Busia could have been a leader for any country in this world. That's not mine; that was what the world said about him when he died prematurely.
The man was a respectable, God fearing leader that had a complete program for all aspects our national development. Unfortunately, the communist Young Pioneers implanted by Nkrumah in our midst did not allow Ghanaians to benefit from his knowledge and the good work he had started for the sake of this country and its people. They hijacked and impeded our development until the year 2001.
Although Acheampong was a neo-communist Nkrumahist that carried out the dirty work of overthrowing Prof. Busia unjustifiably, and was supported and blessed by all Nkrumahists who also became pillars of his so-called NRC regime, they later on tried to disown him in order to hide their involvement in the destruction of this country and its economy. He was finally killed by another communist that also seized power and unleashed a Cuban-style dictatorship on Ghanaians.

The sycophant KB Ashanti is a disgrace. How can any reasonable human being in his right mind justify communist dictatorship and tyranny? Nkrumah did not have any excuse for doing what he did, except that he was preparing the ground with a series of unprovoked actions to create a one party state and declare himself president for life.
The Communist ideology doesn't have a place for opposition in the system. Have you ever heard of a communist democratic country with opposition to check excesses of the government? Nkrumah chose communism as a means of keeping himself in power indefinitely. He therefore imposed the Detention without Trial Act only to gag everybody, create a communist dictatorship and turn himself into a president for life. This is because, communists don't share power.

The so-called professor that tried to embellish Nkrumah's economic record needs to go to school again. These types of socialists' arguments could deceive Ghanaians in the 50s and 60s but they cannot do so now. Nkrumah was the first leader to introduce unsustainable debt into this nation by borrowing massively and unnecessarily to finance his whims and caprices. It was a misfortune that we had such a person as president immediately after the independence. He didn't lay a realistic economic foundation for sustainable development in this country considering the amount of money that was at his disposal in those days.
Ghana had about 1bln dollars in reserve when Nkrumah took over the reins of government in this country. Can you imagine the value of one billion dollars in the early fifties? Again, after 2years of Nkrumah's rule, cocoa prices at the world market rocketed and increased four-fold. But contrary to any sound economic planning, he did not reserve a fraction of the windfall for a rainy day, as the Whiteman had done with only one fourth of the revenue he got from cocoa. So, apart from revenues from gold and other natural resources, what did he do with all the money from the astronomical cocoa prices and the big reserve he inherited that took many years to build for our financial stability and sustainable development?
Kwame Nkrumah went on a spending spree both in Ghana and around the world, throwing his weight about and talking big. So when the cocoa prices fell close to the end of his rule, he was quick to point accusing fingers at the West, blaming them for manipulating cocoa prices to sabotage the economy of Ghana and overthrow his government. Finally, after misusing all the money mainly on prestigious projects, failed communist agricultural projects and whimsical mad-rush industrialization projects that did not withstand the test of time, he also burdened the young nation with another billion dollars' debt before he was forced out of the country.
The truth is that, Kwame Nkrumah met a rich confident country with stable economy, and left it nearly bankrupt in few years as a result of gross mismanagement. NDC is recklessly following suit to land our nation again in HIPC.

I think the Article is not very clear on how Prez. Kufuor was exonerated. The deeper full and accurate account must be explained to the readers and the Public in general.
If the Article is claiming that because the Prez. based his approval on the consultative reports he received from his Cabinet and all relevant Agencies and Institutions, would that be enough for exoneration?
And if that process alone is what is needed to exonerate the President, could that not be used by the current NDC Administration to claim the innocence of the incumbent President, Mahama, of all the charges of Corruption we have been dumping on him?
Cabinet and appointed Heads of Institutions often walk the same line as the President wants in Ghana. If we are claiming that so long as the President acts only upon the collective recommendations of his own Cabinet and Institutions under the Government control, the President is not culpable for any resultant mistakes connected to a particular case, then Prez. Mahama may have plenty of similar excuses to claim innocence in all the many innuendos of Corruption we direct against him via SADA, GYEEDA, etc.
The last time I checked, the popular notion for assigning responsibility to the incumbent President was that the bus stopped right at the Presidency, no matter where it took off from.
The Daily Guide must not make its own judgments on the cases without offering detailed legal basis, all for Political expediency. If we intend to curb Corruption, we must circle around the problems but boldly confront them, regardless of whom gets whacked in the process. Blames must be properly assigned for us to have all witnesses provide honest and full account that led to the crime or mistake, so that we can appropriately seal up the causes from recurring.
Surely, Prez. Kufuor could be said to have been ill-advised by his Cabinet. That would be more like the real cause of the mistake in question than claim simply that he is exonerated just because he acted upon the advise of his Cabinet and Institutions.
The subtlety of dealing with cases like this must be appropriately handled to get to the bottom of all the numerous fraud and Corruption cases afflicting us.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Elizabeth Ohene is one of the reasons why corruption would never stop in Ghana. Her ability to justify judgement debt payments made under Kuffour and have issue with those made under Betty is the reason why Ghana is being taken for a ride by our leaders. I'm sure she can find differences to help justify all the other corruption cases in Ghana such as the Ghana@50 scandal, CAN2008 related judgement debt payments, Kosmos/EO Group deal, GYEEDA, SUBAH, etc. We will all sit patiently and wait for her to drop her knowledge and analysis on us.In the meantime CONGRATS FOR DOING YOUR JOB DEFENDING THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU. As you do that GHANA is suffering.

Let's continue to deal with corruption in this partisan way and the said canker will be with us forever. When my party member/gov't does it, it is justified and that it is only corruption when the other party member/gov't does it.
Shame on those who do that. Ghanaweb should not participate in such charade!!!!
