I am not sure what the president is trying to accomplish here. Let it be known to all Ghanaians that the destruction of the second largest city in the country is not going to help national progress. Any economic growth in the Ashanti region adds to the growth of Ghana at large. The demise of Ashanti region detracts from the progress of the entire nation.
If Yammin is not qualified to be the deputy sports minister, what makes it prudent to re-assign him as a regional minister? Worst of all, why the second largest city of the nation? This shows lack of seriousness on the part of the president. National development should be devoid of politics, and, particularly, of political retributions or favors. This single mis-step by president Mahama strongly supports the need for regional self-government.
Yammin cannot do any good thing for the region. He is not smart or competent enough. Being a party member is not good enough reason to assign him as the Ashanti regional minister. Let regional, district and city governments be elective and not appointive. These regions can better judge who would help their various governments deliver for the people. This way, the national government would have less to mis-manage.
Yammin is not the right person for the Ashanti region and should not be made the regional minister. The citizens in the region should resist this decision. Yammin should not be welcomed in the region. Atrocious decision, Mr. President.
