  Dr you are right but one party comes to power and suppresses those who are the potential to favor theirs cronies to put them in the position and another party comes and weeds the opponent's cronies and groom their own and the circle continues. For political reasons some good officers were not promoted and asked to go home cutting short their military dreams. All the parties that came to power are guilty of these and the worse the would happen it there should be a change. Dr allow it to be so because some military officers have buried their heads in politics than even the politicians back biting their colleagues when time of appointment is near

  The appointment of security heads by the president make the public believe that those heads are align to the political party in office so this affect the neutrality of the security services and even in situations when they try to be neutral, the public find it difficult seeing that. The best way to go is by merit.

  How can government control the police or army without heading it. Nobody in the police or army can be above a government appointee.
  Government is not John Mahama or NDC it that group of people who heads the most powerful departments in ghana. These people are what we call government. Every government heads the police and the army, how can they call themself government without heading and leading in all offices in the country. Political appointment, Dansu.

  Dear Prof Danso, I beg to differ on this. I cannot imagine Gbevlo Lartey remaining as the NSC under an NPP government or Gen Anyidoho remaining as the Army commander under an NPP government. Let us get real because in Ghana today, even the teaching profession and the ministry of foreign affairs, and for that matter every other government institution is politicized. There is not a single public entity in Ghana that is politically neutral. So please let us be real in some of our thinking. Left to me, a government should come in with a full army of officials and leave with all of them so that nobody could sabotage a new or existing government. That is the best way.

Every single one of these big brain big mouth leaders are timid and only want quick financial and social gratification.
  
  I think such a suggestion should be implemented right along with the election of all city officials...Mayors, DCE's, Regional Police Chiefs etc.

  Politicising the appointment of top security men always compromises our ability to arrest and prosecute our politicians, MPS and CEOS, If our country will make progress where by rule of law is held in a high esteem then an independent body must appoint our top security men and women. Ghana must be seen as working for everybody and not for a few minority who thinks Ghana belongs to them. We must not wait for Boko Harm to strike
