I don't know what all this hulla baloo over this guy is about. May God give our authorities wisdom. What is the BNI trying to Prove to us? Straining at an ant while people are "Swallowing camels" in government offices. There are far more serious crimes to tackle than to waste time and resources flogging a "dead horse" while people are raping the country of millions. His passport uses a woman's number....so What? It may be a crime but there are far bigger atrocities going on that they pretend not to notice. This should not be in the news.

Why did Amoateng even need a passport to come home after his jail time and deportation from USA?
It doesn't make sense, the US could easily have handed him over or get him a Travelling Certificate for one-way home into the hands of the Ghanaian authorities. Who he is and nationality was never in doubt so I do not get this elaborate plan to go and get a passport to go back home.
It wasn't like he was just going to be let out of jail at the gates in the US and allowed to go anywhere he liked. Something does not add up. Was he Amoateng thinking he could sneak into Ghana unnoticed and without the press at the arrival hall? What a fool, when the uS will have made sure you were handed over to the Ghanaian authorities and monitored all the way home.
Anyway, I like the direction of the investigation now. The passport office is a den of corruption. I have seen NDC big wigs extended family members issued with even diplomatic passports, so they should stop playing ostrich. Corruption permeates every fabric of Ghana

The NDC wants to make political gains from the Amoateng case but they are all over the place. Or, maybe someone in the NDC wants the job of the passport director and using this as a decoy. The director must have signed the passport but it would be very difficult for him personally to ascertain the authenticity of every passport application.

First of all, he was asked to proceed on leave because it is an opportunity to replace him with one of their own. You don't 'fire' someone before you do any investigation. After firing him from the job, do they think they would get any meaningful help from him? Idiots in power.
When Amoateng was arrested, he had a passport with him which would be taken away from by the US immigration.
In 2009, no one knows why Amoateng still in prison came by the passport because he was only few years in prison and would not get out till this year so why would he try to acquired a passport?
Note that, he must have to be dumb not to know that his coming back to Ghana would be processed by US immigration whether he had a passport or not.
So where did he get the passport and who gave it to him? And did he hide the passport in the prison or a friend gave it to him when he got to the plane?
Note that when you are being deported, the US would send their officials with you and handed you over to Ghana immigration at KIA. So again, did US immigration use that passport to bring Amoateng back to Ghana? If they did, then where did they get that passport from?
We just love wasting money on stupidity. This should not have taken a day to find out what happened? But note that those who are doing this investigation keep the process long just to 'chop' more of taxpayers money.

I often admire your opinion on some matters but not this one. Ask yourself these questions. why would the BNI implicate this gentleman? was his signature on the passport, although it is known that in 2009, that gentleman was then not the director of passport? Did Amoateng mentioned his name as the source of the passport? Why would Amoateng need a passport to return to Ghana? Have you considered that the NDC Gov't can issued a directive to the ghana US mission not to give a passport to Amoateng, thus, he having to aquire one through the backdoor.

First of all, I am more concerned about the whole case and not just "picking up" the director of passport. Let's not be in denial when discussing issues about what ails the country. There is no way, a sitting government will "pick up" the director of passport if it was the government that appointed him on this 'silly' issue or even if he was to be a known member of the ruling party. To deny this means, you are not an objective person.
Now, let's go to the issue. You can't SACK Governor of Bank of Ghana because you have found his signature on a counterfeit currency without finishing your investigation, Can you? Just ask yourself that simple question?
I had not used Ghanaian passport for the longest time so I don't know whether the signature is done manually, which I doubt. Even if it is done manually, could the signature had forged? POSSIBLE. So why was he not investigated before being fired and later picked up to answer questions? Also, note that Director of passport does not go through every single detail of what people put on the passport applications before signing the passport. That is not his job.
And more importantly, unless we know that Amoateng put his real name, date of birth, and his occupation as an MP of Nkoranza and those tasked to look into the application did not bother to check, then we can blame the passport folks. But if he put Amoateng whatever from Sunyani and a farmer, how could the director know that it is the same Amoateng who was in prison in the USA?
Note, I am just giving you something to chew on because, as people we refuse to use our brain, but rather our emotions to ask important questions on issues. This case would have taken a day to find out what went wrong on the same day that passport was found on Amoateng.
Forget about the director of passport and answer these questions?
Have thought about the possibilities of Amoateng getting this passport on himself while being taken to Ghana with the US officials? Before answering the question, note that AMoateng was not free to take a cab to the airport but was removed from the prison with US officials to the plane and then to Ghana.

In the case of Cocaine, you will not be free into the society in any advanced country; you will be deported. That is why the case does not make sense.
Also, note that the passport was acquired in 2009 while he was in prison. So the question is, where was he hiding this passport; was it with his friends or on himself in the prison? We know that it could not be on himself in the prison so it could be with his friends.
And then this question,
Since he was going to be deported, The US immigrations or prisons would be the one that would arrange for his traveling documents and use it to deport him. Under normal circumstance, Amoateng would be accompanied to his destination by US official who would be holding this traveling document till they reaches their destination. This is how it is done in the UK, US, Canada or Australia.
So when they say "possession" on his arrival, what do they mean?
1- Did he use that passport to travel to Ghana? If so, why did the US authorities allowed that?
2- Was it found in his luggage that someone might have sent with him? If so, then Amoateng could not have been charged since he did not directly pack his own luggage.
These are some of the questions that need to be answered.

I dare say both NPP and NDC are very guilty of passport fraud. Both have issued diplomatic passports to unqualified party apparatzics. Oh Ghana, what is this NPP and NDC turning you into? Each party has an accusation against the other for every offence under the sun, from cocaine to passports. What at all do these two parties think of the country? Nothing will come out of these investigations as nothing came out from the killing of Ya Naa,Issah Mobila, the killing of people at Agbogbloshie, arrest of NPP women for drugs, arrest of NDC man at AFGO for drugs, arrest of NDC diplomat for drugs, the Georgina Wood cocaine/tape enquiry etc. Are these two political parties serious about tackling crime and corruption in the country? Why do they stampede all investigations involving their supporters? When are we going to have a crime fearing society? NDC and NPP when? Are you there for Ghana or for your party? The day these two political parties will learn to dissociate themselves from persons who break the law, that will be the beginning of a true democratic Ghana under the rule of law. But will this happen under NDC or NPP? I have my doubts.

Oh Boy!!!
We really have our priorities all screwed up as a country, don't we?.
We take loans to buy sanitary pads for school girls while our railway system which is supposed to be used to transport our minerals from the mining towns to the seaports are rotting away because of lack of maintenance.
We snatch and jail a businessman who provides hundreds of jobs for Ghanaians on suspicion of money( which happens to be his own hard- earned money) laundering without proper investigation while corrupt politicians are lining up their pockets and filling up their overseas bank accounts to the brim by stealing from the national coffers.
We haul into jail once again someone who might be an innocent person over a passport while WOYOME and his posse' of crooks are running around freely with a hopping sum of 50 million Cedis which is not theirs in their pockets.
Any wonder our beautiful country is now being referred to as a "BANANA REPUBLIC"?

I have a Nigerian guy working under me in Canada. He was born in Montreal while his father was a lecturer in one of the universities in Montreal. His parents went back to Nigeria when this guy was still young but he's been a Canadian citizen by international law. So when he grew up and wanted to come back to Canada, he got his Canadian passport without any hassles.
But that's Canada and like we all know, English and French are the languages spoken and Nigeria is an English speaking country.
Ghana is not a Russian speaking country but by international law you are a Russian citizen so you are entitled to a Russian passport.

This is the wakeup call I have been sounding to remind politicians there is no credible enforcement of our voter registration practices and procedures. For starters, Ghanaians of voting age are supposed to provide a national ID to acquire voter registration cards. But the list of acceptable ID’s for obtaining voter registration card include our so-called passport does it not? How can anyone with any credibility then claim there are fraudulent votes cast when our most important ID (Ghana passport) can be porously obtained like using our beaches as toilet facilities?

Mr. Quansah you need some kind of education on issuance of passport. Every printed Passport bears different serial number and are issued out as fellow Ghanaians apply for them and the numbers keep on changing as they are issued out. It is therefore not possible that your new passport could bear the number of your expired or stolen passport. They therefore insert the expired or stolen passport number in the new one. This is what all civilized countries do.

To be frank, Mr. Amoateng is a disgrace to Ghana and the family as well, and must not be pampered. In a civilised country, his Party will dismiss him from the Party, and withdraw all his benfits. A former Director of Passport Odoi Anim says ex-convict Eric Amoateng’s fake Ghanaian passport was issued by Ghana’s Mission in Washington in the State of Columbia (DC).
Speaking to Joy New’s Kwakye Afreh Nuamah, he stated that Amoateng’s passport was issued in 2009 and in that year “I was not in Ghana; I wasn’t even Director of Passport – I was a Deputy Ambassador in Holland and came back in 2011.”
Mr. Anim was picked up by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) Wednesday to help with investigations into allegations that he had knowledge about the forged passport issued to ex-convict Amoateng.
Mr. Amoateng arrived in the country recently, after serving a 10-year jail term in the US for illegal drug trafficking but was arrested by the Ghana Police at the Kotoka Airport for allegedly possessing a fake passport. Checks by authorities indicated the passport belonged to a woman.
He was charged with the crime and subsequently granted a Gh?200,000 bail with three sureties, one of which was to be justified by an Accra Circuit Court.
But, according to Mr. Anim, he became a Director of Passport in July, 2012 and could not possibly be involved in such a scam.
“Usually, when someone is released from prison, he travels on Laissez-Passer and so if he came on a passport from the US, obviously the passport was issued by our Mission in Washington.”
He insisted he never signed a passport from the Washington Consulate because he did not work there.
“I don’t work in the Washington Consulate; I never signed passports from there and that particular passport was machine readable so it is very easy to find out the director who signed that passport for Mr. Amoateng.”

what about Mahaama
Ghana consul is US failed knew Amoateng was coming home for which any passport he was holding had expired. All he needed was lasses passé. I don't think they even saw him when he was released.
If deportees don't need passport why did he get a fraudulent passport.

Fraudulent Director of passport
PLAP FOR BNI, VERY GOOD SHOW
Was this current director at post in 2009?Just asking.
No, but what if his signature was on the passport? such things can happen you know it.
You see how quick they are in arresting Mr. Eric Odei, the Director of Passports. Yet their corrupt cronies and the greed bastards are walking around freely.
MAHAMA, RAWLINGS AND THE NDC ARE SICK
jail the director,, he has been issuing passports to aliens everywhere for 200 dollars each. deal with him very very drastically
There are non-political cases which BNI could be effective but Mahama & his ministers use BNI for their own political ends. This not "governorship" is something else.
BNI is used by Mahama to do his dirty job. That is why cases BNI is involved turn to be fiasco in court
Dont think BNI is for fair play>
I dare say both NPP and NDC are very guilty of passport fraud. Both have issued diplomatic passports to unqualified party apparatzics. Oh Ghana, what is this NPP and NDC turning you into? Each party has an accusation against t ...
