We do not seem to learn much from past mistakes in Ghana at all. We have had a problem with our education system mostly because we have more students graduating (successfully or not so successfully) from JSS seeking admission into SHS but are blocked because there are not enough slots at the SHS facilities to absorb all qualified students each year. Instead of looking to provide sustainable corrective actions we have allowed every Tom and Harry to open some hole-in-the-wall school in anywhere Ghana where parents and their students pay their hard-earned money to crooks to provide sub-par education to Ghanaians. This is true with students seeking admission to our 4 years universities/colleges also. We have artificially created a system that encourages bribery and corruption at all level of our admissions process for schooling in Ghana by creating unwarranted accommodation shortages at every turn in our education system.
If the people with so-called brains at government offices have come to the realization there should be an alternate schooling for the technically inclined and trades students to seek life outside the standard pathway why do we think one such facility would be enough? Do we not have more students fall short of university level admissions each year? Our polytechnics have failed to provide the requisite alternate skills training that have served the needs of most school age students in industrialized nations. I promise everyone that admission at this school is going to be froth with bribery and corruption because it is the only king in the region.
