Why not ? Bcos you have no life, and people who are miserable and disappointed in life never think of any good for others.Mahama can carry Accra toilet on his head who cares ? If he is a serious president who is working to get things done will he go into gutters to clean ? Why are people working for AMA ? What is the use of Oko Vanderpuye the unkempt mayor ? The mayor with a frown face, his face look's like he is smelling a funny scent.Going all the way to Accra gutters and leaving Bole Bamboi is not going to help you with votes. It is even an insult to the Gas, just to tell them they dirty why not any area apart from James Town ?and you foolish cool, nobody needs you to choose a president for Ghana and Nana wouldn't go so low like that? A leader puts in place responsible people to work and get things done, Nana has the people who are ready to serve their country well, he has the people who will work hard for every Ghanaian to feel at home.Nana is bringing on board people who are hard working and have their money already not afro moses type of people who will be running with ghana's money to buy designer dresses and shoes, not people who will be using ghana's money to build mansions, Nana's team is coming with vim, they all have their houses and they are going to invest in the ghanaian youths to have a better future so if 'you' cool are hopeless do not infect your hopelessness on our youth who have a brighter future under competent men and women in waiting.GHANAIAN YOUTH BELIEVE IN YOUR COUNTRY, for ghana has great men and women who are ready to turn your hopelessness into hope and they are just waiting for you to give them the green light.VOTE MAHAMA AND HIS INCOMPETENT NDC OUT for a brighter future

People should understand some of these things - they are done to convey messages.
The President was drawing the attention Ghanians to the need to keep their environments clean without having to rely solely on governing authorities. Each of us has a responsibility to do so for when the choleras strike they don't discriminate.
One would argue that people are paid to supervise the cleanliness of our environment and others are paid to do the physical work. But that does not stop us from dirtying our environment.
The President, by his act, has sounded a wake-up call on all of us Ghanians to KEEP OUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN.

This is not leadership, leadership is having the necessary institutions, programmes, organisations, laws etc in place and making sure these are working, and not a president going into a gutter one day and thinking the problem will be solved. No country relies only on its citizens to its towns and cities clean. Instead of spending time in the gutter, he should spend time in his study to come out with a comprehensive program to solve the massive sanitation problem in Ghana - that is leadership. You see, we Ghanaians/Africans we love gimmicks, and that has never helped us. People need to be tasked and payed to do the job and should be supervised, audited and monitored to make sure they do the job and do it well. This might also involve we the citizens paying for it in some form. In UK every house (property) pays Council Tax, and this is what is used for cleaning cities, towns and villages, and also for policing and refuse collection etc, and the people make sure this is done. They are not interested in the prime minister digging the gutter, they want to see the job done by those who receive the money to make sure it is done.

JAH LOVE, what President Mahama did was not leadership but rather leadership failure. When there were reports of rubbish not being collected in Accra, that is when as a leader he should have ordered the Accra Metro Chief Exec to act or be sacked. Personally see nothing wrong with the president descending into the gutters. If he stayed aloof by the edge, the same people would complain he doesn't demonstrate leadership. The choking of the gutters in accra is a result of a myriad of failures, and I am afraid it's going to get worse. Reasons abound from the failure of proper zone planning and the shear overpopulation of the city. I can't think of a solution.

The proper way would be working to put some teeth into the regulations against littering and dumping or come up with new ones that mandate severe consequences and then sharpen the teeth of enforcement. It is a good photo-op but useless because new trash is accumulating even as you clean the present one. The problem will be in the enforcement area because so long as public officials take bribes, nothing can be achieved. I think we are beginning to understand this.

Almost two decades ago, the P(NDC)gov't was in power and their leader then, Jeremiah John Rawlings was in the gutters.
Fast-forward to 2014, and the same
P(NDC)gov't with it's leader John Dramani Mahama is also in the gutters.
The most significant conclusion that can be drawn from this spectacle is that, Ghana has not progressed within the 20years. Ghana has not advanced beyond the leaders of the
P(NDC) getting into gutters within 20 years. Indeed, that is a vey scary and catastrophically dangerous situation in that effectively Ghana has been stuck in a time warp of almost a staggering two decades or numerically, a mindboggling time span of 20years under the P(NDC)gov't. This is indeed a nightmarish state of affairs and it's a very, very sad day for the country, a very sad day for the development of the country, and a downright unfathomably, sad day for effective governance of the country under the Mahama NDC gov't.

No matter what he doeshis enemies will come after him. Personally I think Sefa Kayi and his lot were embarrassed by Mahama action because of their own inaction. Sefa Kayi was washing cars to promote Hepatitis but will not organise his neighbourhood to clean their gutters despite his influence. What good is he? What he likes to do is being called "chief director general" on the air by blowhards and gasbags. He's ashamed because it took the whole president of the country to show them what citizenship means. That regardless of your position you need to pitch in to help the country. These self appointed opinion makers of the country just talk but do nothing to help the country. The Sefa Kayis, Joselyn Dumases and John Dumelos should use their influence to help the country. They can start by cleaning up their choked gutters. In my country influential people are doing wonders to help the heal the earth. Justin Trudeau, Leonardo di Caprio etc etc are making a change. Kwame Sefa Kayi just sits on the air and talks trash. What's funny is some of the commenters bashing Mahama on this topic clean gutters, toilets and floors for a living in the UK,US and Canada. But somehow they find this beneath them.

I guess when it comes to something as stupid as sports they understand symbolisms. Here let me help you. Sometimes symbolic acts is what it is required to get people motivated. No every Ghanaian can play for the black stars but buy wearing a jersey you hope to inspire the team. The same for the presidential acts. They are meant to inspire. Mandela's acts doesn't mean every one should spend 26 years in prison before they can appreciate what de stood for. Leaders all over the world use symbolic gestures to inspire. Only stupid Ghanaians lack the sense to understand symbolism.

Interesting, because in my governance class, I learnt that the President, CEO, Leader is the chief servant. He can lead by example, get people to understand him/her and work as part of the team.
However, because of the way we view our Prsidency, we think that some things are below the person who holds the office and therefore the leader should not descend to some levels. But do we the people who do not want to see our Presidents in gutters or cleaning environments ensure that he is nog over to do so by keeping our environments clean?
We should all bow our heads in shame, how can we be so filthy? How can we in this day and age be battling cholera with the meager resources we have instead of using it for productive purposes. We want to live in big houses, drive posh cars, etc, but we litter indiscriminately, urinate anywhere, or look the other way when we see others do it, ignore rules and regulations with regard cleanliness.
Do we take on those who are paid by our tax payers money to ensure these are done. Who are our representatives in the District, Municipal, Metropolitan Assemblies? Do we know them? How do we hold them accountable? The buck stops with the President, agreed, but don't the people have a role to play in their governance?
