The problem is a player has a chance of been called into the Black Stars if he is playing his football in Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Sudan just to name a few and add on England, France, Italy or Norway that is why we are always looking so what is the point to stay in local league. Black Star goalkeeper left the local league and became a bench warmer in South Africa and we still consider him No.1
ET has a point but I disagree with him on this "Those days, they were playing English league all right, but our stadia was always full because the boys were playing very well,” ***ET
The stadia was full because we did not means to watch English as we have now.

NO REFORMS IN THE LEAGUE. PLAYERS MONTHLY SALARIES ARE WEAK. NO INSURANCE, NO RETIREMENT INVESTMNTS. THE PLAYER EXODUS IS TOO HIGH. PLAYERS LIKE MAHATMA OTOO, GIDEON BAAH, ANTWI IN EGYPT, ADJEI, ASANTE ETC IN CONGO, ARE ALL SOJOURNING IN FOREIGN LANDS AND BARELY PRODUCING. HAD THEY BEEN IN GH. THESE CLUBS WILL MAKE HUGE IMPACTS IN AFRICA. OUR CHAN TEAMS WILL GO TO TOURNAMNTS AND WIN TROPHIES. WE WILL HAVE BETTER LOCAL PLAYERS FOR OUR NATIONAL TEAMS. INSTEAD, AA IS HAVING TO RELY ON PLAYERS FROM LOWER DIVISION CLUBS OUTSIDE GH....MEANWHILE, NYANTAKYI IS SITTING THERE LIKE AN OWL, WATCHING....IDIOT!
EVEN BRASIL HD TO MAKE AMENDMENTS TO ITS LOCAL LEAGUE TO KEEP PLAYERS AT HOME.

Hon. E.T Mensah its good you've expressed your concern based on few football fans that travel length and breath within the country to watch and cheer their teams up in varoius stadia as compared to the prevoius years when you were the minister of Youth and Sports. I see the problem to be more economic than non-competitiveness you're basing the facts. Have you asked your self how many Ghanaians at present have extra in their pockets to travel or go to the stadium to watch football games? They wish they could do that but they simply do not have the means hence they'll stay home and watch English league on TV with less or no cost. If the economic situation in the county improves fans will be there in their numbers to cheer their teams up and I believe that'll bring the competitiveness you're worried about.

You and your friends (P)NDC have been in charge of the country for 25 years out of her 57 years. It is not therefore enough and fair to say that the local league is weak and end there. What did you do to ensure that the league remained strong and entertaining? Nobody thinks about tomorrow. You are even lucky to have a league going on that you can call weak. What has happened to TRACK and FIELD events in Ghana today? I don't want to mention other sporting events. I grew up at Osu, and used to go to the Accra sports stadium as a teenager in the late 70s and early 80s to watch BOXING, TABLE TENNIS, LAWN TENNIS FOOTBALL (ACADEMICALS) ETC. I'm not sure if inter-regionals sporting events still takes place in Ghana. All this have died out. If this was happening before 1979 and it is no longer there, are we moving forward or we are moving backwards? If you and your government have managed the affairs of GHANA for 25 years, which is more that any government have had the chance to do, then I'm afraid to say that whatever has happened to any sporting event including football today in GHANA is your fault without any doubt.

ADUSEI AND LAWRENCE LARTEY, I STRONGLY AGREE. THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS AND THOSE FROM THE ACADEMY, BY GFA LAW, SHOULD PLAY IN THE LOCAL LEAGUE FOR AT LEAST 3 SEASONS BEFORE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO SIGN OVERSEAS CONTRACTS.

secondly, Even our local players who live the country don't do well outside
with European league being shown on channels affordable to people now i think we need to change the way we brand our league.Let forget about politics things need to change in the local league. in those days a Liberia team cannot eliminate kotoko in African cup.

The only solution to the sorry state of the ghana league is to control the mass exodus of players to unenviable leagues like india, vietnam, etc...and even to europe and other african countries...every footballer wants fame and the attendant riches that come with it...i'm not against that...but there must be a rule to control the exodus, especially players from the football academies...they and others must play in the local league for at least two years before receiving their clearance to play outside ghana...they are groomed and trained in ghana and so they must serve the country before they embark on any pro career...the only way to serve is to play in the local league so ghanaians can benefit by watching them play...they can also improve the competitiveness of the local league by their participation...the sending of academy players directly to foreign teams must be stopped...the reason why ghanaian teams in 70s and 80s-kotoko, hearts, olympics and hasaacas and even dwarfs went far and conquered in club competitions was that our players stayed home...another benefit will be gate proceeds will increase because more fans will go and watch the local league instead of going to watch english league on tv...
