Use of seat belt in cars must be compulsory and made into law...The police should not 'urge' drivers; the police should seek legal authority to back them to enforce it...where i live, it is compulsory. The police will arrest you if u, the driver, and your passengers have not buckled up...studies have proved that you are more likely to survive or incur minor injuries if you put on your seat belt...again, where i live, if i dont buckle up and im arrested, i will have to cough up $150...so let everybody buckle up...it saves lives

Great advice from MTTU, urging drivers to buckle up is common courtesy that's accorded to the driving public in any civilized society, too often some of us tend to beat up on ourselves unnecessarily.
I have lived in foreign countries where drivers were constantly reminded to buckle up, even though seat belt laws were in effect for many years, it's a matter of courtesy, and the notion that repetition is the best form of education.
In addition to seat belt law, the MTTU should implement another law requiring motorists to turn on their head lights when rain is falling, during foggy conditions, or situations where visibility is limited, automobiles with one functioning headlight at night also adds to road saftey issues.
Some of the issues raised here are very legitimate, since I've been in Ghana, I have had several people ask me to teach them how to drive, each time I would tell them to first get a driver's manual and learn the rules of the road before getting behind the wheel, and I never hear from them again.

How can DVLA register a car when it's biggest safety component is missing. So what happens to all the vehicles you are registering without seat belts prior to the September dead line. I totally supports Banana's comment. Make it a law and enforce it by arresting culprits instead of urging. We have a long way to go as the police might not effect any arrest by rather use it to collect their 1GHc daily illegal sales

I could not help but marvel at the assertion of pedestrians who claimed that they preferred to cross the George Bush Highway at any point rather than the pedestrian crossings that are often far away from their destinations.

If there is a Law saying you cant drive without wearing your seat belts why are the police warning drivers for. Why are they not arresting them instead of talking rubbish.
There is no Law saying you should wear a seat belts in Cars and lorries. The police should do things only under the Law.

I tell you what: after being fined twice each time 40 Euros (more than GHS 120 each time) for not using my seat belt - the FIRST thing I do these days before I start my car to fasten my seat belt.
And before I move the vehicle, I make sure my wife and children all have fastened the seat belts because I will have to pay the fined if stopped by the police.

That,I believe might have prompted these traffic officials to alert drivers on the importance of using the seat belt.
In Africa,as a whole, ignorance kills us too much. It's been a serious disease for us since time immemorial.
It should be always a must,to put on seat belt before you turn on your engine.
Check the passengers to make sure if they are also buckled up.
I THINK,IT SHOULD BE A LAW IN AFRICA,AS A WHOLE.
The officials should be charged first,to set them as scapegoats,so they would be compelled to enforced the law.
