Nonsense, this kind of primitives laws and rules must not stand. I respect culture, but somebody's culture should not stop another person's freedom of speech, movement or expression. Every land, first of all is the Lord's, secondly the government has control on all lands. The government must stop this stupidity. These chiefs and Kings should rather focus their mind on developments and ideas that develops and create jobs for the youth and everyone. Think 21 century.

Hi
It is amazing to note that whilst Ghanaians decry moral decadence and the adoption of "foreign" cultures, they would be the first to criticize measures to promote their own culture. A brief respite from the assault on our peace of mind even in the form of a traditional requirement is welcome news.
On your comment about human rights, I'm almost certain you have no inkling what the constitution says about the authority of chiefs and other traditional authorities. Please read a bit before you subject us to your limited point of view next time.

What this is all about is honoring pagan dieties. Why should pagan dieties be honored above the Great I Am and Allah? If these false gods do not like noise, that is too bad. God is to be praised at all times.

With the vast majority professing to be Christians or Muslims, how is it that the authorities are quenching Christians and Muslims in order to appease traditionalists? Is traditional religion the preferred religion of Ghana?

Indeed Ghana is a secular state hence in consonance with the law, all religious beliefs and traditions may be practiced. Now, I don't believe in one of the deities you believe should be honored above the supposed pagan deities. Should I therefore be up in arms to ensure that that "deity" is not worshiped anywhere near me?
The culture of a people is linked to their self-worth. That you believe it is right to trample upon others because they do not hold the same beliefs as you leaves me wondering what it is at all you learn from the Holy book you read.

It appears customary laws stronger and more effective than government environmental policies. Many people have paid deaf ears to government regulation against noise making, but obeying the traditional laws.

It appears our ancestors couched our environmental protection in cultural taboos. Examples are: (1) NOISE -OSHA standards were enacted after Western doctors tested and found that normal hearing, blood pressure, pulse of people in African were comparable to 10 to 20 year YOUNGER people in the West. The attributed this physiological anomaly to NOISE EXPOSURE, and came up with OSHA.
(2)DEFORESTATION -In order NOT to disturb the peace and safety of the god and its children in certain forests, It was taboo to cut trees in those forests. Now the WHOLE WORLD is FIGHTING DEFORESTATION TO REIN IN CARBON DIOXIDE, the chief cause of global warming.
(3)WATER BODIES -In order NOT to "trample" the river god and its children, it was taboo to farm close to the river bank. Now Science has taught us that farming close to the river bank silts and dries up the river.
Yes we can be "Born Again", but we should not DISMISS THE WISDOM OF OUR ANCESTORS. GHANA IS TOOOOO NOISY!!! MANY GHANAIANS SLEEP ON THE JOB!!
