When other politicians such as Dr Kufuor, the former Defence Minister won a huge libel damages against a newspaper in the court, did he complain?
I do not really understand Prof Kwame Karikari, unless he is accusing the judiciary of threatening press freedom. If that is the case, then he should say so rather than blame politicians. In any case, there some very bad media houses in Ghana that defame some politicians and should be able to defend themselves in court if what they publish about politicans are part of press freedom under the 1992 Constitution.

When your house is not affected by the road construction, you certainly praise the constructing firm of haven done a great job. Who told this man of the existence of absolute freedom? Is the professor saying when the papers come out with their ridiculous and slanderous lies, we should let 'em getaway with it? Freedom of the press does not mean freedom to intentionally lie to injure and damage ones image. If anything, they should be made to pay triple damages since their lies influences all who buy to read or hear their f....king nonsense. The pen was made for truth, recording and to reason, not for lying in the name of freedom. Master, serial callers are paid employees that are good at talking bull and you don't have to listen to them if you careless but, the papers are in the business to SELL and make profit. So if you sell me lies, I have the right to sue your freaking business. How would you like a pharmacist to sell you what he advertises as a pain killer when he/she knows the medicine is actually chalk?

Listen to another intellectually lazy and unintelligent fool Prof Karikari!. These people still believe that they can hide behind their so called qualifications to spew nonsense to Ghanaians. Why is it that our Ghanaian intellectuals cannot apply common sense in their daily lives. This so called journalism and communication expert is now blaming the courts for doing their work. Has this so called professor really checked the records on libel and court outcomes before making his ignorant claims? Your type of thinking professor Karikari is really alarming. I can now see why and how your students who call themselves journalists and in the media houses behave. The think narrowly and unintelligently like you, Prof. Karikari.

"Karikari" just he accepts the misspelling of his name by the British, would like so-called journalists to continue impugning the integrity of others, use vulgar even profane language in reporting national news etc and go scot-free! Hell no, freedom is not free. It comes with heavy costs.

Problem,I have great difficulty understanding the concern and 'fear' being expressed by this good old Professor! Why does he want to defend one type of freedom[that of the press] at the expense of that of the individuals, not to be made the target of hate and public ridicule,by irresponsible journalists and newspapers who publish fabricated and outrageous stories about them?
I am yet to read about any condemnation,on his part, about the blasphemous stories/discussions certain 'interest groups' and their friends in the media put out against the Otumfuo only acouple of months ago! I heard the Nsumankwaahene say that the Palace had made a formal complaint to the NMC,but what has Kabral Amihere`s outfit been able to do about it? In any case,is it the perogative of Prof. Kakari to determine for aggrieved individuals, the remedies they should resort to restore their dented reputations?
Personally, I believe Aseidu Nketia`s introduction of the jargon,'Kwasibi nti' is an approprite wake-up warning to those journalists and media houses who operate under the false belief that they are 'untouchable',and are free to do as they please.

Just as they used the EC and SC to stifle the election results and a bogus verdict, the NDC is using the judiciary once more to suppress the truth. NDC's scribe Johnson Asiedu Nketia has the guts to write: "Kwasia bi Nti" in front of his house built through Bui Dam booty.
NDC accused ex-Prez. Kuffour's son for acquiring bank loan to purchase Mr. Saud's uncompleted hotel project. The news spread like fire around the world. That Hotel was tagged: "Hotel Waa waa" while Rawlings went about country calling Kuffour himself a thief.
Now some Ghanaians will have themselves to be blamed for listening to NDC's lies and vile propaganda. Now after everything, people are suffering while a few esp. in govt. are enjoying life. Yet John Mahama says Ghana's economic situation is better that ever before.
NPP scrapped the criminal libel law, allowing the needed freedom that Ghana Press/Media needed to operate. The NDC can't stand the heat and are using "buga-buga" tactics to suppress the truth. Hmmm! They using all foul means to foist their will on Ghanaians. The suffering is unbearable as things continue to fall apart for Ghanaians.
It's time to boot out the incompetent and "Sasabonsam" party out of power before they destroy everything. The lies and propaganda won't help bring about the needed prosperity. NDC can really see "Red" in their faces; they know that they have no chance in 2016 that's why they're so desperate to frighten the media. Vote NDC out of power before it's too late!
