The heart of the matter is what the heck has it taken them three years and still counting to renovate her official residence at an accumulated cost of $184,000 and still no where completed. What kind of renovation has been ordered on an existing house that is gone pass $184,000 and still counting whereas she continues to leisure about in a hotel. Gov't money is not for personal comfort, we can't afford her black ass.
At the bottom of it can they produce any cost-benefit analysis to justify the continuous accumulation of such huge costs? We can't afford her sorry ass! She must go.

Are these people for real? What has "some young woman, single parent, who’s been used to some kind of life" got to do with this? First of all she is not young, unless we call 55 or so young in Ghana and her child is a grown adult (40 +) but in any case what has all that description got to do with wasting the government money? Ghana is just getting loans upon loans to waste and that is all. Lauretta is not an expatriate, so let us get off our high horses and accept that she made a bad decision and ought to pay for it. What is troubling though is how those huge claims were approved and paid.

By the way it was the Daily Graphic that surprising broke the story. I agree that the rot is all over place, and have said that many times but it still does not excuse her. In a cash strapped country like Ghana we should not be providing such lavish housing/hotels/luxury cars to government paid workers. These are unnecessary overhead expense that needs to be scrapped. I would not categorize as petty though -- government officials in rich countries have been dismissed/made to resign for much less. How do think the donor countries feel when they read about such pampering of our officials with donated and borrowed money?

We are in a crazy era, when we don't seem to have limits to spending. Now, we seem to have two types of scales for Ghanaians, while $200,000 is far beyond the imagination of the ordinary Ghanaian, it is peanuts to the rich. But we need a ceiling of how much rent a public official should be entitled to in the country. We need a conversation on this, not the threats coming from another NPP offshoot, AFAG.

Do we really have any sensible politician in Ghana these days? They all seem to be talking rubbish anytime they open their mouths.
The commissioner is not an expatriate, so she should not be treated as one. CHRAJ is not the world's court so I don't see anything so special about CHRAJ that the commissioner should be treated differently. These behaviors are some of the reasons why throughout the whole world, well qualify women don't get top positions. Sometimes, it's not about qualifications,it's about morals. Women in top positions sometimes become arrogant and disrespectful to society.

why was she appointed with no place to live? What was there no negotiation to keep her at her former residence till official residence is renovated? Housing of officials is a problem but NPP was selling -off such houses to their members. She could have been housed easily without staying in hotel. Ghana cannot afford hotel for government officials who originally live in Accra - but then comes the problem that government will pay hotel for bill for other officers from outside of Accra. How many other officers are in hotels in Accra?

God save Ghana! Isn't there any place we can deport such people too? How can any sane and sensible person condone the spending of public money in this manner. And defending it by saying others spend more is just the most stupid argument ever! Does this idiot not know that there is a BIG difference between public spending and private spending??? If a private company rents a place for a million bucks, well that's their money. But this spending of tax payer's money in a developing (!!!!) country is absolutely out of order. And a public figure like this idiot of a man condoning it just shows how lost this country is.

Mr Blay, did you really say this? Very strange. Granted that the current provission is to house the embattle CHRAG boss, did she have to rent a Hotel? For a Ghanaian who has her own house, and given a new appointment? Could she not have stayed in her own house? Could she not have stayed in the commissioners house while the renovation is going on? Is that how you politicians have massage the economy?
When Nana Akuffo-Addo was the Attorney General and minister for Foreign Affairs, Did he not stay in his own house to work? DId he even charge rent? Apart from some renovations and security measures done on his house, did Ex-president Kuffour not live in his own house??
Paying 450$ a night in a hotel is surely a big deal.
By the way how much space there is in a hotel room/Suite that a whole house could not provide even with ongoing renovations?? The same is being said of the governor of the central bank. How stupid, sorry for that, can they be??
