DR. BAWUMIA:-----------
“In the last six years, the NDC has borrowed US$27 billion. Before that, we, the NPP, borrowed a total of US$5.5 billion in eight years. Compare that to the NDC borrowing $27 billion in six years and ask yourself what they have done with all that money,” the running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo said.
He said, though a lot more money has been spent, it is a paradox of economic management that this level of excessive spending has only led to greater hardships being visited on the people.
“NDC inherited a public debt stock of GHS9.5 billion in 2009,” the former Deputy Governor of the central bank said. “Today, Ghana’s debt has gone up to GHS65.7 billion. So when I say the stakes are high I am talking about the destiny of our country, Ghana, the future of the youth.”
“The NDC has been taxing everything, including condoms and cutlasses. In terms of resources, this NDC government has had more resources than any other government. We did not have oil. Yet, Ghanaians know what we did with the limited resources we had. We spent money responsibly to create the NHIS, introduce Capitation Grant, expand access to education, we spent wisely on infrastructure and built more roads than any other government,” he said.

Busia could have been a leader for any country in this world. That's not mine; that was what the world said about him when he died prematurely.
The man was a respectable, knowledgeable and God fearing leader that had a complete program for all aspects our national development. Unfortunately, the ignorant communist Young Pioneers implanted by Nkrumah in our midst did not allow Ghanaians to benefit from his knowledge and the good work he had started for the sake of this country and its people. They hijacked and impeded our development until the year 2001.
Although Acheampong was a neo-communist Nkrumahist that carried out the dirty work of overthrowing Prof. Busia unjustifiably, and was supported and blessed by all Nkrumahists who also became pillars of his so-called NRC regime, they later on tried to disown him in order to hide their involvement in the destruction of this country and its economy.
Finally, he was killed by another dictator that also seized power and unleashed a Cuban-style communist dictatorship on Ghanaians.

Busia's rural development and industrialization would have solved many of the problems we have now. Our cities are now clogged. Yes, everybody is now moving to the cities because there are no jobs in the rural areas. Our roads are in a mess. Some still do not understand why he booted some immigrants who were messing our economy up. I am glad he did that.

Tony, common sense is not common and you seem to not even want to try to understand the situation and gravity of the problem. If you have bothered to read the reports which Kwesi Botchway initiated to get IMF so that ghana could receive some interest free loans, you will see that IMF went through Ghana's account books. It did not add up. Has Bawumia done wrong by saying that over and over again?
They found arrears of 1.2 percent for next years GDP.
They saw that the cash deficit will be equivalent to 6.5 percent of GDP in 2015.
They told Ghana that to qualify for the IMF funds, they need to implement reforms so that the fiscal deficit will be 3.5 percent of GDP by 2017.
In simple terms, this means more higher inflation and more taxes which will affect you.
The petrol tax was set by Seth at 17.5%.
The cedi has fallen by more than 30% against the dollar.
The economic growth is targeted at 3.9% NOT 6.9% for next year which has not started yet.
Terkper has to bring inflation down from 17% to 11.5%.
Bawumia is a professional banker and has never shielded away at disputing the figures. Everything he said shows that the chickens have come home to roost.
Do you understand any of this or are you still wondering why Wile-E-Coyote is still trying to catch the road-runner ?

Nothing? Nothing to the economy?? For goodness sake,.. It's like talking to a very thick plank. Of course its not all about the qualifications but that was to show you that your previous statement on sex and his failed O levels was crap because he still pursued further education. Then you went all sanctimonious and started quoting scripture like a man of God. Now the chicken has come home to roost. He was the lead, and with the team that worked to take Ghana out of HIPC, to reduce inflation from NDC's 40% to 10%, Opened up the market to Ghana with a cool 750 million and yes, worked to get the re-denomination which everyone enjoyed because it placed the country on a footing to promote new standards in banking, cards, trade and so on. That's the groundwork and foundation. But now you're moaning about imports, exports and a failed O level? Today Today, the Mahama Politicians are all drug Barons? What have they achieved with what the previous team put in place? So So paaa paaa like vuvuzela.
I give up. You say what you like.

It is an undeniable fact that ECG has been inefficient over the years. So it is with many other public organizations. The level of service being offered by the ECG has been poor but every time they come up with increase in tariffs. This has also been supported by the government at all times to the dislike of the consuming public. Government has also not been up and doing with its obligations to the government so it is very difficult to really appreciate where exactly the problem is coming from.
In spite of the inefficiency of the company selling it should be the last option for government to do. I can confirm that any investor who buys the company will not allow the inefficiency to continue to run down whatever investment made. There will be efforts to turn around the company. So why cant government also adopt measures to make the company becomes efficient. Because government itself is inefficient, it does not know what to do but to sell to take the money.
Technology can be used to introduce efficiency into the operation of the company. This approach has been adopted by companies which has worked well. Government is always talking about PPP; is this not a feasible approach to apply in the operation of the company? Or we are only interested in high value projects like the construction of railways which will offer the opportunity to our cronies and ourselves to make lots of money? Where is the patriotism we are rhetorical about?
GHANA is bigger than the NDC and the NPP. This is what the youth of NIMA are telling GHNANA and this must be embraced by the whole country. Our fore-bearers had very great vision about this country but we have destroyed that laudable vision upon which the country was founded. It is time we retrace our right path now. Time is very important and we cannot afford to allow this opportunity to slip through our fingers.

If you put up your version of figures you give people the chance to compare the 2 figures. Bawumia simply does not understand the issues. Why he keep on saying oil economy and none oil economy always surprised me. Once the oil is integrated into the country products it forms part of our GDP. What is important now is to see how much growth it can add in subsequent years. But to presents it as if every year new oil comes on stream as we witness in 2010 fiscal years shows how much this Bawumia guy understand the issue. Thanks Doc for this dispassionate discussion of the subject of growth. The issue is not about the accuracy of the 2014 growth rate. It is about the hype about a bright future when abysmally low growth rate is being projected. Am worried that such a growth rate will not enable us sustain our middle income status and progress to upper middle income. It will be a disaster to revert to the Low Income category because we are using tax to stifle growth.
I would have been happier of you ended your presentation with suggested solutions. The NPP needs to inherit a healthy economy and running the country down all the time will not help.

The figures just do not make any sense. Indeed, they are all over the place, jumping around all over the place without any meaning and further marring the economy and the finances of the country, in that perpetual state of contraction, for the past few years that, the Mahama-led NDC gov't has been in power.
The sheer unrepentant level of humongous thievery and looting, coupled with the stupendous incompetence of the Mahama NDC gov't, and an embarrassing propensity for fiddling, cooking and massaging the figures, has sent Ghana on the fast-track development process into the doldrums. The Mahama NDC gov't has put the country's progress in reverse, and pressed very hard on the accelerator, thereby hastening Ghana's descent into the abyss, at the speed of light.
The figures lack coherence, just as the Mahama NDC gov't's purported policies and programs lack any semblance of coherence, and manifestly, Ghana is a goner for it. The NDC gov't cannot do it, and need to go, fact.
