Ghana alliance for clean cookstoves advocate for LPG

The Ghana Alliance for Clean Cookstores and Fuel with support from the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has held a National Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) workshop to advocate for improved LPG dissemination in the country. The workshop aimed at bringing together producers, distributors and users of LPG products to brainstorm on the challenges and opportunities in the Ghanaian LPG sector. Speaking at the workshop, the Deputy Director of the Petroleum Directorate for the Ministry of Energy and petroleum, Kwame Bona Siriboe, said the ministry is making serious efforts in increasing access and consumption in urban areas. He pledged the ministry’s support to facilitate the construction of LPG storage tanks to increase the nation’s storage capacity to the required 100,000 tones, in the long term. The Regional Market Manager of Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, Kwesi Sarpong, said 50% percent of LPG should be adopted through investment and infrastructure such as pipeline and storage facilities across the nation. He also added that the requirement of data is necessary in the collection of LPG. CUE…………………KWESI SARPONG Meanwhile, the Director of the Ghana Global Alliance for clean cookstoves, Faustina Boakye, said the target is to ensure that about 5million homes in Ghana use clean energy while cooking since the old traditional way of cooking is hazardous to human health. She lamented that the amount of smoke women inhale during cooking is equivalent to smoking three packets of cigarette a day, which is harmful to the body.
