Deliverance from what? From truth? Why should the government even run an airline in these modern days?
Mpiani is right, government should rather encourage one of these domestic airline companies to attain international status. There is too much burden on the government already.
We should be encouraging private participation in some of these critical national businesses.
After almost 13 years as a state company, British Airways was privatised in February 1987. It soon expanded with the acquisition of British Caledonian in 1987, Dan-Air in 1992 and British Midland International in 2012.
It is no longer one of the headaches of the British Government. And mark it, it is doing very well in the international arena.
So, "Mrwhateveryouare", Mpiani is speaking wisdom so shut up and listen to him.

THIS USELESS BOG GOVERNOR IS JUST BEING ECONOMICAL WITH THE TRUTH HE IS VERY MUCH AWARE OF.
GHANA'S CEPS AND GRA HOME DELIVERY VALUES OF IMPORT DUTIES ARE LEVIED IN EURO, BRITISH POUND STERLING, THE US DOLLAR AND OTHER CONVERTIBLE CURRENCIES BEFORE IMPORTERS ARE CHARGED THE CEDI EQUIVALENTS, AMONGST MANY OTHER FRAUDULENTLY WICKED TAXES ADDED ON.
THIS IS THE MAIN CAUSE OF INFLATION AND EXCHANGE RATES VOLATILITY IN GHANA, AN IMPORT DEPENDENT NATION.
YET THEY EXPECT PRICE LEVELS TO GO DOWN IN GHANA TO REDUCE INFLATION?
NO! THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AS LONG AS GHANA CUSTOMS CONTINUE TO IMPOSE SUCH WICKED COUNTERPRODUCTIVE IMPORT LEVIES.
CUSTOMS - CEPS ARE KILLING GHANA'S ECONOMY AFTER HAVING REDUCED DEMAND FOR GHANA'S CEDI, AND MAKING THE CEDI UNWANTED EVEN BY THEMSELVES.
WE SHALL ALL SWIM IN THE SHIT CAUSED BY CEPS.
PRICES WILL CONTINUE TO SKY-ROCKET TO THE MOON. WHO CARES? THEIR CHILDREN AND GRAND CHILDREN, WIVES AND THEMSELVES.WILL SUFFER THESE SELF-INFLICTED WICKED CUSTOMS DUTIES, PARTICULARLY ON VEHICLES, IN GHANA WHILE TOGO'S FREE PORTS WILL CONTINUE TO OUTPERFORM GHANA'S PORTS FILLED WITH WICKED CEPS OFFICIALS.

Impiani, got it wrong, apart from the experience, employees from head to toe must hard working and are not thieves. No free tickets like they used to do.All the staff should pay in full for their pickets when traveling. There shouldn't be credit.I'm surprised what our leaders learnt when they lived and worked abroad. Anyway, we can make it if nepotism doesn't come to play while employing some patriots to have our airline. Even government should pay for the use of this airline.

Ghana Airways did not succeed because of our leaders and not just because of the competition. We have majority of the market, but goodness me. The arrogance and the corruption, coupled by nepotism meant majority of Ghanaians flew free of charge.
When I fly BA or Virgin I do get upgraded to 1st class if I purchased Business Class, but that happens only from London when handled by people with no relatives flying. But from Accra I never get an upgrade because only relatives of the Accra staff get the upgrade. That is exactly what happened with GIA. Only politicians and their relatives get upgrades and majority of the passengers travel free. How can we operate a national airlines as a family business, and the family is big such that almost everybody travels free. The sam principle operates every where that minister are appointed based on their family and friend ties not because of competence. Oh Ghana!

I agree with Mr. Miami. Ghana Airways and Ghana International airlines failed mainly because of mismanagement due to government appointment of favourites to managerial positions as well as non payment by government for tickets purchased just as it does with electricity. Consider the following :
1. Can the airline be strict on overweight luggage limits?
2. Will the overweight luggage charges go to the airline?
3. Will government officials and their relations travel at the expense of other passengers?
4. Will legitimate passengers be left stranded especially at Christmas because of politicians and their wives?
5. Will passengers luggage be left behind because a politicians wife should by all means come down with five to ten suitcases?
6. Will tickets be passed on to travel agents without records ?
These and more are what collapsed our airlines and since I cannot see them being addressed, I support Mpiani.
They can undercut prices to attract passengers but after the bitter experience who will patronise them again?
By the way, does Ghana still have the heathrow slot?

They took bribe to overthrow Dr.Kwame Nkrumah
They sold our Atomic energy to the Americans.
They are so racist that, they caused the deportation of mass foreign experts and industrialist from the country when Busia took over.
They pulled down all and abandoned all viable economic projects all because Nkrumah started it. “Everything Nkrumah is bad” yet they could not chalked down anything better memorable that has transformed any life in Ghana
Busia took to the presidency with too much talking and did nothing; He initiated policies and executed none of them. Whilst Dankwa descendants are seriously siphoning from state coffers to enrich and entrenched their families and well wishers. Thank God the then military saw all these dishonesty, nepotism, neo-colonialism and indiscipline growing from these arrogant nation reckless and non entities who seeked power and don’t know what to do with it than selling what has been built
Education is nothing to them; for them to get to the top means how much money you can exhibit or show to the public but careless about how they make their monies, they are greedy and enjoy backbiting, destroying, killing and make shameless utterances, bullying, join occult and make use of cannabis; these days cocaine.
Too much Trivialmindedness has engulfed with these so called Dankwa/Busia descendants who have never in their lives said the truth nor demonstrated maturity. They always portray silliness, low self esteemed and endemic mental slavery. What is so worrying is that they don’t mind destroying others because they want power. Attacking and distracting leaders without sound alternative is not only sickening but also portrays immaturity and emptiness of these cohorts. They just want to do or say something to grab unnecessary attention. They have no solution???. if you test their opinion by deep analysis, you always end up by cheap and shallow political biases and unfounded allegations.
They are so narrow minded that they will always dwell on shallow empty propaganda than to think of constructive alternative that will prove their ability as thinkers than “political hip pops” challenging and making empty utterances when silence would have earn them some respect.
It is very unfortunate to have calibre of people who displays nothing than greediness gluttony and cranking attitude towards each other. Even within their party they find it difficult to unite, how would they be able to unite the whole nation? NPP is a truly a joke they have nothing to offer. By their deeds you shall know them.

STC faced local competition, yet VIP and other private transportations work well in Ghana. Ghana Airways did not make profit partly because of poor management, the same as STC. Why do we think that people will use Ghana Airways over the more trusted flight? The answer lies in the type of airline, management, and routes they are able to plow. Given the challenges, such an airline should be local and regional first before venturing competively international.

There we go again.Dr. Nkrumah's State- this,State-that socialist mentality which has failed Ghana woefully.
Ghana Airways failed because it was owned by the Government(i recall the appalling behaviour of the employees).A Santa Claus who is a Good Samaritan, whose property can be pilfered and handled without any sense of personal responsibility.
Ghana was born CAPITALIST.It is the key to economic prosperity and social harmony. If you are selling Dr.Nkrumah's SOEs today, what makes John Mahama think that posterity will not sell the national airline in future for corruption and inefficiency?
Privatization is the magic wand. The government should create a conducive environment through fiscal and monetary policies for the private sector to thrive. And resign itself to running economic SOS errands to prop up the private sector when the occasion presents itself.
If Dr.Nkrumah had not been opportunistic and had teamed up with Dr.Danquah and his team,Ghana would have been better off.The NLM had the prosperity-guaranteed ideas. It was a misfortune that Dr.Nkrumah opted to go with the poor Socialist Russians. Let's learn a great lesson from this as a Nation and correct Dr.Nkrumah's erroneous decision.A scrutiny of Ghana's political history creates an impression of a circuitous journey to search for a government based on democratic principles,an open market economy and privatization. Therefore,it is a fruitless effort to revisit the formation of bureaucratic and absolutely inefficient SOEs.They are a waste of the tax payers money.

The Government must be getting out of the 'state enterprise adventure' -- not moving into it further! That adventure since Nkrumah's time has been one long, uneasy journey of failure! It's simply not worth pursuing any more! Not only should state enterprises be restrained to the smallest possible minimum, but also any suggestions of undertaking a state enterprise must be viewed with great suspicion!
Ghana and Ghanaians are simply too corrupt and too dishonest to run a state enterprise efficiently!

why others like klm, BA ,Lufthansa etc are keeping their Business but GH cant? tells you that People we put in the operational positions are self centered & corrupt.
Think about this
in my view Ghana should start only in 3 or 4 destinations
1.in europe ZURICH
2.in america & Canada WASHINTON
3.in Asia -somewhere in the middle belt where Transits to other destinations would not be defficult
1.
i choose Zürich in europe because Transit to other destinations can be easy and think washinton can also serve better connecting to America & Canada Counterpart where the feasibilty study of Transit would be easier
the second Point is the airfaires and the Airport charges must be minimised as a Strategie of you pay less but got Quality Services for more Patronage. oneway of traficking your customers from highly competetive grounds like UK, niederland and the Germans who would do anything to buy you out if they see that you are a threat to their Business
3 and most important Thing is
Hire a good Manager from Japan to stear the Business -the reason is our Africa Brothers are not deep insighted in Business and any outside strategy from a viable Company can buy them out. but for a japaness and a swiss Manager with clear laws & Guidelines you are guarantee in the Business.
lastly
all those previous benefits which led to the collapse must be scraped eg is the free ticket for the workers- as Long as the Company pay you monthly salary if you Need air ticket you must buy it, including the president & his Ministers .bearing in mind that if the GH Airline is not there you would buy a ticket before traveling

Impiani should show us any business in this world today that does face competition. What does Impiani mean 'if for the sake of pride' Ghana should go ahead to start another airline?
If Impiani and the N.P.P think because their government could not salvage and run Ghana Airways no other government can!! It is a pity to under-rate all Ghanaians including himself. Impiani wants to tell Ghanaians that the N.P.P knows how to sell what others have toiled to build but cannot and will never start another airline because of fear of competition? If Ivory can, Nigeria can, Burkina Faso etc why not Ghana? Are they supermen and women? Impiani is a disgrace to mother Ghana and should never be allowed to hold any position in Ghana again. No doubt, Kennedy Agyapong identified him as a 'drunk' he begged Kufour to give him a position in the government.

It would be good to have our national airline, but we have to find responsible,faithful,patriotic,business-minded guys,to man the industry.
Ghana can still acquire, fetch, find some men and women of integrity,to do a good job in the national airline business.
THERE ARE LOTS OF GHANAIANS IN THE DIASPORA,IN THIS KIND OF BUSINESS,WHO WOULD BE VERY MUCH PLEASED,TO BE USED IN RUNNING THIS SHOW,SUCCESSFULLY AND PROFITABLY.
They are more truthful and patriotic than our counterparts in Ghana.
The government should think about that, when deciding on those to man the national airline.

I have read every comment on this so far and I expected it to be an attempt to discuss why the two airlines failed and whether these can change for a successful new airline. I will suggest a journalist interview people like Madam Doreen Fianko, any long serving former Ghana Airways staff, Mr. Osafo Marfo, any long serving staff in the audit department, former board member like Sir Sam Jonah. These people I believe will say it as it is. I have added Osafo because I remember a news item on TV, when the airline approached him for assistance. He was surprised about how bad the situation was.The issue is CAN THERE BE A CHANGE OF BEHAVIOUR OR ATTITUDE TO ENSURE PROFITABILITY. From what I am seeing now, I DO NOT think so.
Just another front to milk Ghana. The NDC came to loot and share.
Excellent advice!
