KWAKU, striking workers have no right to demand pay. Even in the rich developed countries striking workers do not get paid by the employer for the period of the strike. Until government passes legislation to stop paying striking workers, organised labour will always resort to strikes and hold the nation to ransom instead of using the negotiation table.
What encourages strikes in the public sector is that whilst they are on strike, doctors, nurses and lecturers/teachers work in private hospitals and colleges/schools to earn money. So they gain double by going on strikes and that is why strikes by these professionals are often and last longer.

As democratic as the US is, this government strike would not see the light of day there. First of all it is unconstitutional for federal employees to go on strike so the courts would shut it down quickly. In any case if Mahama approved of flying a plane to Brazil with $$$$ to pay already rich football players then you know he won't be able to freeze paychecks. It has all become political decisions instead of what is right for the country. In any case if you live a lawless, corrupt country, this is what you get, no one trusts the government so use strikes to get their demands.

These words definitely did no come from his mouth for they stink! These are our law makers. Many of them are there for personal gains. They are blockheaded and ride on the back of political affiliation to amass wealth at the detriment of the populace. You sit in the parliament and all you do is collecting bribes to vote in a particular policy direction. Even Chinese were able to bribe you with phones so they can bring their companies here. How dare you? At the parliament there, you take home billions of exgratia but you do not like us to fight for our scanty 2 tier. Are for real? Use your head to think. I urge all working folks in the constituency of this clown to show him the exit come 2016.

We are simply not helping our country to develop by our actions and in-actions. Ghana is still a developing country and as such we always have to marshal our resources, be it human, natural or financial to ensure the accelerated development of the country.
If we are in a country where more man-hours or in other words productive hours are lost due to idleness on the part of some workers, do we also have to compound the problem by rewarding workers on strike? Salaries should be the fruit borne out of hard labour, therefore it is very alarming when labour is rewarded for being on strike in industrial disputes for which all avenues for resolution have not been exhausted.
In order to bring some sanity into the system, I would suggest that a legislation is passed to ensure that workers who embark on a strike action which is deemed unlawful be denied their salaries for the period of the strike action.
Please, let us sanitize the system to prevent the dislocations which strike actions by workers bring to the economy. With togetherness, peace and love we can build a better Ghana for which all of us shall be proud of.
