How effective are our reafforestation programs?
The (Bank of Ghana) BOG must ensure that foreign currencies are supplied to only Ghanaian importers of foreign goods. These must not fall into the hands of foreigners operating in Ghana who earn cedis but who would want to transfer funds to their shareholders in dollars.
Ghana has a market economy. Ghana is not an OECD country. Prices of goods and services in Ghana must be determined by demand and supply.
There is supply of certain currencies but absolutely no demand for those currencies. What should be the value of these currencies? These currencies include Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Swiss Franc, Danish krone, Swedish krona, Norwegian Krone. Swift transfers to Ghana in these countries must be rejected. All EU countries must transfer or bring to Ghana only Euros.
The global oversupply of United States dollars is disturbing.
On the contrary there is demand for chinese Yuan but there is no supply in Ghana.
We must not forget that the role of currency is to facilitate the exchange of goods and services. That is commodity-Money-Commodity (C-M-C)

The Forestry Commission is only doing these increases so that they can chop more. They are not satisfied with the ghc 10 million they get a year. Their pockets have grown deeper so they need more money to fill them. Look at how the Timber industry is collapsing. Many sawmills in Kumasi and Takoradi have closed down and sent all workers home. Cost of production keeps on rising in Ghana due to factors like constant increases in fuel prices on which the timber industry is heavily dependent on. Look at cost of electricity? This has sky rocketed as well. 2 years ago in November 2012, electricity prices went up by at 200% for the industry. Is this not killing the industry? What are all the laid off workers to do? The Timber Industry is dying in Ghana and to top it all, the FC adds another burden. The genuine Timber companies are suffering whilst chainsaw operators cut down trees in legitimate timber companies concessions and get away scott free with the help of FC's corrupt guards. Timber companies are then penalized. Ghana Government and the FC are killing the industry and it's well seen and known. It's a matter of time before Ghana will loose Timber as a foreign exchange earner. Shame on the FC.

Ghana is gradually becoming a desert. All timber exports must stop. We can't even get wood to roof our buildings. The next generation is going to suffer and posterity will never forgive us if we don't do anything now.

Please Forestry Commission, increasing the stumpage fee is not the solution; stop the leakages, develop the processing machinery to produce more finished products, stop the chiefs and politiicians from soring political points by forcing u to give out forests for farming, force the timber companies to sell a percentage of the wood to the fringe communities, monitor your technical officer and forest managers to stop conniving with loggers, close down unlicensed sawmills that intentionally setup close to the forest reserve...where do u think they get the logs from? bring back the forest plantation department... u collapsed it because all donor funds were going there and Forestry Department wasn't getting it. Rapid Response unit is a good idea but they will soon be like the Regional task force and can not bite coz they will be left with no option than to also join the 'cash and go'
