*The president vented his anger at the Ashantis, and he better MAN-UP to own that statement.* If he doesn’t know that by now, then I suggest to him that “political speeches are like locating business or real estate: It’s about location, location, location: So, Kofi Moshie, watch WHAT you say and WHERE!!

I've also heard an NPP top official once said the same in Washington, DC, USA: He said "even if the NPP tars all the roads in the Volta Region with gold, the Ewes would still vote for the NDC.” This means both major parties have their "strongholds"—Ashantis for NPP and Ewes for the NDC—and there isn't anything wrong with that. All over the world, every political party has its own "home base or stronghold" of supporters, either based on ideology, ethnicity (tribalism in Ghana) and on simple personalities.

I actually believe that Ashantis normally tell it like it is, how they feel under the particular government rather than whether the person is one of their own or not. By the way, the complaints are all over the place now, people are just not happy with Mahama's policies. Mahama speaks at events as an NDC rather than as a president. There is no way Obama would go to say Oklahoma and talk like this -- he uses every occasion to talk to the nation and not to localities.

The President's advisors should have known that what he said could be open to many interpretations depending on one' s politics. The man is a tribal bigot and an Akan hater who cannot appreciate that but for the 600,000 votes he received from Ashantis he would not be President today !!! It serves those Ashantis right to have turned their backs on their fellow Akan and and given power to a tribal bigot who hates and disrespects Akans more than anything in the world. Why some have to sweat to pay school fees others are still being taken care off. I'm not tribalistic, but I think we should make sure we enshrine it in our constitution that any candidate for presidency must be someone who through academics excelled and received scholarship or paid his fees. This means if Ghana took care of your education without academic merit, you can't be president of Ghana. The highest you could go is becoming vice or secretary of state.

He was referring to his political opponents, not Ashantis, as those who would never appreciate it even if the Administration paved the roads with gold.

Unless the critics of that statement accept tacitly that the NPP is synonymous with Ashanti, or Kumasi, they have no reason to claim that statement as ethnically offensive to Ashantis. He therefore owes no one apologies.

It is also natural that the President would use a proverb most familiar in the Region. That does not mean we should extrapolate his comment to apply to Ashantis.

It seems the very people who are criticizing the President on that comment have been psychologically ingrained to hear and see every issue with tribal and ethnic lenses.

Besides, those folks complaining about the comment hardly condemned the blatantly bigoted "yen Akanfuor de.." Comment by Nana Akufo-Addo and the genocidal entreaties from Ken Agyapong to have members of other Tribes in Ashanti butchered.

We have to show maturity in Democracy to eschew Tribal or Ethnic Politics in Ghana.

MY GREATEST CONCERN IS: the president visited some regions before the Ashanti Region. Why didnt he say what he said in the other regions? Are the other regions being appreciative or those are not NPP strong holds?

The truth of the matter is ashanti/akan people think they are supper people and they own Gh. Mahama has it right; they won’t get satisfied unless it is from them. Kumasi pre-JJ and Kumasi post-JJ revo are two different cities. JJ used the entire national treasury to rebuild the decaying city & region, but still he is the number one enemy of these primitive people. He didn't build Ho; he didn't build his native Keta, a city now engulfed by the sea. Mahama got it right, he can cover all the roads & streets in AR with gold, they wont get satisfied. He can even bring the Atlantic Ocean to Kumasi and build a major harbor there; they won’t get satisfied unless you give then the presidency of Gh. These people are primitive with primitive people and want to live in primitive age of 21st century before Jesus Christ.
