowed US$27 billion. Before that, we, the NPP, borrowed a total of US$5.5 billion in eight years. Compare that to the NDC borrowing $27 billion in six years and ask yourself what they have done with all that money,” the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo said.

He said, though a lot more money has been spent, it is a paradox of economic management that this level of excessive spending has only led to greater hardships being visited on the people.

“NDC inherited a public debt stock of GHS9.5 billion in 2009,” the former Deputy Governor of the central bank said. “Today, Ghana’s debt has gone up to GHS65.7 billion. So when I say the stakes are high I am talking about the destiny of our country, Ghana, the future of the youth.”

“The NDC has been taxing everything, including condoms and cutlasses. In terms of resources, this NDC government has had more resources than any other government. We did not have oil. Yet, Ghanaians know what we did with the limited resources we had. We spent money responsibly to create the NHIS, introduce Capitation Grant, expand access to education, we spent wisely on infrastructure and built more roads than any other government,” he said.

I do not subscribe the assertion that distribution of land is the hindrance to Real estate ownership. My back ground is Building Architecture, Real Estate Development and Land Acquisition and Distribution.
We have never had any government that focus on the dream for the ordinary worker to own a home besides Busia's Progress Party government who had a plan to home ownership by the ordinary worker. There were developments of affordable estates in small towns across the country. When Busia's government was overthrown, continuation of such affordable estates sunk.
Kuffuo's government started what was called affordable housing which in realistic were affordable and available only to his government officials and Party cronies.
Interest rates in Ghana is over 23%. I do not for see any government who could make home's affordable to the ordinary worker with such unfriendly interest rate.
Owning a home in Ghana by the ordinary worker could be achieved only by a government with a good foresight to establish a friendly interest rates up to 10%. Then Commercial Banks could get into building condominium houses and sell to the ordinary worker. But to make such a success, I must repeat, interest rates must be friendly below 10%.
I do not foresee any government out there who have such a vision.

Shelter is the number 1 priority of every individual and it's an eyesore, a disgrace to Ghanaian govt to purposely neglect this. Even western countries dedicate a portion of their budgets to affordable housing projects. How much more a developing nation like Ghana. With a dire need? The National budget must have allocations for regional affordable housing complexes.

RUBY MAHAMA NAILED AT HEATHROW AIRPORT WITH 12.5 KILOS OF COCAINE

London’s Heathrow Grabs Africa’s
Narcotic Cleopatra

It was a fairytale life for the 32 year
old. A high flying life with deep political
connections across a sub-region of over
260 million people – frequent flights in
not only the first class sections of some
of the World’s leading airlines, but
Bombadier Private Jets reportedly
belonging to one of West Africa’s
richest men and the brother of the
current Ghanaian President and
Chairman of the Regional Political
Union. Sleeping in the choicest hotels
around the world came only as an aside.
But this life at 15,000ft, for someone
born and bred in a country with per
capita just over a $1,000, came crushing
down on the Morning of November 10
when Border Security at London’s
Heathrow crashed the operation of the
lady who has been described and
nicknamed by some within the
Intelligence Community as “Africa’s
drug Cleopatra”, having used her
extensive political and social networks to
courier an estimated $75 million of
cocaine directly in just the past three
years.
It all ended for the modern “cleopatra”,
originally born Ruby Adu-Gyamfi when
a trip planned to be like the many she
has undertaken to over 28 countries in 5
continents turned out to be the opposite
as a result of collaborative work
between intelligence agencies in four
continents but interestingly without the
knowledge of any of her native Ghana
or Africa’s security units due to a
strong suspicion of complicity at the
highest level of Ghana’s political system.
With the world’s best intelligence and
security agencies behind her track, it
was supposed to only be a matter of
small time before this drug baroness was
nailed. However, numerous aliases, dozens
of passports bearing different names
and pictures – including those from
Austria, Canada, Brazil and Belarus and
several Ghanaian and Nigerian
passports – including a Ghanaian
diplomatic passport, allowed her rare
privileges both within the country and
outside. As though this was not enough,
cosmetic surgeries, aided by plastic
surgeons, and the sheer brazenness of
her operations plus the well documented
help of officialdom in her native Ghana
had succeeded in aiding her to escape
arrest for over 24 months.
When security officials finally closed in
on her, not even the power of the
Ghanaian Presidency or the brandishing
of a diplomatic passport could save her.
In her possession was as much as 12
kilograms of cocaine valued
conservatively at $5 million. So
unbothered was her operation that
unlike many others who conceal their
consignment in several ingenious ways,
‘Cleopatra’ carried her full consignment
in her hand luggage, having used the
VVIP Presidential lounge at Ghana’s
Kotoka International Airport, according
to local reports and signals picked from
Scotland Yard, one of the agencies that
worked on her capture.
Intelligence officers indicate that Ruby
managed to get her consignment safely
into the first class section of the
particular British Airways flight using
her connections in the Ghanaian
establishment, who managed to even get
a security official to safely courier her
consignment into the plane. Sources
close to the operation that nailed her
say that Ruby was spotted by other
first class passengers trying to fit 2kg
of her consignment into her hand bag.
These passengers alerted the British
Airways staff while the plane was
approaching London with the staff in
turn radioing Heathrow to be on alert.
On arrival at Heathrow, border security
officials, who had ordered only the first
class passengers to disembark, quickly
asked her to step aside to be searched.
This request is said to have infuriated
Ruby, who questioned the security
officials, pulling out her Ghanaian
diplomatic passport in the process. This
diplomatic passport with the name Ruby
Mahama did little to convince Border
Security who proceeded to carry out the
search.
So excited were the global intelligence
agency when she was finally captured
that three top officials of the Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) of
the United States quickly jetted off to
London, within 4 hours of her arrest, to
interrogate her on various matters of
concern to American officials in their
unending war on narcotics.
Norman Shanks, an Aviation Security
expert who spoke to Airport
International was puzzled that the
major achievement chalked by Heathrow
in capturing this long sought after Drug
Empress did not make it into headlines
of the mainstream British and
International Press, but was also of the
view that it did not make it into the
major headlines because the top
international agencies that worked on it
wanted to keep a lid on her arrest for
various reasons.
“This for me seems to be the biggest
victory in many months for the global
drug war. Arresting this lady was
important to stop a large part of the
volumes of narcotics we have seen
pouring into Europe and North America
in the past few years. Again, this was
one of the most difficult operations in
recent years because with her very close
connections and helpers in the Ghana
government, it was almost impossible to
expect any local help to close in on her.
All the work therefore was completely
done by agents of foreign agencies and
mostly from foreign bases and in such a
situation, you can only depend on luck”,
Shanks said, from his Coventry base.
Before her arrest, Ruby, who also goes
by the name “Angel” had been spotted,
according to intelligence sources in
Nigeria, during the inauguration of a
multimillion dollar Stadium in a country
where over 70% of the population still to
find, let alone live on a dollar a day. Her
mission there, according to the reports,
was to help entertain the top political
elite across West Africa, including the
Presidents of the three big West
African Nations – Nigeria, Ghana and
Cote d’ivoire, who descended on Akwa
Ibom, one of the many states in Nigeria
whose Governor put up the Stadium as a
legacy project.
For now, Ruby Angel or Cleopatra as she
was appropriately christened will no
longer be travelling with Presidents or
entertaining them. She will not also
enjoy the luxury of her villas in Accra’s
most expensive suburbs including her
main mansion at Trassaco Valley, which
is the city’s Beverley Hills with multi-
million mansions belonging to Ghana’s
political class and business elite as well as
some of Nigeria’s richest. Her properties
in Cantonments and East Legon, which
are also extremely expensive suburbs in
Ghana’s capital with land going for as
much as a million dollars, will certainly
also miss her.

Ghana is a nation that lost its potential in 1966.Since then our leaders, both political and educated elite class, tend to ingratiate themselves and or take credit for worthless events in Ghana that only politicians and educated class with self doubt can entertain.
For over 20years our leaders, both military and civilian, have sat idly by while property owners have stifled real growth and development because of this silliness we call "goodwill" and no one saw the harm. How would a recent graduate from a technical, college or university who just scored a decent job afford to pay a 2year rental fee in advance when a month's paycheck is yet to be earned? To rob salt in the wounds inflicted upon renters by property owners is the high probability that most rental units lack self contained restrooms and kitchen.
it is a shame that Ghana's youth will continue to endure probably more so with children of middle class and lower class who tend to suffer at the hands of the NPP money hungry class who never really understood the real effects of their property owning society craps they spread. Development of a nation is measured through the availability of homes with indoor plumbing facilities and affordability and not through a freedom to enslave.

Its only in Ghana that someone will build a house with a kitchen, sitting room and bedrooms and expect the govt to build a toilet for him. The first shock for foreigners (including other Africans) in Ghana is number of people who still use public toilets. Why will you have a bedroom and kitchen but no toilet? I think its illiteracy because Ghana is the only country someone will finish JHS and believe he's done with education when a master's degree is becoming the minimum in Nigeria. No wonder a typical Ghanaian on the street cannot speak English and the GH entertainment industry cannot grow outside Ghana. They've flooded Multi TV with Two channels. How can those of us watching outside Ghana enjoy? That's why Nigeria is always ahead.

It is sad to read that for the first time in news about house shortage in Ghana ,although it is well know to every one in the country.NDC calls herself a democratic party,what do they understand from democracy?,also they say their for working class,but how? what are they doing for the low class?,when this class does not profit from the gains in the countrys resources.We need in Ghana Social house(affordable rental houses)for Middle and Low income group.This should come from both pulblic and private sector ,and must be as early sa possible in other to avoid violent in the coutry,it is only the question of times.

London’s Heathrow Grabs Africa’s
Narcotic Cleopatra

It was a fairytale life for the 32 year
old. A high flying life with deep political
connections across a sub-region of over
260 million people – frequent flights in
not only the first class sections of some
of the World’s leading airlines, but
Bombadier Private Jets reportedly
belonging to one of West Africa’s
richest men and the brother of the
current Ghanaian President and
Chairman of the Regional Political
Union. Sleeping in the choicest hotels
around the world came only as an aside.
But this life at 15,000ft, for someone
born and bred in a country with per
capita just over a $1,000, came crushing
down on the Morning of November 10
when Border Security at London’s
Heathrow crashed the operation of the
lady who has been described and
nicknamed by some within the
Intelligence Community as “Africa’s
drug Cleopatra”, having used her
extensive political and social networks to
courier an estimated $75 million of
cocaine directly in just the past three
years.
It all ended for the modern “cleopatra”,
originally born Ruby Adu-Gyamfi when
a trip planned to be like the many she
has undertaken to over 28 countries in 5
continents turned out to be the opposite
as a result of collaborative work
between intelligence agencies in four
continents but interestingly without the
knowledge of any of her native Ghana
or Africa’s security units due to a
strong suspicion of complicity at the
highest level of Ghana’s political system.
With the world’s best intelligence and
security agencies behind her track, it
was supposed to only be a matter of
small time before this drug baroness was
nailed. However, numerous aliases, dozens
of passports bearing different names
and pictures – including those from
Austria, Canada, Brazil and Belarus and
several Ghanaian and Nigerian
passports – including a Ghanaian
diplomatic passport, allowed her rare
privileges both within the country and
outside. As though this was not enough,
cosmetic surgeries, aided by plastic
surgeons, and the sheer brazenness of
her operations plus the well documented
help of officialdom in her native Ghana
had succeeded in aiding her to escape
arrest for over 24 months.
When security officials finally closed in
on her, not even the power of the
Ghanaian Presidency or the brandishing
of a diplomatic passport could save her.
In her possession was as much as 12
kilograms of cocaine valued
conservatively at $5 million. So
unbothered was her operation that
unlike many others who conceal their
consignment in several ingenious ways,
‘Cleopatra’ carried her full consignment
in her hand luggage, having used the
VVIP Presidential lounge at Ghana’s
Kotoka International Airport, according
to local reports and signals picked from
Scotland Yard, one of the agencies that
worked on her capture.
Intelligence officers indicate that Ruby
managed to get her consignment safely
into the first class section of the
particular British Airways flight using
her connections in the Ghanaian
establishment, who managed to even get
a security official to safely courier her
consignment into the plane. Sources
close to the operation that nailed her
say that Ruby was spotted by other
first class passengers trying to fit 2kg
of her consignment into her hand bag.
These passengers alerted the British
Airways staff while the plane was
approaching London with the staff in
turn radioing Heathrow to be on alert.
On arrival at Heathrow, border security
officials, who had ordered only the first
class passengers to disembark, quickly
asked her to step aside to be searched.
This request is said to have infuriated
Ruby, who questioned the security
officials, pulling out her Ghanaian
diplomatic passport in the process. This
diplomatic passport with the name Ruby
Mahama did little to convince Border
Security who proceeded to carry out the
search.
So excited were the global intelligence
agency when she was finally captured
that three top officials of the Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA) of
the United States quickly jetted off to
London, within 4 hours of her arrest, to
interrogate her on various matters of
concern to American officials in their
unending war on narcotics.
Norman Shanks, an Aviation Security
expert who spoke to Airport
International was puzzled that the
major achievement chalked by Heathrow
in capturing this long sought after Drug
Empress did not make it into headlines
of the mainstream British and
International Press, but was also of the
view that it did not make it into the
major headlines because the top
international agencies that worked on it
wanted to keep a lid on her arrest for
various reasons.
“This for me seems to be the biggest
victory in many months for the global
drug war. Arresting this lady was
important to stop a large part of the
volumes of narcotics we have seen
pouring into Europe and North America
in the past few years. Again, this was
one of the most difficult operations in
recent years because with her very close
connections and helpers in the Ghana
government, it was almost impossible to
expect any local help to close in on her.
All the work therefore was completely
done by agents of foreign agencies and
mostly from foreign bases and in such a
situation, you can only depend on luck”,
Shanks said, from his Coventry base.
Before her arrest, Ruby, who also goes
by the name “Angel” had been spotted,
according to intelligence sources in
Nigeria, during the inauguration of a
multimillion dollar Stadium in a country
where over 70% of the population still to
find, let alone live on a dollar a day. Her
mission there, according to the reports,
was to help entertain the top political
elite across West Africa, including the
Presidents of the three big West
African Nations – Nigeria, Ghana and
Cote d’ivoire, who descended on Akwa
Ibom, one of the many states in Nigeria
whose Governor put up the Stadium as a
legacy project.
For now, Ruby Angel or Cleopatra as she
was appropriately christened will no
longer be travelling with Presidents or
entertaining them. She will not also
enjoy the luxury of her villas in Accra’s
most expensive suburbs including her
main mansion at Trassaco Valley, which
is the city’s Beverley Hills with multi-
million mansions belonging to Ghana’s
political class and business elite as well as
some of Nigeria’s richest. Her properties
in Cantonments and East Legon, which
are also extremely expensive suburbs in
Ghana’s capital with land going for as
much as a million dollars, will certainly
also miss her.

It may be in Ho, Kumasi, Cape Coast Adankwaame, Kumawu, etc. If people move to Accra or Kumasi for a job and place to live it doesn't necessarily mean they have no place to house. Urbanization of the population is bad for the economy. In 100 years time if nothing is done all the population will be drifted to few urban areas and all the problem will start to get even WORSE - shortage of water, electricity and sanitary problems

even marriage nowadays are very expensive.

He is now building a hotel and golf course in a country in Central America. So apply such to GH-Americans, how much could you do in Ghana if you gained such an opportunity?
