@Zoobie-Zoobie: First IMF bail out was in May 1965. That is a fact you go learn your history and stop being a Zombie. And Nkrumah marched to the IMF orders which were bad then as it is now. Nkruamah became two-faced when the coffers started drying up -- they did not do a full disclosure of terms until Amoako Atta (finance minister) was forced to address parliament on September 10, 1965 to notify parliament.

Yes, you are right. Nkrumah's huge political ambition in a so called united Africa bankrupted the country. He started to impoverish Ghanaians when by 1964, Ghanaians were even queing for daily basic needs. Did Nkrumah not attend to obtain loans from the USA but was declined because of his association with the Soviet Union? Does American government give loans to countries without strings attached to it? In 1965, many people in Ghana was living in abject poverty, trying to make ends meet. When he was overthrown, the jubilation that spontaneously erupted shows that people were fed up with him. Was his statue not pulled down? He is the cause of some of our woes in Ghana.

My friend do you think that if the govt is overthrown today, there would not be jubilation?
There would be jubilation in any under-developed society or economy where the aspirations of the people are not met, if any of their govts at any time were to be overthrown. It is only an ignorant mind that would not acknowledge this fact. To restrict the jubilation of Nkrumahs overthrow to such petty and uneducated sentimental prejudice can only happen when enlightenment and education is scarce or found in short supply.
Ghanaians may have been queuing up for limited supplies of groceries in 1964 but they certainly were not short of electricity or water, neither were they inflicted with unprecedented levels malaria, Cholera, dysentery and other diseases.
Ghanaians were not short of work, housing and education which was free from birth to death and from kindergarten to wherever your brains and aspirations could take you. And it wasnt the kind of education which was short of substance and classrooms as we have today.
Interestingly, all these were not available to the entire Ghanaian population before Kwame Nkrumah managed to get rid of the imperialist colonial govt in 1957.
I wish that some of you who think that Nkrumah could have elevated this country from over 500 years of colonial suppression and abject poverty - for lack of a better word, in less than 9 years, can also do something little, just a little bit, to prove that it was and it is still possible to wave a magic wand to liberate a long oppressed people from centuries of evil oppression and poverty within a twinkle of an eye.
For your information, no other country in the world at the time, could have laid the kind of vast infrastructure that Nkrumah laid in Ghana, with our own resources and without slaves and stolen wealth from helpless colonies.
It is strange that people like you, who for whatever illiterate reasons, accuse Nkrumah of dictatorship but do not accuse the Europeans who ruled the Gold Coast for a couple of centuries, without any democratic involvement of the hapless native people whatsoever, of the same accusation of dictatorship. It is as if some of you think that it was alright for the Europeans to enslave and colonize Africans without any bother.
Anyway, it was in fact Kwame Nkrumah who holds the distinction of having introduced democracy for the first time in the history of Black Africa. And again, democracy evolves, it grows to a certain point of appreciation. Up to today we have still not evolved any further in democratic terms from where Nkrumah left us. At best, like they do in western democracy, we are all summoned to cast our ballot every 4 years and thats about it. We the people do not fairly benefit or enjoy from the vast resources of the country in-between the 4 years. It is only the politicians and their hangers-on who show any appreciable benefits of this vulgar form of democracy that we now practice.
If you Karikari are an honest person, I would like you to come back on this platform and explain for the understanding of all, how Nkrumah bankrupted Ghana with his huge political ambition to unite Africa. I would very much appreciate it if you can do this for those of us who seem to have missed some details of the evolution of our history.
Yes Nkrumah did seek to get a loan from the US to build the Volta Dam which we all, including yourself, benefit from today. This loan was in the first instance declined for political, and not practical or viable business reasons. The loan was however later granted by the US when Nkrumah made alternative arrangements to get the money from the Soviet Union. Can you beat this on moral grounds?
It might do some of you well to go back to school - starting from secondary level. You may pick up some of the essentials of education. That is integrity, honesty, discipline and objectivity in all that you do.

Nkrumah would have done many things with that money but he chose to spend it on other African countries. What did we benefit from that. Now, even Nigeria whose former leaders schooled at our universities for free sometimes refuse to sell us Gas for electricity. Do you know how many people that were sent to detention at Nsawam for no crime committed. Have you forgotten how much the British left in Ghana's coffers? What was the population of Ghana at that time? At Nkruma's time, children learnt under trees as they are doing now. Go find out how much he spent on his African unification. How many times did he try to overthrow some African presidents who did not tow his lane. He was not smart to know that Francophone Africa will never become part of Anglophone Africa. How much did he give Guinea's Sekou Toure to help their cause? Ghana at Nkrumah's time was not independent. How can we have a president without a deputy, a one party state, president for life who even replaced Ghana's flag with that of the party? If people are put in detention sometimes for just mere accusations and you call that democracy, then I am surprised. You better read a lot if you are that young or ask your grandfathers to tell you the fear under which many Ghanaians lived under Nkrumah. Did Ghanaians lived under fear under Kuffour and Mills and presently Mahama? If you are a president and people have to queue for basic daily supplies like sugar, soap, milk etc, then that country has gone bankrupt. You can disagree with me if you don't understand the word bankrupt. You better go back to school, read from various sources and don't be myopic in your thinking about what some bootlickers of Nkrumah tell you.

When the exploitation of third world countries by multi-national Corporations became the theme of many seminars held in Washington D.C.in the late seventies, one of examples cited frequently was the outrageous contract Kwame Nkrumah signed with R.J.REYNOLDS and Valco to have the Akosombo dam built because he(Kwame Nkrumah)was so desperate in accepting anything to have his "dream project" consummated. He even allowed R.J.Reynolds to import bauxite that they owed in Jamaica to Ghana so it could be melted with Ghana's "cheap electricity" generated by the Akosombo dam notwithstanding the fact that Ghana has her bauxite needed to be mined. It took the use of military fiat of Rawlings to undo that diabolical contract signed by the so called great Osagyefo. So Gye Nyame I'm glad you know your stuff and I wish this Samia girl would stop taunting some of us Ghanaians who lived through the tyrannical rein of her father and feel justifiable in saying that her father drew the templates used by our present day woeful politicians running our country as if it were some pam pam store as noted by Dr Prempeh the other day.

Why do we have to put up with these imperialist running dogs every year at this time?
First of all let me say that in the way that Rawlings stepped in, several decades after the fact "to undo that diabolical contract" as you ignorantly put it, likewise, does it make sense that after 60 years of independence, a country like Ghana with all her vast bmineral resources has to crawl to these capitalist shark imperialist institutions to beg for assistance which in any case will only further debilitate our economy, as has consistently been the story in the past? Even your fellow NPP imperialist road-runners are abhorred by this turn of events.
Kunka, you are either a very dishonest person or a very ignorant person for trying, in the typical manner of an unliberated slave, to simultaneously distort and misinform the public about the details of the contract with both Kaiser and JP Reynolds. In all business transactions there are concessions, like tax and import duty concessions. For you to play on the ignorance of characters like Gye Nyame and patronize his witlessness amounts to a level of irresponsible wrong-doing which can be compared to malicious dementia.
Mind you, it is your history that you are attempting to disfigure in the childish and impossible effort to demonize Nkrumah. This is very typical of those of you who support the terrorists of Ghana - Danquah, Busia, Afrifa, Kotoka et al. They hate Nkrumah with such 'mischievous' venom that the very little grey matter in their heads turns to mashed jelly at the mention of his blessed name - like a devil-worshiper who is confronted with a Christian cross.
The fact however still remains that what Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory achieved for Africa and the entire Black race, no other person of African descent or of any other race has managed to accomplish even 20% of it in the entire history of the world for Africa. Even you, witha ll your paranoia, are a beneficiary of all that Kwame Nkrumah did for Ghana and Africa but as ungrateful as you are, you choose to scorn the man. You are the kind of person who would describe even God as a dictator and reject him.
Yes, he was human and therefore he may have made some mistakes, insignificant as they were, here and there in the desperate effort to extricate the Blackman from the dehumanizing capitalist oppressive chains of the white race. But what profit do characters like you gain when you constantly and exclusively zoom into the petty trivia of the mans monumental and unassailable accomplishments, only with the aim of demonizing the greatest African ever? What is your problem? Is it psychological or does it stem from the need to impress your colonial masters in the frantic need for sustenance?
It is so very annoying when insignificant nonentities, not known for having achieved anything in their lifetime - shady characters such as yourself, have the audacity, the effrontery and the street bravado to as much as criticize the man who the entire African continent and the Black Diaspora bow their heads down to, in total veneration and admiration for having ultimately released the Blackman from from over 500 years of enslaved servitude from white imperialism.
Why is it that you, an insignificant nonentity, thinks that you know better than the overwhelming sentiments of over 1.5 billion people all over the world? When will you ever learn?
And by the way, a little trivia of your kind. the word is REIGN and not REIN. Have a good day.

You perhaps live beyond our Solar system and not conversant with what goes on in our part of the world. How many political opponents fled his country when he was in power?

2. Where on earth did you get this fairy tale about Gaddafi being involved with Rawlings coup - or for that matter any other coup in and around Africa? Dont turn honesty on its head with your lies and dont allow yourself to be manipulated by cheap imperialist propaganda. Can you clarify further with any information that you may have about this your assertion?
3. I really do not know how many political opponents fled Libya during Gaddafis rule but political opponents all over the world, flee even the most sedate govts so it is not an exceptional case if that was the case in Libya. I would presume that you are now happy about how your imperialist friends have now destroyed that country and are freely siphoning their oil to their advantage. Wise up man. You cannot be a fool and a stupid nigga forever.
4. I doubt if you are mentally capable of understanding what the scope of imperialism is, much more to speak against it when they err.
5. I am a Ghanaian so why should I go and live in any other country?
6. Yes I know that the Communist Peoples Republic of China has seen the light of socialism and the massive development that, that light has earned them. Unfortunately for you, the light they have seen is not quite the same light a dumb ass like you is seeing. Open your eyes and take a closer look. You will really see the true light.
7. If as you say, you hate oppression, then you must know that you are a member of a globally oppressed and abused race, courtesy of colonialism, capitalism and imperialism - the triplet ideology that has ensured that you remain hewers of wood and drawers of water for the white race.
Let me leave you with an apt quote from Harriet Tubman, a freed African slave who fought against slavery in America a couple of centuries ago: "I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more, if only they knew they were slaves". Karikari you have got to wake up and realize that you are still a modern-day slave of a glamorized slave system.

The world is run by power relationship and not personality. Nkrumah was about power for the African world. Wake up

You must be a little boy just fantasising. Just have a look at the website of the University of Ghana and you will learn that the university was built in 1948. It could not have been built by Nkrumah. Social Security Bank was established under Acheampong. There are however, some factories you did not mention because you were obviously not born in Nkrumah's time. He even had national bakeries and all sorts of bull shit. Common sense will tell you that these institutions are not institutions that are run by the government in any country. Did you ever see GNTC? No government runs retail shops. Did you mention three international airports? Does Ghana have three international airports?
Lets merry and celebrate Osagyefo today whatever dream you have make it real. This form of propaganda is very childish...
Dear Ms Samia
Do not worry.
If there was that opportunity for Ghanaians to be are able to reverse our movements, we would encourage Osagyefo to do things his way.

Nkrumah was the first to do so so stop this nonsense about Nkrumah would have been disappointed. He was the first to bankcrupt the country.
SAMIA IS TRYING HARD TO REWRITE HISTORY AND MAKE HIS UP AS A SAINT, WHEN THE TRUTH IS THAT, HE WAS A DICTATOR, RULING OVER A COMMUNIST, ONE PARTY STATE. HE WAS THE FIRST TO SEEK AN IMF BAIL OUT IN GHANA'S HISTORY.
you seem to be very knowledgeable... where did you study your twisted political history?
@Zoobie-Zoobie: First IMF bail out was in May 1965. That is a fact you go learn your history and stop being a Zombie. And Nkrumah marched to the IMF orders which were bad then as it is now. Nkruamah became two-faced when the ...

You are too dumb trying to act smart. Are you saying Nkrumah did not go to IMF? Go and study your political history again, Nkrumah took us to IMF in 1965
Nkrumah took loan from IMF but it did not end up in his pocket. He put it to good use for the country.
Ghana joined IMF in September,1957; 6 months after our independence and borrowed and had to abide by their conditionalities. Samia is in some fantasy world or has been fed with lies. My own father was part of the Nkrumah gov ...

Unfortunately, Samia was too young and still too privileged to have noticed any of the hardships that went on under the watch of her father. Some of us lived during his reign of terror and know him better.

It looks like you also did not live under Nkrumah. You are the one to be told talk is cheap. Even Nkrumah's cabinet ministers lived in terror because they could be jailed for opposing him in cabinet.
