The region's adult literacy rate stands at 29.7%, whilst the Great Accra and Eastern regions have 87.9% and 73.5% respectively. Ashanti region is next with 72.8% rate whilst Upper West has 30.9% and Northern region has 32.1% literacy rate.
The Regional Coordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED), of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, Issah Mohammed Imoro, said this during the overall regional reading competition, between the Bongo District and Bolgatanga Municipality.
