Sethoo, no one should be above the law including the President. For this reason if the permitted speed limit on the road is 60 miles per hour, then the President must comply with it. In fact, the President must set good example by showing leadership in obeying the laws of the state. That is what is expected of him and required by the Constitution.
The problem in Ghana is that, the laws, rules and regulations are not enforced by the authorities and the citizens also do not comply with them. Last but not the least, politicians, the rich and powerful are above the law, are authority to themselves and unaccountable to anyone.
Here in the UK, ministers, MPs, judges and senior police officer are stopped and arrested, charged and prosecuted for breaking speed limits. In fact, a former Chief Constable of the Cambridgeshire Police resigned after he was stopped by his own (junior)police officers for over speeding. Here the law is no respecter of persons.

The cop approaches the car and says, "It's been a long day and my tour is almost over, so if you can give me a good excuse for your behavior, I'll let you go."
The guy thinks for a few seconds and then says, "My wife ran away with a cop about a week ago. I thought you might be that officer trying to give her back!"

Rules are rules and laws are laws. It looks like in Ghana we have one rule and law for the downtrodden and anotherr set for the so called 'big shot'. Ministers should be setting good examples for the citizens to follow. In any case what is the essence of these convoys? Can't a minister visit a project or gop to his office escorted by a single police dispatch rider? Traffic regulations do not work in Ghana. The traffic police should educate and apprehend anyone who uses the siren for wrongful purpose. People should be made aware that it is only the emergency services who are allowed to use sirens on the roads.

Presidential and Vice Presidential convoys are ok, but there is everything wrong with othe politicians who put on their hazard lights and speed through traffic in wrong lanes, forcing other cars to swerve aside for them. It is lawless and must be stopped. If we all pu on our hazard lights and drive that way there will be nothing but confusion on our roads. Those we elect must respect the laws of the land and stop seeing themselves as gods in our midst.

The incidence that concerns me is the convoy that comes in the opposite direction of traffic. They always have a dispatch rider leading the way pushing drivers to move over.
It amazes me how stupid this action is and how many innocent lives are put at risk just because some dumb politician needs to get somewhere in a hurry.
I recently noticed that an international gospel musician was being sped down one of our highways in the opposite direction of traffic and being led by a dispatch rider. He recorded it and put it up on his instagram. He was going to a radio station for an interview......
Try that nonsense in his country and see how quickly they throw your ass in jail. But we are in Ghana so its ok right?

I recently visited home and our drivers are increasingly becoming lawless. What is really causing the breakdown of law and order in Ghana? Everything seems to get worse and the danger is no one seems to care. Drivers, especially the private owned cars always have their hazard lights on and drive carelessly as if there is some important personality on board or an emergency. Surely empty barrels make the most noise. Ghanaians are truly sick and we need mental checkup.
