Fully impregnated sycophancy can lead intellectuality to unsalvageable gibberish ness. Trumpeting Nkrumah,s good side without even whispering his bad side creates intellectual dishonesty. Nkrumah did well for Africa but did badly for Ghana. He squandered Ghana,s potential both ec onomically and politically to shore up is image as an overdrive ambitious person in African politics. Any person who was of age lived in Ghana between 1957 and1965 would attest to the suppression and oppression as well as economic chaos and abject lack of basic needs into Ghana. His industrial programme was a sham as they had all founded to a halt for the simple reason that Ghanaians did have the capacity to man those industries.don't talk of PDA! Primary 6 pupil was even a victim.
Tony Killick's assessment is perhaps desirable. Yes, Nkrumah could not matched by his contemporaries in the promotion of the "African Personality" but he was a disaster in creating a credible path the sustainable development of
Ghana. Did any body witness the spontaneity of welcome that greeted the 1966 coup across the length and breadth Ghana?

I had to finish this piece. This is awesome discuss this without emotions. What do we want, utopia freedom of spearch without food and water? Mr. Mensah, Which industries are you talking about? In any case Brother Kwateng gave references/ examples all in here and the previous issues and you had the opportunity and you could not even name the industry. The power industry is still active, the farming industry is still active (COCOBOD, Rubber etc), the townships including Tema, the Human resource industry (Secondary schools, UCC, KNUST). In fact those factories that died, did after Nkrumah. The tyre industry has seen rubber very active still. No body ever said Nkrumah was GOD but the lies and propaganda that went into silencing the masses you proclaimed to have responded was due the lies NLM, Northern peoples party etc propagated with the with the help of CIA. Don't we see evidence today. They did the dirty work of the CIA and You said Nkrumah did not do much for Ghana? All presidents to Mahama could not much match the work of his 10 struggling years and every Ghanaian knows it. You do believe that, the republic of Akan, Northerners, Ewe, Muslim will serve Ghana better? His was our best bet. Read the article again and again before you comment.

When it comes to the values and interests of the west they don't compromise. Their philosophy is always geared to their advantage and you are either with them or against them. When Dr Kwame Nkrumah decided on a different path of development which was not the western style of development and what they will approve, they declared war against him and all the resources of their intelligence agencies were employed to make sure that he fails.African leaders like Houphouët–Boigny a puppet of the west and their close confidant was used to destabilize Nkrumah and other pan Africanist leaders.
Ironically they called Nkrumah a dictator because he ran a one party state just like Houphouët–Boigny. Perhaps since he had been assimilated into a “white man in black skin” by their policy of assimilation and recognized him as their own, once he was doing their bidding, he does no wrong. Dr J B Danquah was a subtle victim of the same “I am a virtual white man mentality syndrome" which did not go down well with his own people but had their support. If they perceive you as not belonging to their camp then you are always wrong.
No wonder that apart from accusing Dr Nkrumah as a dictator, they also accused him of coming up with obnoxious laws like the PDA. Incidentally the west and his accusers are themselves not above board on this type of law as a deterrent. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Central Intelligence Agency embarked on a highly classified program of secret detention and extraordinary rendition of terrorist suspects.
The program was designed to place detainee interrogations beyond the reach of law. Suspected terrorists were seized and secretly flown across national borders to be interrogated by foreign governments that used torture, or by the CIA itself in clandestine “sites” using torture techniques. The details of this torture camps are best left out because they make a sad reading. The most important thing about Dr Kwame Nkrumah though was his legacy
History vindicates him and his opponents have lost the argument. In Namibia, during the recent Pan African lecturers on his legacy they came up with this summary of him and I quote ‘Nkrumah is unique in the modern history of Africa. History created Nkrumah and he created history. He was always ahead of others; he was the first to build a mass anticolonial organization. His political legacy is complex and controversial. Many years have passed since he was removed from office, but his stature has not faded. All bear witness to his prominence’.

Brother, on the above claim, I have to disagree with you. Akans are independent minded people and we have never assumed the above posture in Ghana's political history and you must give us that credit. Remember, we have never stood as one people in the political life of Ghana. Every government in Ghana enjoys the vote of one Akan group or the other to secure power. Even Jerry Rawlings revolution which killed judges because they were Akans enjoyed Akan votes to metaphorzised itself into NDC. So pleased do a critical assessment here to give Akans in Ghana their due credit. The nature of Akin people has indeed hold Ghana together as a nation in my opinion.

Dear Kosovo,
How are you?
I agree with you. Remember I am Akan myself. My father is from Aduman and my other is from the Cape Coast. It's why I am called Yaw Kwarteng...hahahahaha.
That said, Air Vice Yaw Boakye was my paternal uncle. My father is an ex-soldier, so was one of my father's elder brothers. My father joined the military and was stationed in Tarkoradi.
Also my father worked in the Pay Office (Tarkoradi)where Rawlings and others came for their pay. However, he was later transferred to Teshie-MATS (Military Academy And Training Schools).
We then relocated to a locality a couple of blocks (Teshie Manguase) away from MATS upon my father's discharge from the military. In other words, I know a bit about the AFRC and Ghana's military history. I also went to school (partly designed for childrens of military families), a walking distance from where my uncle Yaw Boakye, Acheampong, Afrifa, Amedume, Akuffo, and others faced their deaths.
Let's come back to your concern: The issue has to do with Busia's unjustfied sacking of Ewe civil servants during his presidency.
However, I made those statements in the broader sense of the Asante leadership of the NLM, of which Busia served as its leader, as well as of BF Kusi's statement to the effect that "Ashanti is a nation...Population does not make a country.
I should have been more clear on this. In fact, the issue was Asante suprmacy. I am sorry. Sometimes I carried away because I hate ethnocentrism! But I hope I have adequately explained myself. I do appreciate your critical reading nonetheless.
Thanks Brother Kosovo.

Well explained! As we all know Asante supremacy and arrogance is not exhibited only to non-Akans but to other Akan groups. And Busia is one particular politician whose inferiority complex made him bow to that 'Asante nonsense'. Remember, he did has problem with Bono people when he said "Emmerie afifri ebeen mu". He carried that complexes throughout his life--explain why he became more British than the British themselves. And you will find such individuals or group with such parochial mindset amongst any ethnic group. But thanks for the clarification.
