'I'm not plotting to unseat Amissah-Arthur'

A minister of State at Ghana’s seat of Government, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has denied any covert attempt to unseat sitting Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.

Pro-National Democratic Congress newspaper The Al-Hajj reported in its Thursday edition that four sitting Ministers including Afriyie-Ankrah, Foreign Affairs Minister Hannah Tetteh, and NHIA boss Sylvester Mensah are clandestinely scheming to partner John Mahama come the next election.

The paper alleged that the former governor of the West African nation’s Central Bank is not likely to run again come election 2016 hence an intense lobbying behind the scenes for his successor.

Afriyie-Ankrah, who was hitherto heading the country’s Sports Ministry described the report as “baseless rumours."

According to him, the “speculative” report is not only “disrespectful” but “diversionary.”

“I’m not interested,” Afriyie-Ankrah told Accra-based Radio Gold. “I’m focused on my job and how best the government achieves its aims.”

“We are in times of challenges; let’s allow the President and his team to work to fix the economy.

“I have not even thought about that. This is not the right time to discuss this. It doesn’t show respect at all to the Vice President,” Afriyie-Ankrah stated.
