Think of these reckless and corrupt politicians we have in Ghana. The amount that will be earn marked for the project, only two percent will be used. The rest will go to the dirty pockets of these useless and unperformed NDC government officials. I am that will happen and expect serious nuclear accidents. I find it very irresponsible when 'experts' use unqualified comparisons to come to such conclusions. France has more nuclear energy 'stations' than any western European country and yet is not the strongest economy in Europe. Germany has shut down a number of its nuclear setups and is in the process of doing away with those remaining and yet is the strongest economy in Europe. Germany is now one of the leading producers and users of solar energy. Sure, nuclear isotopes are needed in medicine but that does not mean that every country in the world should produce its own isotopes. I find the arguments of the 'expert' very weak. There are many safer alternative sources of energy. First, Ghana should make what it has now work properly, then let Ghana tap into alternative energy sources first and when that is still not enough, then and only then should we consider nuclear energy. Talk to countries (Germany, Russia, Japan and the US) who have had serious accidents and you will think again. Just take a trip to the numerous test sites of France and the US in the Pacific and other oceans and see the devastation before you advocate for such a "solution". Will Ghana be in a position to produce the large quantities of potassium iodide that will be needed in case of a nuclear meltdown? What will you do in time of a nuclear emergency - run - where? Do you have trained personnel and equipment to deal with such an emergency? Some government and private buildings have either burnt down or collapsed, people have died, there have been numerous floods leading to loss of life, how well have our emergency services performed in any of those cases? A nuclear meltdown is a thousand times more catastrophic than any of those mentioned, how prepared will we be to deal with it? Ghana needs a real discussion with all experts and not just listen to one and take action.

It looks like the issue of Ghana's underdevelopment is compared to that of a child that refuses locomotion. China is taking over U.S. as the most financial power by next year. I am of the view that Germany has not been telling the world the truth about her power generation activities, which mostly remain nuclear. 75 percent of South Korea's electricity is from nuclear sources and that enable her to produce machinery for various industries. I am unaware if Germany has a solar steel smelter. On human resource for the nuclear sector the Kwabenya nuclear project has been there for years and have produced a lot of specialist for all the aspects of the nuclear industry.
I think that the U.S. thought that building a hydroelectricity power station on the River Congo will submerge the whole of Central Africa the reason why they did not build a single dam on the Congo.
Those who are against Ghana's nuclear enhancement are like a child who fear locomotion and a person who does not want to drink water because it got someone suffocated.

Don't even go there, Dr. sogbadji. Not with our attitude of culture of low maintenance, coupled with poor education. We should rely principally upon photovoltaic energy in providing electricity..
Can someone just inform this learned doctor that enough raw energy reaches Earth from the sun in one hour to equal all the energy used by the entire world in a full year?
We can kiss dumsor-dumsor goodbye if install just two new rooftop photovoltaic systems every hour like Bangladesh is currently doing.
We shouldn't come up with this nuclear energy nonsense, at a time in both West & East Africa, solar-electric cells are beginning what is widely predicted to be a period of explosive growth.
The ever falling cost of solar should mean that every part of Ghana should have access to electricity, skipping over traditional power grids and going straight to solar.
Mahama's administration should seriously enforce net-metering policy, which would allow residents to install rooftop PV systems and feed electricity back into the national grid. I foresee our schools, churches, and mosques with
PV rooftops generating their own electricity day and night.
We should also take a hard look at wind farms as a way to generate electricity. The cost of wind energy is likewise plummeting. It is insane at this stage to consider nuclear energy production as solving our energy crisis.
