Amidu Sulemana, the Roads Minister said the revenue from the tolls was not enough to "maintain" the Tema motorway and it required money, we are talking about serious money, he said. If the amount from the tolls cannot be used to maintain the highway, then, the verdict is sealed, in that, there's absolutely nothing the NDC gov't can ever do on this planet. They are completely unfit for purpose, and should be jettisoned.

If the figures provided in this piece are accurate, then the Minister for Roads and Highway should be ashamed for saying on Citi FM that the money from the tool is not sufficient to maintain the Motor Way. Where is all the money collected gone to?
Most of the money ends up in the private pockets of the workers and officials. That is what is happening all over Ghana including the ports. That is why the government has no money to pay public workers, buy fuel to produce energy, pay NHIS, schools, etc and yet President Mahama keeps going round the country making promises. The solution should be the introduction of electronic payment of the tool.

All toll booths have been contracted to a company owned by the brother of the former Road and Transport Minister (Gidisu). The contract stipulates 40% of the collection goes to this company and 60% goes to the road fund. Why cant this toll collection run by Ghana Revenue Authority so that all surplus go to the government. The % that goes to Gidisu brother, a % of that goes to the NDC party coffers. That is the truth so how do you expect repairs to be done on this motor way

So, if grown and educated men could not understand the wisdom behind "small drop of water makes an ocean", then we're doomed.
Another problem from these fools is, we allowed those who couldn't make a cedi's profit and reinvest it in their private lives to get access to big money as ministers and developed a habit of stealing these monies with impunity so a daily toll that amounts to millions in a year is still no money to them simply because as the toll comes in so it disappears in to private pockets and the rest ends up as pay roll to the same ungrateful minister. So here they share it and could not see its accumulation effect in years down the road.

Now that we have the figures what is the Minister saying about the huge money paid to the government from motorists using the motorway?? The Ministry should now come clean to tell us what arrangements are being put in place to give the motoray a complete rehabilation to make it safe and avoid accidents on it especially in the night. The Minister should stop the mud throwing tactics and get seriously to work.

It appears most critics of the gov't suffer from amnesia. Rawlings ruled Ghana for almost 20 damn years and most of these infrastructure deteriorated under his watch. This is the same Rawlings who wants the gov't to furnish his new house before he moved in. Sadly, he collapsed industries, banks, buildings, schools, roads, etc., built during the CPP era, while Ghanaians cheered him on as "Junior Jesus". Let's not blame Mahama who has just been President for only a year. Unfortunately, it will take years for any gov't to clean up the mess created by Rawlings. Kuffour, who did his best cleaning up some of the mess, achieved far more for Ghana in 8 years than Rawlings did in his 20 year rule. The crazy thing is that this guy has the nerve to blame Kuffour, Mills, and everyone but himself. We Ghanaians should also blame ourselves for allowing this monster to rule for 20 yrs. In fact his own revolutionary men, Tsikatas, Ahois, Awunoors, etc ran away from him in the end when they finally realized they were dealing with a psycho.

I would first thank the writers for this good article. The attempt to set the historical background is highly commendable. However I lived in Tema until I completed university and I know for certain Rawlings rehabilitated the Motorway during his time in office. I can still picture him sitting in his patrol and driving the whole length of the Motorway lamenting it's deplorable state, including the surrounding woodlot which provided a measure of protection. He subsequently rehabilitated it. I left Ghana before Kufour's administration began so I don't know what has happened since.

We are all concerned with the state of our national properties and their maintenances. I wish you could come with some good working ideas that could help put our nation forward.
The Tema motorway has become a great concerned for all Ghana loving people, so I think you are one of the partiotic and rational people that could present a nice idea to help the nation in relation to road and its maintenance. The slogan that you presented 'Mahama the most stupid' says nothing since you failed to explain what makes him that in relation to the road.
The problem with our roads and their maintenances lies on the minds of the Ghanaians who work at the toll collection. The workers and some of the stake holders produce their own tickets and sold them to the motorists at the toll booths. This never help our nation.
Earlier my understanding was you could also make a revealing secret and the antidot to help bring solution to the numerous problems our nation faces due to our own unpatriotic characters of retrogression and destroy the nation mindedness-''ostrich and village mentalities''. Please, next time just do your very best to bring out an idea that can help solve som of our multicomplex problems than the using of abusive words.

do you think we as Ghanaians think that way? we have reversed that notion.do you remember what the deputy minister sacked recently said... she wants the millions as quickly as possible...without working for it.
God bless Nkrumah. Let us see corruption as corruption, not from political party's point of view. We must stop justifying or defending corrupt people in Ghana simple because we hate a particular government.
Yes, that was exactly the Al Qaeda terrorist groups in Ghana did to destroy Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the people of Ghana, those terrorist group never accepted any good project Nkrumah established in Ghana, beginning fro ...

Tweeeeeeaaaa is he your co equal?
Ok it was not Dr.Nkrumah idea but at least he had the willingness to help his people. What other ideas has our pocket politicians done for us?
First silly comment. Why cant you write sensible comments like what your fellow countrymen and women have written before you eh? Or are you a mortoway toll collector? Shame
Does it matter whether it was his idea or not? The important thing is that he was responsible for it's materialization.
and ye shall tell the truth and the truth shall make the people liberated....AMEN
Very sad. Very unfortunate. A pay-to-use road left to rot. Why?...Hmmmm
All the more reason why the roads and transport minister should have been kicked out for his recent crass statement about the motorway not making enough to repair the potholes on it.
The leaders of Ghana should learn from this motorway landmark and see thenselves as lunatics who do not deserve to lead a nation in any circumstance.

cry beloved ghana, crying forever!
The current state of the Tema Motorway is the direct results of failure by successive Governments to carry out what Nkrumah started. We only pay lip service to Nkrumah and abandon his plans and works
By your calculations multiply the GHC 10,080,000 by 2 if round trip usage is taken into consideration....
one could conclude that several MOTORWAYS would have been constructed with the type of revenue being generated.
All the money has been gave to wayome
