Look, even though there is no place like home, it is still better outside. I live outside in Europe and was here for 25 years, then decided to come home for good and what did I find out in the 5 years that I was in Ghana? There was so much corruption that I just could not stay any longer but to return to live in Europe. And in the place where I live, I see and find zero corruption. Brigadier, you should be retired by now to enable the young ones under 60 years take up the position you are occupying. There are young graduates waiting for people like you to leave the system to enable them come in.

No he doesn't need to retire, I disagree with you. It is the responsibility of government through good governance to provide the framework for human development and fulfilment. People should have the freedom to choose what they want to do in life. Regardless of who they are and where they come from, good and visionary leaders and governments should provide the structures and opportunities for their citizens to develop and deploy their skills and talents. Such phenomena not only redound fulfillment, the relevant nations develop significantly. So in Europe where you are, nothing is a barrier. Provisions such as education, apprenticeship, career services, social welfare, etc are in place to facilitate freedom and development which subsequently contribute to a nation's overall development. Besides, Laws that avail for protection in areas like age discrimination, Equality Act,etc will bite if protective characteristics are infringed upon. A gentleman who had no O'level came to Europe, had visible barriers and age was certainly one of them. But now, he has a masters degree working and earning a decent salary with the UK NHS. An Ivorian who came to UK could hardly speak English; in fact age was also a barrier in this guy's case as well. He is now a barrister and studied for his masters as well. These are people I know personally. Please let us avoid limiting people. God bless.

I live and work in the United States of America and, heck, I don't REGRET IT, although it wasn’t smooth sailing from the beginning. I went to school and got 4 university degrees—with which I’ve had a good job to take good care of myself, my wife and children, have invested in Ghana and take care of many family members and some friends. I really don't know how my life would have been if I had not traveled abroad—could it have been better in Ghana than the USA or what?—II doubt it, though one can’t prove a negative!!

However, not everybody who left Ghana, or for that matter Africa, is doing well abroad. Many are suffering like in hell, because of lack of resident & work permits, coupled with lack of good education or some skills. They get some jobs to do, but these jobs are at the bottom of the scale such as; cleaning offices, attending to sick people, construction jobs, working at funeral homes, cleaning the teeth of horses (yes, that too) and all kinds of menial jobs, even though the average hourly minimum wage in America is around $8.50. Not bad at all.

Reality is that, EVEN THOSE MENIAL JOBS COULDN'T BE FOUND IN Lalasulala GHANA. And, for starters, migrants from whichever country always have the DIRE DETERMINATION to SUCCEED and not be FAILURES and that's why they take those odd jobs to sustain themselves and their families abroad and in Ghana.

But, by being 50% right I mean NOWHERE on Earth is KOOL; Ghana or Europe or America or Canada, etc. Those who are actually living large and comfortably in Ghana are the corrupt Politicians, good Business people, Doctors, Lawyers, and some other government officials who are stealing the nation blind.

Therefore, home (Ghana) could be OK, but Europe and other countries could be better for many people. Here in the U.S., many Africans have succeeded beyond the expectations of many: In Medicine, Law, Finance & Accounting, Housing (Realtors), Science, Education (university lecturers), in Business, etc., etc., where the financial rewards couldn't be closely matched in Ghana.

(1) So, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah, what about the battalion of Ghanaian football players also playing abroad and making good money? Would you advise them to return to Ghana to play and make millions of dollars annually as abroad or what? Ghanaians abroad have actually HELPED the nation financially, Negro.

(2) WHY are our politicians and other officials "PREFERING" European furniture, clothes, cars (vehicles), electronics, even drinks & food items to those PRODUCED in Ghana and Africa, except akrantie meat?

SIMPLY PUT: Made in Europe, America, etc., are always deemed better than made at home and that's what our FAKE and INSECURE leaders have been peddling since Independence. Europe, America, Canada, etc., are good for some folks, but Hell for others—depending on circumstances—but worse, there aren’t any jobs for them in Ghana for these burger wannabes!!.

Sometimes I think he lives in a bubble or cloud cuckooland which is a total disconnect to what is happening on the ground. I have a sneaky feeling he is not addressing the educated class in Ghana; he is addressing the ignorant uneducated fool soldiers that they have fooled all these years.

A Ghanaian skilled professional does not need advice from this illiterate ex soldier about leaving Ghana. In Europe alone there are 2000 Ghanaian doctors. Today the local doctors are threatening to down their skills and tools to leave Ghana by 2015 or leadve public service and go into private practice.

This is the same Atta Mills government that admonished Ghanaian professionals in Europe and America to come home to help the motherland. Which doctor working in Europe comfortably earning £120,000 a year is going to pack his bags and come to Ghana to work under these idiots of a planning looting and sharing brigade that does not give a damn about Ghanaians; instead filling their pockets with the bounties of woyome, isofoton, gyeeda, subah, sadah, cp partners, merchant bank fortiz and on top of it steal workers' pension funds?

A study of all the developed countries from which our various government rush to for loans will tell that they had at one point or the other had their citizenry travelled abroad, gain knowledge and come back to help in their development.
The question is what made Nunoo stayed in Europe for 12 years? More so if you have a particular government PNDC\NDC being in power for more than half of the birth of Ghana, then he should know where the fault is, his party.
So I would admonish him to stop his unfortunate comment and allow young men to decide for themselves. Is he aware that remittance from abroad is more than the contribution of cocoa and oil to Ghanaian's economy?

Instead of blaming the poor innocent Ghanaian who has been deprived of any chance of success through bad governance,why not take responsibility of the so called brain drain you complain about?
Nobody leaving Ghana thinks streets of Europe or anywhere else,are painted with gold.Infact they're aware of the dangers,hardships,risks etc,etc ahead but what hope and choice do they have living in their country of birth where a decent meal and other basic things in life are lacking or hard to come by?

When our leaders are educating their children overseas? when our leaders seek medical attention abroad? When our doctors and teachers are on strike? when there is no employment for the youth? when our budget largely depends on what we can get from donor countries? when our relatives who live abroad are bread winners?

What Mr. Mensah must do is to tell his corrupt friends to stop looting the country and make the interest of the ordinary Ghanaian the central focus in everything they do.

When Ghana is able to create descent jobs for her citizens, provides good health care, quality education, good roads, safe drinking water to her citizens, Mr. Mensah will have no need to advise the youth to stay home - they will make that decision themselves.

For now, please allow the youth to do whatever they need to do to survive as long as in doing so, they don't break any law local or foreign.

Politicians elsewhere have no need advising their citizens to stay home.
