Sunyani Poly was built as a 4 yr Technical School and when the school was converted to a polytechnic, no additional funds and infrastructure were added to the exiting facility to accommodate the expansion faculties.
Again the institution must start upgrading their curriculum and award first degrees instead of those useless HND DIPLOMAS.

On infrastructural challenges, Dr. Asamoah mentioned inadequate lecture halls, offices and housing accommodation for staff, hostel accommodation, computer laboratories and workshops as some pressing needs for the Sunyani Polytechnic.
He appealed to government to as a matter of concern make funds available for the establishment of more laboratories and workshops to make teaching and learning more effective and practicable, and thus reflect its core mandate of training useful middle-level human resources.

The Takoradi Poly Students who were sacked for applying with fake certificates must be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction. Just sacking them is not enough.
Nowadays businesses and government organisations have stopped demanding Secondary School Certificate or Basic Education Certificate.
Each of these certificates are important. For example for many tertiary graduates the only certificate that can tell whether one can speak good English or whether one has adequate knowledge of Mathematics is the Secondary School Certificate.
Similarly the only certificate that can tell whether a tertiary graduate has basic knowledge of Ghanaian history, culture, agriculture and the basic geography of West Africa is the Basic Education Certificate.

Very interesting article, but which people are still attending polytechnics in Ghana these days. Employment rate after poly graduation stands at 5%. Why would an employer employ a poly graduate whiles you can get somebody with university degree to clean your house in East Legon for less money. Avoid polytechnics and go to the training colleges, nursing colleges and private universities if you wants to be employed after school. Be smart.

In my opinion degrees are valuable only if, designed to make holders capable of reflecting the content of their achievements or qualifications.
What benefits does it bring, if graduates are produced to the employment markets as employees and not employers? Who are going to balance or offset the huge Classy deficits in Ghana's demand and supply chains?

I guess the problem for the Polytechnics will continue if we don't change our attitude towards the Graduates of the Polytechnics. Government was adamant to these issues when the graduates and students of polytechnics raised these concerns since the 1990s. I am sure very soon, the Polytechnics will be closed down. The prescription that the polytechnics will be changed to Technical degree awarding institutions may not be the solution. As a country, we are not thinking about training enough middle level manpower. Our Industries may be forced to employ upper level management for middle level. Some of the Private Hospitals too may train half-baked students who may not acquire the necessary skills and competencies to help transform this country
