LETS NOT PROMOTE WASTE BY PAYING EXTRA FOR EVERYTHING WHICH SHOULD OTHERWISE BE PART OF OUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE NAME OF MOTIVATION. THIS WOULD TEND TO BREED LACKADAISICAL ATTITUDES TOWARD DEVELOPMENT.

Are you serious? That was the best the bishops could come up with? How about a package for every Ghanaian! How about nobody works and they get paid! Come again; I thought Ghana was broke, I wonder why?

These bishops should concentrate on their own work and stop this nonsense. Are they going to donate the proceeds from the money the Church collects to defray the cost. Kwaseasem

This is complete rubbish. Are the Bishops saying that our Policemen should be paid extra allowance before they apprehend the armed robbers or better still our soldiers should be paid extra allowance before they go to the battlefield in event of war? After all was that not the job they were paid for to perform? Why then should we isolate the doctors and pay them extra allowance for treating a particular sickness. This our myopic bishops should wise up.

With a country that is already strapped for cash, it will be tough for Ghana to find adequate resources to prevent / fight the disease, including providing much needed protective equipment for medical staff.
The last thing we need in such dire circumstances is to overburden our depleted resources with such an irresponsible call.

Some health workers recently resigned from their jobs when Ebola patients arrived at their hospital in Nigeria. Some of those who stayed on have since died, including the doctor who attended to

I find it interesting the way everyone on this page is lambasting these bishops for their statement. The fact of the matter is that some jobs are extremely risky....not just for health workers but also in some other professions. There are priorities in life. No responsible parent would take on a job if they can help it, where one can easily die and in some cases as a result, their children end up homeless beggars on the street. The least an employer can do for these high risk workers is to give them an insurance package for their dependents in the event of their death. I don't think this is too much to ask. Some Ghanaians are wicked people, we expect workers to do very dangerous jobs for us and if they die as a result, and their dependents become homeless beggars, we pretend we haven't noticed it, perhaps even splash mud on them when they beg by the roadside or insult them for putting their dirty hands on our car glass. That is how much some of us care for our employees.
