It would appear that those in control of the NDC, for the time being, were bent on excluding other bona fide members of the Party who may wish to lay democratic claims to who becomes the next flag bearer of the Party by excluding them even before the mortal remains of the demised President were interred. It is also symptomatic of how political party elites in Ghana and Africa worm their way into the confidences of persons perceived as likely to ascend to power positions for purposes of eventual personal economic gain at the expense of the generality of the mass of Party members and the Nation which every President swears to serve under the Constitution

I agree with Justice Emile Short that the language used by GBA was inappropriate but at the same time, it is true that Afari Gyan's credibility was dented and the image of the Electoral Commission tarnished by what was revealed at the SC Presidential Petition hearing. If Afari Gyan could not define over-voting then why is he the Electoral Commissioner?
The GBA erred to have suggested the appointment of a new EC in advance when the existing one retires in 2015. That is against the constitution and it's sad that those who should be defending the constitution sought to undermine it. I hope they have learnt a lesson from this misguided and uncalled action.

We can have democracy without partisanship. Parliamentary democracy with no parties. Let each community choose it's rep. Let each district vote its MP -period. That is African. Every abusua chooses its leader who represents the family at the Chief's court or village council. The party is a foreign element. Let's find the balls to abolish it.

This is a novelty but great idea that needs to be explored and adopted. We're sick and tired of the lame duck parliament that gets nothing good done because of obstructionism or gets all the bad things done because of extreme partisanship. It happens not just here in Ghana but in the most unlikely of all places, the United States and in some of the so-called advanced democracies. The do-nothing and obstructionist US Congress got nothing much done from 2008 because the Republican Congressmen wanted to hurt the President much more than they wanted to help the nation and got the lowest approval rating from the people. We need to evolve a better system devoid of the acrimony associated with partisan politics here in our backyard that will accelerate development in our urban and sub-urban communities. It will take a long gestation period because of the dragging of feet but it's not an impossibility. Change is usually slow and gradual but where there's a will there's a way. Great idea, bro.

Pause and reflect on what influence your decision on who you vote for. If your decision is influenced by the APPEARANCE of a candidate and not his/her COMPETENCE, you are a FOOLISH VOTER. If you are someone who is fond of exchanging your VOTE for a GIFT, you are a FOOLISH VOTER. If you don't care about who you vote for, all that matters is that he belongs to the party you like, you are also a FOOLISH VOTER. Finally, if your vote is influence by TRIBAL AFFILIATION, you are a VERY FOOLISH VOTER. Remember, your action affects all of us. THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE.

THE COMMISSION WAS ESTABLISHED TO EMPLOY THE BEST QUALIFIED PERSON(S), IN ALL FIELDS, TO FILL VACANCIES IN ALL THE PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS IN GHANA.
IT IS SOME POLITICIANS AND MILITARY ADVENTURERS, AFTER INDEPENDENCE, WHO BENT THE GUIDE LINES TO SUIT THEIR WHIMS AND CAPRICES.
THE EARLIER WE REVERT TO THE ORIGINAL REASON FOR ESTABLISHING THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION THE BETTER IT WILL BE FOR THE NATION.

One suggestion that will help the police rid itself of political interference is to remove the power to promote senior officers from the control of politicians.
In this regard, parliament should enact a law to this effect.

Dr. K. Jonah have said it all. I had this experience of police partisanship and tribalism way back in 1992 on a visit to Ghana after a long stay in the states. At Osu police station I was labelled as a Kukruduian, in other words someone who belongs to the NPP fraternity even though at that time I did not have a clue what NPP or Kukrudu was all about by these dishveled "Apeteshie" drunkards Ewes constables with their kids walking naked around the compound with their uncircumcised penis on display to the general public. My mission to the police station had nothing to being labelled as an NPP fanatic by these tribalistic miscreants, but just because I am an Akan speaking Ghanaian.
