It is heartening to hear that Direct Aid is involved in this noble task. There is nothing better in the development of the next generation than Education. This is the greatest asset society could offer to the youth. As for the general perception that "...Islam does not have interest in promoting education,..." those who hold such misguided opinions do not know much about Islam. One of the Key areas of success in Islamic Civilisation has been due to Education. The Prophet Muhammad [saw] emphasised that "Acquisition of Knowledge is obligatory for both boys and girls." In another statement he said that :' Seek Education even if you have to go to China!" Scholars explain that he was not merely talking about geographical China as such but he meant 'where ever knowledge is, a Muslim should pursue it'. Yes, it is a tragedy that we have people claiming to be 'pious, learned' Muslims who will bar females from schools! May God forgive such souls. My only plea is that Direct Aid should ensure that the quality of education given is of high calibre because Islam does not countenance mediocrity!. High standards, both spiritually and materially, are always the hallmarks of Islamic Civilisation. The constant encouragement from both the Qur'an and the Hadith to pursue Ihsan [Excellence, Perfection] should be the guide. May God Bless this project and the people involved. Amen
