The so-called professor that tried to embellish Nkrumah's economic record needs to go back to school again. These types of socialists' arguments could deceive Ghanaians in the 50s and 60s but they cannot do that now. Nkrumah was the first leader to introduce unsustainable debt into this nation by borrowing massively and unnecessarily to finance his whims and caprices. It was a misfortune that we had such a person as president immediately after the independence. He didn't lay a realistic economic foundation for sustainable development in this country considering the amount of money that was at his disposal in those days.
Ghana had about 1bln dollars in reserve when Nkrumah took over the reins of government in this country. Can you imagine the value of one billion dollars in the early fifties? Again, after 2years of Nkrumah's rue, cocoa prices at the world market rocketed and increased fourfold. But contrary to any sound economic planning, he did not reserve any fraction of the windfall for a rainy day, as the Whiteman had done with only one fourth of the revenue he got from cocoa. So, what did he do with all that money from the astronomical cocoa prices and the big reserve he inherited that took years to build for our future financial stability and sustainable development?
Kwame Nkrumah went on a spending spree both in Ghana and around the world, throwing his weight about and talking big. So when the cocoa prices fell close to the end of his rule, he was quick to point accusing fingers at the West, blaming them for manipulating cocoa prices to sabotage the economy of Ghana and overthrow his government. Finally, after misusing all the money mainly on useless prestigious projects, communist agricultural projects, and whimsical mad-rush industrialization projects, he also burdened the young nation with another billion dollars' debt before he was forced out of this country.
The truth is that, Kwame Nkrumah met a rich country with stable economy and left it nearly bankrupt as a result of gross mismanagement and NDC is about to the same and land us in HIPC.

Where did they find the names? Someone might have put the names there and they are telling us that they can't trace to the source of this corruption? That is why corruption keeps on raising its ugly head because we refuse to find the culprits and punish them.
Unfortunately, it is the leaders that are doing that. How can someone tell me that someone is having a double and went to the bank to cash them but we can't trace them? How stupid could this woman be.

To me I think the Minister should be arrested i mmediately for removing those ghost names. For her own innosense she should published all such ghost names according to districts and town where these teachers were posted to. For how long were those names inserted and whether their monies were collected ot not and whose duty was to see the removal.
If these things are not corrected then Ghana cannot go anywhere.

The Takoradi Poly Students who were sacked for applying with fake certificates must be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction. Just sacking them is not enough.
Nowadays businesses and government organisations have stopped demanding Secondary School Certificate or Basic Education Certificate.
Each of these certificates are important. For example for many tertiary graduates the only certificate that can tell whether one can speak good English or whether one has adequate knowledge of Mathematics is the Secondary School Certificate.
Similarly the only certificate that can tell whether a tertiary graduate has basic knowledge of Ghanaian history, culture, agriculture and the basic geography of West Africa is the Basic Education Certificate.

The minister should also review the situation in GES where right from the regional directors to the district directors just handpick their favourate teachers to occupy positions of trust in variours offices withiout recourse to rank and academic qualification. It's very demoralising to the extend that a masters qualification in GES do not matter. Something serious should be done about this else qualified personal would always leave if higher qualification do not matter in GES hierarchy.

It utterly sad to know that our Ministry of Education, which is expected to instill moral values in our youth, itself is infested with corruption. To remove 6000 names from the ministry's payroll in one go leaves a lot of questions to be answered. How long have these undeserving names been sitting on the payroll? Who put these people on the payroll or when should they have been removed from the payroll? Who is responsible for the accuracy of the Ministry's monthly payroll before payments are effected? How many more "ghost" employees are still on the Ministry's payroll? How are the plans of the Ministry to recover all undeserving payments made to the people whose names have been removed to the payroll? Ghanaians need answers to all these questions under our rights to hold the government of the day responsible for corruption in any government agency.
