The major issue is to strengthen the oversight powers of the legislature or parliament to prevent it being used as a rubberstamp of the executive for their nefarious activities. We need a considerable reduction in the powers of the executive in appointing state officials who are usually appointed as cronies to vantage positions to loot state coffers. We need robust checks and balances in our system by introducing some form of decentralisation and devolution of powers to local government and radical reform of this useless assemblies by reverting to the old local government system. We need proportional representation in the legisco to stop the winner-take-all syndrome. The District Assemblies have been abused by being used as dumping ground for failed political cadres and foot-soldiers, boot-lickers etc. We need to set up independent state commissions such as Teaching Service Commission, Civil Service Commission, etc to be in charge of appointments and not the President appointing people to useless positions. The DAs and MCEs must be depoliticised.
