Everyone with a problem should be able to come up with at least one solution to the problem. No solution as an answer is not acceptable.

The (Bank of Ghana) BOG must ensure that foreign currencies are supplied to only Ghanaian importers of foreign goods. These must not fall into the hands of foreigners operating in Ghana who earn cedis but who would want to transfer funds to their shareholders in dollars.

Ghana has a market economy. Ghana is not an OECD country. Prices of goods and services in Ghana must be determined by demand and supply.

There is supply of certain currencies but absolutely no demand for those currencies. What should be the value of these currencies? These currencies include Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Swiss Franc, Danish krone, Swedish krona, Norwegian Krone. Swift transfers to Ghana in these currencies must be rejected. All EU countries must transfer or bring to Ghana only Euros.

The global oversupply of United States dollars is disturbing.

On the contrary there is demand for chinese Yuan but there is no supply in Ghana.

We must not forget that the role of currency is to facilitate the exchange of goods and services. That is commodity-Money-Commodity (C-M-C)

It would be understood that Bawumia is politically bias and will pluck difficulties which were the making of the Kuffour government to score cheap political points because it is still persisting and will naturally take time to remedy but what is Kofi's motive for agreeing with Bawumia.

Instead of Bawumiah addressing the issues in a dispassionate way he is twisting present difficulties for political expediency when when in government, they were abject failure with corruption as their clarion call.

Bawumia is a pseudo economics with a shallow understanding of economic principles.He was a failure as a deputy at the bank of Ghana and has no outstanding economic resume to his credit.

Why are you so naïve of a person? By the way do you want the poor to be given hand-outs rather than securing a gainful employment when markets and investors are operating successfully in the country? The fact that Dr. Bawumiah mentioned about investors is not solely foreign but rather Ghanaian entrepreneurs who have the resources to expand their businesses and increase job creation for job seekers.

Let is be clear to you that governments do not create jobs but rather create conducive environment for the private sector to take the opportunity to create jobs. When there are private sector jobs, the government gains from payroll taxes, direct corporate taxes, social security taxes build-up and most importantly, business oriented individuals tend to invest in those companies when they go into public (I mean when their companies are listed in the stock market). Again government turn to earn from capital investment from the investors. Start to think outside the box than what Dr. Kwabena Agyei said, NDC have brain-dead voters who will for ever vote NDC because they are fools.

Things that drive away investors from a country are: Irresponsible threats like- All die be die and the unwillingness to accept electoral defeat. All these two incidents took place in Ghana -during our recent electioneering campaign and the subsequent declaration of the winner- and have had a devastating effect on our economy. During the US elections in 2000, between George Bush and Albert Gore, the obvious winner was Gore but it was given by thievery to George Bush. Al Gore could have pursued it to the Supreme Court but he didn't. He placed the economic stability and peace of his country above his personal interest.
Unfortunately, that was not so in Ghana. Egomaniacs like Akuffo Addo and his NPP cohorts could care less what happened to Ghana's economic stability and peace. By their irresponsible threats of 'All die be die' and the subsequent attempts to get the Supreme Court to overturn the results-a mess that lasted for about 3 months-they succeeded in driving away investors who feared a repeat of what happened in Ivory Coast, in Ghana too.
Today these same irresponsible actors are parading the streets of Ghana with accusing fingers pointing in the President's direction, as the one to blame for the country's economic woes.
Bawumia and his good friend Otabil should know and understand that,Ghanaians do not need an Astro-Economist like Bawumia to understand what caused our present crisis. The blame can be squarely placed on the head on the NPP and all their bought and paid for Pastors.

Bawumia says “if for whatever reason the value of the cedi declines (e.g. because of high inflation)...” So what are the other examples that can cause the value of a currency to fall? The answer is simple demand and supply. Ghanaians want everything aburokyire (imports and travel abroad even for silly things as birthdays). Such foreign consumption maintains high dollar demand and high cedi supply (i.e. low cedi value or depreciation). As such, holding of foreign currency, for instance the dollar, is not just a consequence or reaction whereby Ghanaians seek value refuge in the dollar). Holding of the dollar is also a causation that leads to cedi depreciation.
Bawumia says inflation causes the cedi to depreciate, hence the flight to refuge in the dollar. Bawumia is not saying what underlies depreciation. The fundamental cause of depreciation of a currency is LACK OF PRODUCTIVITY side by side with FOREIGN CONSUMPTION or NET IMPORTATION (aburokkyire-mania)..

Government has intervened to ban transactions in dollars. People like Bawumia keep saying that even if dollar transaction is banned and transactions are made in cedis but pegged on dollar equivalent, the ban on dollar transactions is useless. This manure! Dollarization does not mean people merely holding dollars (savings) as anti cedi inflation measure. It means carrying out transactions in dollars – actually buying and selling in dollars like some businesses do (hotels, stores, landlords etc.). This is what the government has taken measures to address, and it should ease up the demand for the dollar.
Back to the issue of domestic productivity and foreign consumption: Increased productivity would generally strengthen the cedi and reduce inflation; while less obsession with everything aburokyire would mean less demand for the dollar and higher demand for the cedi. This is the responsibility of for every Tom, Dick and Harry (or Kwaku, Atinga and Fuseini). Government measures cannot possibly achieve much if we individually don`t play our parts as patriots, but would rather thwart or circumvent government fiscal and monetary policies.

I agree with bawumia that the government is untrueth and the current economic crises can be solve if the government officials and those policy makers who are at the same time Businessmen would stop persuing their own interest as against the Nation and make policy and programmes that would benefit the Country as a whole.

Ghana government must stop the Petrol economies due to the nature of our unplanned Transportation System .

2. there must be a flat realistic rate at our ports

3. there must be paycut at the excercutives-a lot of People are been paid for work no done

4.we must bring back Operation feed yourself

5.The government must be truethful, transparent, fair and think about the People they govern-

robbing the People to pay yourselfs and double the burden of the People would bring the Country to square 1

The credibility of this lecture is at stake,the central university should not let an opposition member to pollute the minds of students on the current economic situation,if it should do then there must be an equal team to debate for students to discern for themselves.This is purely politics not academic.All what the twice failed vice presidential candidates was just trying to do is just to score some points for his pending candidature and win some sympathy towards the opposition party.He should tell us which Government has ever dealt properly with corruptions including his party when ex president Koufour himself under pressure of corruptions told the whole world that corruption is as old as Adam.He should also tell me where that the national debts has not being a problem.Since independent our national debts continuous to rise simply not because of governments but a whole range of issues.Policy credibility to instil confident in investors,he should tell Ghanaians and since he knows which fiscal policy do we need,this is hypocrisy.That is why such people should not give such lectures ,we need those who would contribute to the national economy,give solutions not those who would withheld information pretending to know all.His lecture lacks merit,no clear point as to how to solve our problems,such lectures should be problem solving oriented not witch hunting ventures, what to do with problems if there is any.This is another intellectual jargon that can not be implemented.He should tell us in clear terms what to do but even if he knows which i know he does not and would prefer to say unless NPP comes to power before ,but i bet you they would do worse ,push further the national debts ,and do worse because we have tried them before we know how they work.Cutting coat according to size yes is good but when NPP was in power did they ? no, they awarded so much road contracts out that even infringes into the regime of the coming NDC Government and disabled their financial stability,the new Government has to suspend their plans only to make sure contracts under their Government was not left out since the public would not understand.He also warned that the currency is slumping further down abyss,to me is not a warning if not would have given alternative contribution as to what to do but he is rather cursing the NDC Government to further mess up the economy and wishing that even things should failed so that his third time bid would succeed.What sort of University is that standing on one footed knowledge, We do not go to University to read one but Books by different Authors.The central University must as a University if it wants to become a credible global University should desist from subjective lectures.
