S.E.X before employment or appointment must stop. Employment must especially in government must be by qualification which should include BECE and SSSCE certificates.
Rape cases are on the increase in Ghana. Judges and WAJU of the Ghana police force must do more to protect our society. Some people have become so notorious of raping and getting away with it. Many believe that it is a weapon capable of scarring individuals to the very soul and seize the least opportunity to use it; using it on the families of their political or business competitors. Not even those at the higher echelons of our society must get away with it. It is said that a man paid a student to rape the daughter of his business and political competitor. The rapist got away with it.
The number of court houses and judges in Ghana are inadequate especially in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The population has ballooned and changes have to be made. The same can be said of the number of police officers and the number of penitentiaries. On a visit to a number of court houses around the country I found the Ghana flag and the Ghana Coat of Arms (Seal) absent. This must change.

Mr. 'Phd Water Engineer', please, do not give people any false hope. What the Forestry Commission boss said may be a little farther out but is quite possible. If you really are a Water Engineer, you may be dwelling on your theoretical knowledge of how we could "easily" recycle water to doubt the distress alluded to.
However, there have been many instances where local Drinking Water Supplies have been strained and importing water from afar was necessitated. Such importation may be temporary but only if the necessary measures to improve the availability of water locally are undertaken.
California, in the USA is now seriously contemplating importing water from other States, up North, possibly. Some of the Western States in the USA are in some legal tussle over control of Aquifers (Underground Water Tables). The estimated cost of maintaining a sustenable Drinking Water source to California alone is said to run into Billions of Dollars. Many Cities are now even rationing Water via time slots.
The above scenario testifies to the possibility that Ghana could end up in similar straits, in spite of the fact that USA and Ghana are thousands of miles apart, and Oceanwide separate Countries. Yes, the technology to provide drinkable water from various sources, including even processed Waste Water, is available. But it all costs lots of money to build and use it. Obviously, we do not have to wait till it becomes necessary to utilize, say desalination of Sea Water, to provide our folks with Water to drink. We may not even have the money to build the plants for that. Our Politicians are clamoring for the lion's share of our Revenue-producing ventures and Resources for their personal wealth. If we do not push them now to take care of the Drinking Water situation, within the context of saving our Watershed areas, we would be caught flatfooted on the desert.
The point is that if we fail to act now, we WILL pay dearly to provide ourselves Drinking Water. That is no joke. Therefore, Mr. 'Phd Water Engineer' this is the time your help may be needed most. We do not have to come begging at a future date. If you are a Ghanaian, you must offer your assistance to the Government, or deal directly with the appropriate Communities to help correct the problem before it gets worse.
20 years ago, if anyone had said most Urban Dwellers in Ghana would be drinking sachet/portable Drinking Water, we would have booed that person. But now it is a daily reality. We must not wait any longer.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Mr. Afari, did you really mean to say import water like literary? you might be joking. Maybe you made a rhetorical statement. Ghana will never import water. If say, Kolebu or Okomfo Anokye happen to have shortage of water, it doesn't mean the country is running out of water. All it means is that those people in charge are not smart enough to make room for contingencies of that nature. Ghanaian leadership across the board must be proactive and not to sit idle by.

Surely, the Forest Commission did not fully do its job over the years past. However, the need to organize whole Communities to combat the deforestation problem is imperative. We all must do our bit to save the Forests. Ghana is in grave danger of losing much of her most basic life-supporting RNatural Resources. This is not just a doomsday scare-tactic. This is the reality of our distressed environment.
The Government alone, via the Forestry Commission, cannot do it. Right now, the Economy is not doing so well. And Resources which normally come from the Government and needed to do the job are shockingly lacking.
If we wait for the Government alone to find the Resources to protect, preserve and manage the Forests, we would not have any left before those Resources become adequately available.
The Forests are the People's Asset that the Government is only managing for our best permanent interests. Now, because many can't find other means of living, and others think it is easier to acquire wealth with those illegal operations in the Forests, there is a clamor for the Timber, Gold etc., in and under the Forests. The Forestry Officials supposed to be protecting the Forests have been overwhelmed, fatally attacked, and are almost ineffective in stopping the plunder of the Forest Resources.
It was not long ago when the edges of our Forests could reach as far as Buipe, in the Northern Region. Now, the Forests have shrunk to below Techiman, in B/A.
I was in Ghana in 2012, and had the occasion to travel around a bit. I was totally dumbfounded by the massive disappearance of our Forests and the Streams that used to meander under them. Most of the Streams in the deforested areas are now 'dead', with empty, dry bed. Many of these streams provided sources of drinking water to many Communities, and supported Agriculture.
What the Forest Commission is now alerting us to is even scarier. The Forests have since time immemorial sheltered the Headwaters of most of our River-Systems. For instance, the Afram Headwaters reside near Abofour and Kyekyewere, in the Ashanti Region. By 2012, much of the Forest Reserve sheltering the Afram Headwaters had been pillaged and laid almost bare. Almost all the huge canopy Class One and Two Timber Species, from Cedar to Wawa, and even Onyina had been cut. And the Teak Plantations that were created to serve as some intermediary buffer had also all been wantonly harvested without the proper precautions or the post-harvest care to regenerate them.
This is a most serious situation but since the loudest of us live in the Cities and do not directly see these changes to our environment, nothing significant has been asked of the Parliament and the Executive to intervene. And the Politicians do not listen to, or interact much with the rural folks. They do so only when it comes to seeking votes for re-election to send them back to their Aircondition luxurious homes and Offices in the Cities.
Right now, we have just begun IMPORTING Wood to supplement our local supplies. If not, we would have to depend upon low quality wood in the class 3 and 4 species brackets like Ofram, or worse, for our House Construction and Furniture. I even heard that some folks had begun to cut Mango Trees for lumber. That is most disappointing.
And added to the Wood Importation, we are now being alerted that we may soon begin to import Drinking Water!!
Such is the extent of our failed management of our most valuable, life-supporting Resources.
This is why I am addressing you and others who may be dumping the responsibility on only the Forest Commission to think twice about the situation and offer their help, even if it is just their voices, to whip our MPs and the President to action.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Where is the community leaders, where is the law enforcement agency, where is our social responsibility ? We need to take punitive measures against those engaging in that behavior. We can not afford as a nation to destroy all our forest and turn around and expect other nations to come to our aid. If the forestry commission can not do the job let us kick them out and get people ready to fix the problem
