The number of court houses and judges in Ghana are inadequate. The population has ballooned and changes have to be made. The same can be said of the number of police officers and the number of penitentiaries. On a visit to a number of court houses around the country I found the Ghana flag and the Ghana Coat of Arms (Seal) absent. This must change.
Good policing is needed in order for companies to operate effectively. How many detectives has the Ghana police service got and to what extent do they pursue cases? Too many people are being robbed of their toil and sweat. It is important that we increas the police-population ratio.
In many areas especially in the at least 12 Akyem districts which make up more than half of the population of the Eastern Region the police is out of reach but the chiefs have been doing their best in ensuring that law and order prevail in these areas.
Looking at salary levels or the per capita income it is apparent that a sizable proportion of the population cannot afford good legal services. The government must therefore provide some subsidies in this regard lest our republic turn into an oligarchy.
Judges deserve good salaries but what would a judge consider virtuous?? Judges must bear in mind that their salaries cannot be more than the productivity of the general public. They must take the GNI per capita of Ghana into account.
How can judges help increase the GNI and GDP of Ghana?
Judges must close at 5pm and must be at work by 8.

These judges will never stop collecting bribes from litigants and criminals unless the supreme court sets an example by trying Atuguba and other s.c. judges who collected bribes from Mahama and his NDC. It is only when these corrupt SC Judges have been jailed that we may begin to have confidence in the judiciary. If not judgement in favour of the highest bidder will continue until Boko haram is established in Ghana to abduct and sell all corrupt judges.

The CJ of Ghana's Supreme Court is as clueless as the heads of other government institutions but it is not funny because the courts are mandated to interpret the laws written by a bunch of no good members of parliament who come to bear with their built-in party and tribal loyalties.
As head of the courts, her priority should be the hiring and placement of qualified but wise and principled legal minds on court benches and not selection by political party affiliation. The sad truth is that the Supreme Court has failed to reprimand most of the judges on the lower courts for their rulings that became foundation for judgment debts Ghana holds now. It is the Supreme Court that had to be cajoled into realizing that most of the contracts were invalid because they lacked parliamentary approval. It is also true some cases had gone against the government when those who brought the cases to court did not have legal standing. While judges are not to help state prosecutors with prosecution or defense of the nation, astute legal minds do know how to use discretionary powers to correct counsel to achieve fairness in courts as promised to all. For when the state representatives have not done their due diligence a judge has the power to see to it that justice is being served and must not allow parties to be denied a fair adjudication because of lazy and unprepared counsel.

I am glad you are aware that the health of our judicial system has worsened under your watch all the ills you have mentioned in your speech have reached alarming proportions and you have shown no intention of addressing them soon. The judiciary now is for the highest bidder and the ordinary people are at the mercy of the judges as they are helpless against the money bags in our society who go on the airwaves to boast of their exploits of manipulating the system to their advantage.
