This is political patronage at the ministry. How can the minister justify why there are no Economists among the top echelons of the ministry? No doubt the economy is in a mess.

Look at what the Chinese did to Ghana with the $3 billion loan. They know that they are dealing with people with no knowledge of deep finances and can hoodwink them with some fine prints. Ghana under this clueless government is force to pay interest on the $3 billion instead on the $600 million received from the Chinese. What nation on this planet will accept this foolishness other than Ghana under NDC?

When would you render your stewardship to Ghanaians. As Ghana´s longest serving finance minister you had the best opportunity to make an impact. Render your stewardship.

The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has no Eastern Regional headoffice. I don´t believe that the BOG has accurate data of the economic activity in the at least 12 Akyem districts which make up more than half the population on the region. The GDP and GNI of these Akyem districts are very high. They stem from:

Gold mining
Diamond mining
Cocoa
Oil Palm (the largest in West Africa)
Timber
Software development
etc

The money supply and capital in the at least 12 Akyem districts are wholly inadequate. BOG must remove impediments to the setting up of rural banks in these districts and encourage ADB and GCB to open branches in these districts.

The government must further ensure that wholly owned Ghanaian banks, including rural banks, get at least 80% of the banking revenue.

Finanace and Economic ministry is run by Economists and the Finance handle by Finance and Economists guys. The work of an accountant is five fold: recording,analyzing, interpreting the records, transferring the records into the general ledger and Balance sheet and reporting. Accountants are good but think differently when it comes to economics. Economist, if Keysian, believes in spending to stimulate the economy and creating jobs in the process. On the other hand if you have an economist who thinks of Supply or market economy, then you should expect pay as you go. In other words, in a simple layman's term, you spend as and when you have it and live within your means. Less borrowing by government and less spending, and allow the market to determine the course of thew economy. The latter most econmists will tell you is not good for a country like ghana's. We need a mixed bag. by the way, tell the president cut down on his frivilous travels and save some pesewas for mother Ghana. The 2nd tourist president after Kufour, since the creation of Nkrumah's Ghana. But he and Kufour are friends; don't you know!! unbelievable. If you have a man who by history of accident found himself running the country thru de'facto means, oops! Excuse me, the demise of the former President, he must seek advice from men who have run the Ministry before. How do you put five top men at an Economic & Finance ministry to be all accountants? "You are the friends you keep," so goes the saying Oman Ghana. Taxing the citizens 17.5 VAT from saving in the banks? Where do you expect Ghanaians to keep their moneys? Homes and under their beds. What happens to country's economy? You care to know: dry and starved of liquidity and cash-flow. Mr president, listen to reason from the men who know and take credit for the success'. That is what leaders do and not lead from behind. Ghanaians are tired of excessive taxes while mining companies refuse to pay their fair share of tax to the government of Ghana because the men in charge is weak and fickle. Taxing Ghanaians for banking their moneys and deposits? NDC is bereft of any good ideas and they must be voted out. Fellow Ghanaians, lets give the United Loyal Opposition Party led by a safe pair of hands from the Nana Akuffo and his team a chance. He is the man of the moment and honest too. Akuffo Addo is not a tribalist nor is he greedy as far as his record in Ghana politics go. Help Nana to save Ghana from demolition by this know it all NDC group who have nothing to offer Ghana any more. Drive them out of the Flag Staff house and the Osu Castle come 2016. We Need change. He is the same guy who together with rawlings, tsikatas, ahwois and the green book hoodlums ran Ghana aground and then ran to seek green pastures in the west.

The problems in Ghana are now beyond economic theories.

The whole system of government need to be scrapped, the constitution drawn by rawlings and his hand picked friends need to be trashed.

We have to start over, after 58 years of so-called independence the present system had awefully failed us and we have to try different system of true democracy. What we have now is no democracy - where one person, the president appoint almost everyone except only farmers and market women to every position in the country.

This super centralized system which encourages corruption also breeds nepotism, tribalism, partyism, cronyism and discourages hard work, competence, integrity and kills innovation; these are the root causes of the problems we have today.

Not until the people are allowed to elect their own regional ministers, DCEs, and district assembly members, who will serve as watch dogs against abuse of power by the executive branch the virtue of accountability and its accompanying responsibilities will continue to elude us and Ghana will never see the light of progress.

Bring all the best minds in the world to govern Ghana and we will still surely fail if the corrupt system of government we have in place is not discarded.

Dr Botchwey is pointing out issues we know already are the causes of the faltering economy without necessarily giving answers. Accountants at the helm of affairs in the ministry of finance fine, but is the same NDC finance and economic advisors including Dr Botchwey who advised Prez Mahama on these accountants appointees except the director who already work in the ministry. How could the whole finance and economic planning ministry would not have competent economists? Come hear pastors praying for God to intervene in the Cedi depreciation, did angels study economics in heaven to be sent down?

Dr Botchwey during PAMSCAD PNDC to when NDC left us sometime 2001 in highly indebtedness brought about policies that have had repercussions on us we could not recover in anyway. Serving as longest finance minister he was only good at increasing fuel prices without any better planning for future energy, food security, social services, etc. How did he contain inflation, unemployment, interest rates, etc? Is he now advising on clearing his mess?
We hail these leaders as great, meanwhile after the only good leadership of Kwame Nkrumah who again?

As long as we tap into the resources of both the diaspora and home i am confident there is no problem we cant fix or sustainable solution we can not implement to give our people a better standard and future . Omanhene kwasea pepeni Mahama in his small-mindedness, tribalism saturated with mistrust and hate for the Akans fueled by the ayigbe treachery has appointed incompetent fools who would collapse any economy be it the USA , Germany , Japan or Canada . In fact the caliber of his favorites are so weak i doubt they could manage even a roadside chop bar for week successfully talk less an economy of 25 million strong. NDC's experiment with leadership from the north will cost them dearly as Ghanians will never again trust a northerner no matter which party fields them and they will be lucky if the party doesnt totally disintegrate into nothingness . The basic principle of democracy is to enable the active participation of the majority thus tapping into the potentials of the majority and secures the unity and progress of the people , pepeni has deviously managed to sideline the influence of the Akans and the majority of all Ghanians so is in effect and illegitimate govt that's only focused on robbing and stealing , to hell with everything else as he simply doesn't care about what he knows doesn't belong to him . He is a traitor and no indemnity clause should save him from his reckless selfishness and corruption but should be made to answer and be punished adequately either through the courts or lynching him in the streets. yes its time for a bloody uprising or war to rid us of this menace forever .
