We are all living in Ghana. We are bemoaning the woeful economic situation in the country. Many of us are suggesting a down sizing of Government officials, of the cabinet members etc. This is purportedly to reduce the numbers on salaries and all the freebies at the expense of the tax payer. Now you who should encourage the Government to heed to this call are now asking the Government to add another 125 MPs. This means the normal salaries and the freebies. Yet we all know the economy has to be salvaged. Does this make any sense?

Putting things in context,275 MPs is a serious drain on the economy for a population of about 25 million where as in USA with 300 million population are making do with 400 hause of commons.Simple proportion will show that,Ghana need only about 34 MPs.
If Ghana use this small number, the country would be able to save a lot of money because freebies and emolument that goes to these redundant mps will be saved.

Again, the Blackman is EXPOSING the Supposed STUPIDITY of the AFRICAN.
"What an INSANE & IDIOTIC idea?" How the hell do you pay for it, fools? Continental America (USA) has a population of about 300 million but has only 535 Congressional members (435 in the House and 100 Senators in the upper chamber)—and they DON’T borrow, beg other countries, or rely on development partners to pay for that, you damn Negro!!
If the IEA doesn't have anything better to do with its time, then President Mahama has acres of farm lands in the Northern region for the IEA to cultivate for Rice and he also has plenty of Goats and Akomfem to raise.
Ghana doesn't need this foolishness to solve the political problems we have down there, but rather "good education on DEMOCRACY for both our politicians and the citizens." Our politicians are "full of it" and don't understand the actual practice of democratic principles and governance. And, worse, the population is largely illiterate and don't understand the workings of democracy either. Winner takes all is part of democracy and Real Politik, but the “political immaturity” of our politicians is where the damn problem lies.
So, I challenge the IEA to embark on massive educational programs around the country to educate the citizens and also hold educational seminars on democratic governance for our politicians—and give them a full dose!!

This IEA so-called "Winner-Takes All" Committee is now becoming irrelevant. It wants proportional representation coalition government enshrined in the constitution and now they want the number of MPs to be increased to 400. Where were these people when the number was increased to 275 in 2012? Did they not hear the argument that 275 was too big and too expensive? The idea is bogus and should be ignored.
If Ghana wants to increase the number of women and disable MPs then the various political parties should be compelled to give safe seats to women and disable candidates. There is no need to increase the total number of the Legislature to 400 for that purpose. The government currently is unable to fulfill its statutory payment obligations when due because of lack of funds so what is the point in overburdening the public purse with another unnecessary expenditure? Where would the additional 125 MPs sit when the house is already full?

Why not make it mandatory for every Ghanaian citizen above the age of 20 years become their own representative in parliament so we can all ensure our own rights? It will ensure almost all its citizens have the same wages and benefits and we are all prioritized to get our paychecks and mileage allowances at the same time not to mention our retirement packages.
The only thing that will save Ghana is the same thing that will ensure the survival of the human race which is the complete elimination of acts of hypocrisy. Some minorities are marginalized because of hypocrisy. It is the same hypocritical trait that enforces our tribal prejudices and justifies acts of thievery, nepotism and the normalization of immoral acts. After all we have justified acts of cheating and tactics prevalent during the slavery days by dressing them up as economic freedoms; businesses can make tons of money off the labor of employees but employees are denied rights to form unions to seek better wage concessions. In Ghana some do have them dressed up property seeking ideal even as landlords take two year rental advances from the poor to build new rental units while tenants struggle to exist.
Why not let each one of us Ghanaians, that is, represent ourselves in government and ask for pay that suits our lifestyles? Would that do for you folks at IEA? This wonderful idea of mine would put an end to political party solicitation of money, wasting money and stealing money from the rest of society when in power. There will be an end to political campaigns and an end to elections, rigged or fair. We may even bring fairness and honesty to our courts, especially the Supreme Court because we could all be above the laws we enact from parliament. Would this not make Ghana a more democratic nation than all democratic nations on earth? How about that IEA?

IEA, this is madness. You just sit down in your offices and make suggestions without counting the cost. 400 parliamentarians for what? The 275 in parliament are not making any impact in the socio-economic transformation of the country. The majority in parliament is only interested in approving loans for the ruling government to cash in for their personal aggrandizement. Parliamentarians are only interested in their car loans, monthly salaries and allowances. Parliament is only a talking shop, and to increase the number from 275 to 400 is nothing but madness. The number should rather be reduced. In fact, we don't need more than 120 parliamentarians in Ghana. Governments and the EC always find unreasonable reasons to increase the number of parliamentarians for political expediency.
IEA should calculate the salaries and allowances of the 275 parliamentarians as at now, and juxtapose it against the cost to be incurred if 400 parliamentarians go to parliament.
This suggestion by the IEA is bogus.
Ghanaians are suffering, and the government must set up industries and create jobs for the jobless, and inculcate the habit of working hard to improve the economy, and not to create more avenues for more people to go and sit down and just talk and talk and doze off, and at the end of the month collect huge sums of money for just talking. They don't add any value to the socio-economic development of this country.

Some of our policy think thanks are enjoying moon ride
Do we actually need rubber stampers only work together when the outcome favors them? I think we need only 10 parliamentarians. 10 wise MPs is far better than even 275 fools we have now. God saves Ghana oooooo. Think Tanks are ...

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WITH 50 STATES AND OVER 300 MILLION POPULATION HAS 400 CONGRESSMEN AND SENATORS IN BOTH CHAMBERS.
No way. Reduce the number of MP's to 120. Demarcate the country into 4 political squares/regions and create 40 constituents in each of the 4 squares making a total of 120 MP's only. We don't need that many MP's. It's a total ...

IEA has outlived its usefulness and must be shunned. It is now NDC body. Nonsense.
Why
How many congress men are in the US Congress? Whjat's the size and population of the US compared to Ghana?
What's the GDP comparison?
IEA, this is madness. You just sit down in your offices and make suggestions without counting the cost. 400 parliamentarians for what? The 275 in parliament are not making any impact in the socio-economic transformation of th ...

Those that are already in the parliament what are they doing for the nation. Please there are already enough clever thieves in the parliament so put a stop to new once.
Ghana is simply full of educated idiots!!
Are this IEA people serious at all? Are they only concerned about governance? What about the economic implications of having many people paid by the tax payer. At a time when it is clear that the number of parliamentary seats ...

No need to comment.....just give up on this democracy
What an insane proposition
As it stands now with NDC holding the majority in parliament. It simply means that if NPP wins the presidency and fails the legislative they must broke a deal for power sharing vice-versa.These big men are not all that stupid, ...

A vote of no confidence? I kind of agree..so maybe they want to up the number and increase their chances of keeping the majority. The people who have failed the Ghanaian populace however are those MPs and government propagand ...

i really find it difficult to understand some pple. looking at the current economy we are facing we dont need that.what we need is a good policy to help us curtail the inflation rate of this country
Do u people think before u talk. A population of 25 million. Ghana is not china or india
THIS IS STUPIDITY AT ITS BEST. EVEN THE US WITH A POPULATION OF OVER 300 MILLION DOES NOT HAVE UP TO 550 CONGRESS MEN. YOU WANT A COUNTRY WITH 24 MILLION TO HAVE 400 MPS. I AM NOT SURE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.
Now why would Ghana want to do this knowing full well it cannot afford to pay? whose stupid idea is this
how are you going to pay for them?
400 mps would cost the tax payers huge amount of money you stupid IEA.
Indeed, because their salaries & heavy perks are paid regularly while nurses, teachers, etc., have to go three or more months without pay!
Ghana should actually reduce the size of MPS to about twenty five.
Why do you want to increase the number to 400?
This suggestion/comment from a so called think-tank as IEA shows how shallow our supposed intellectuals think. Ghana's poppulation is less than 25 million people, India with a poppulation of over 1.3 billion has less than 600 ...

Please check your facts 40 seats were added, not 75.
This is the most stupid suggestion I have heard in recent times. I don't think we need more than 100 MP's if we will elect DCE's and empower the district assemblies to work. More MP's for what? Come on, don't spoil my evening ...

Another brains going WRONG.
Why not increase the number to Ghana's population so that all of us will have our share of the cake? Morons.
This is utter stupidity. This think tank doesn't think
IN FACT GHANA IS FULL OF STUPID INTELLECTUALS,THATS WHY WE CAN NEVER MOVE FORWARD.WHY SHOULD SOME ONE EXPECTED TO BE A REASONABLE BEING SAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS AT NO OTHER PLACE THAN PARLIAMENT AND NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT THE ...

I don't think we need more the 100 MPs in a small country like Ghana. They are a drain on the economy. Somebody tell what they have done the country apart from enriching themselves.
