Fellow Ghanaians, don't believe these yakees, they are loosing everything they ones boasted off, military dominance, economic dominance social and political dominance and the only way to remain relevant is to look for another opportunity to look relevant. Even their own populace is kicking against this GMO food but the stupid governments in the third world for want of making money at the expense of their people will swallow this shit of an idea like a hungry baby. Africans are not guenea pigs. Resist this stupid science before it becomes an albatross like what they did with AIDS. They exported AIds to Africa thinking it will be an African problem so they can turn around and profit from the medication to treat it. Now it is knocking at their doors and they are trying very hard to fight it. American have no pamernent friends or permanent enemies. When they see you as an opportunity to gain, you are their friend, and you will become an enemy if you no longer fit into their long or short term objective. Classical example, they manipulated Iraq and Iran at different times in their history against each other.

It is difficult to understand why Ghana is trying to enter GMO production when the dangers are clear to see. Even in the USA which is championing this cause, many well-meaning personalities and bodies are opposed to it. GMO is definitely not the solution to hunger not to think of the adverse effects it will have on consumers' health.
Clearly in GMO, you will be dependent on the breeders for seeds since you cannot use crops harvested as seeds. And the monitoring mechanism - we can't say we have enough capacity. Let us not create problems where there are no problems. Ghana should not try.

Let's have the courage to take responsibility for our actions when deserved and stop blaming others. First it is people blaming the USA for the 1966 coup when it was Ghanaians who sought help in the destruction of their own country. Since then we have lost cases in courts with significant monetary consequences here at home and in the UK because we chose political party laced with tribal foolishness over nation. If the government administrations we have had since the infamous 1966 coup had worked well for us we would not need handouts from the world's industrious nations to feed ourselves, clothe and improve on some mindless projects even as most of those aid monies are stolen by the very political elite in Ghana.
If and when Ghanaians get to the point where we are capable of feeding ourselves on naturally grown crops we would not have to care who consumes GMO products. As we speak, Mr. Akosa, could you explain how something as simple as banana of the 70’s changed to these miniature bananas being sold on the streets and markets across Ghana? We have allowed laziness, the desire to get rich without work to get in the way of living morally decent lives in Ghana and we refuse to own up to all the fallacies of a democratic utopia that would bring in a rich life without work and when we fail we do what comes natural to a nation of tribal bigot; blame the USA and others. Let us take ownership for our failed country. We are bribed to sell our national assets to other nations piece by piece by our own leaders who sell us a pile of excuses but we believe them because of their tribal disposition. There gets to be a point our blame game becomes boring. Standup Ghana and be counted.
There is no Fanti or Fantse nation, no Ashanti nation, no Akan nation etc. The only one, love it or leave it is our beloved Ghana period. If most Ghanaians employed their talents of critical thinking like in the years gone by how is it a majority continue to suffer in Ghana through the good times and the bad times and yet the very people who contribute to this overall grief, like Nanan Akufo-Addo could go to UK for six months to rest and enjoy the comforts in a civilized developed UK only to come back and tell a bunch of non thinking followers he is ready to lead? How many of the foot soldiers and or Ghanaians in general have the luxury to go away when things are bad in Ghana? It is this continued dummying down of the Ghanaian thinking process that continues to give power in a few hands while the rest suffer. The last time I checked, America or UK's political leaders do not incite chaos on their soil and run to Ghana for vacation. Can any of you estimate the amount Nana Akufo-Addo, the president John Mahama and political elites spend when they are out on vacation in other countries? How much of the money could have been in circulation in the Ghana economy? Let us think for a change Ghana.

Instead, we sought to sell our nation for cheap, destroyed whatever was left for us and starded globe-jetting. A CONFUSED AND LOST GENERATON!

Everybody knows that the GM foods and organisms has never been the antidote to our food security problem, so it's mindboggling that it is even being entertained in the august house. Let's ask ourselves candidly, what percentage of our vast arable land about 97%, is used for mechanized, large scale agriculture, for which reason, one needs to adopt GM technology to ensure food security? The premise and the basis of this GM debate which include amongst others food security, better yield, shorter generation times, less use of chemicals, better variety, nutritious amongst others is flawed right from the onset. If less than 3% of your arable land is utilized in agricultural food production, wherein lies the basis of food insecurity? What about the disadvantages of the science of the genetics involved, considering the fact that, there's isn't much to go on about this GM thing, and most instructively, it has been rejected in their very place of origin? Ghana should approach this GM thing with caution and let the science evolve, and address the fundamental issues that are at the core of food insecurity, mass under utilization of our arable land using modern, mechanized techniques to produce more, addressing the access/transport to market and storage facilities from source, value addition and then, once those issues are exhausted, then Ghana can look at how GM comes into the picture. Because really, it would come down to the same thing, the foundation, the base would need to be built before GM technology if adopted would make any impact, because if Ghana adopts GM technology and it's using about 3% of it's arable land, with all the issues enumerated above, the supposed food security issue, would not be addressed, not by any stretch. In the same breath, one can make the case that, whilst thinking of large scale utilization, why not introduce GM technology, because, the science has not evolved in terms of it's health implications, so whichever way, one looks at it, the adoption of this GM technology, would have to be put on hold in the interim, to be revisited in about 60-80years down the line.
