If the voice of the majority is the decisive factor in a democratic dispensation ,why all the cacophony about winner-takes-all scenarios?
If elections are not rigged and a party has the majority votes,it is nothing but the wishes and aspirations of the voters.
As i commented on this issue a couple of months back, the system is not the problem. It is the people who use the system who are the problem.
The same system has been used from time immemorial by many countries to give hope, opportunities and prosperity to their citizens.
For instance, the 1992 Constitution enjoins the president to seek the welfare of every Ghanaian. And my understanding of EVERY Ghanaian is that no matter your affiliations,so long as you are a Ghanaian either by birth or naturalization, the president must seek your welfare. But John Mahama's political appointments are going to his tribesmen, family members, friends, children of NDC bigwigs, even when it is crystal clear that they are square pegs in round holes,to the detriment of other Ghanaians. This practice is clearly a breach of that clause.
If John Mahama abides by that provision, then it will not matter that the NDC is in the majority.
Again, i have a faint memory of a clause which also enjoins the president to complete leftover projects from the previous government.
But the order of the day is to abandon with impunity the leftovers to decay, and start new projects with more loans when the cost of the decaying projects have not been recovered by the country, so the current president can put his name out and claim credit for it.So infantile and narrow minded!
The framers most likely burned their candles at both ends and some midnight oil to give us the constitution. But nobody seems to play the role of a watchdog and ensure that there is no breach. I do not share Ken's anxiety about the winner-takes-all system. We can put leashes on the necks of the president and the majority party in the constitution and put an end to it.We just have to be vigilant and safeguard the leashes so the president and the winner-takes-all party do not get away with it without consequences.

If the government dont it all others will suffer. Ghana needs good public administration accountable to ghanaians. It the public administrators who are corrupt, using politicians as cover ups.
Until we have good public accountabilty forget it, Winner takes all is the answer. If politicians can inflate prices on goods and services without a word of warning from the public administrators.
Ghana has oil inland, but drillings companies dont like land drilling. They can steal at sea not inland.
Public adm i good order will stop all the corruption. Every ghana should live within their means. There is not like free money. You dont want to be call a thief yet you sell by getting stolen money from a thief.
I am happy NPP is talking about taking it all. NPP should know about all govt contracts now before taking power. NPP will not the good contracts by NDC, but will stop ever useless contract NOW before taking govt.
With a good government its duty is to take it all. Everybody should be involve. NPP will be the saver to ghanaians.
John Mahama has forgotten he is ghana govt. ECOWAS has nothing better for ghana, why waste ghana money and name signing agreements without the parliament knowing.
