We have had 47 years of socialist/Nkrumah leaning governments and yet our education system is nothing to write home about, they had many opportunities to re-introduce the free education so why did they not do it. Our current low education standards was the results of JJ and his party for implementing a system that the country was not ready for because of the lack of labs/tools and required funding. Providing free and quality education (at least to the secondary level) is neither a socialist/communist or capitalist idea -- it just a good idea to move any nation forward. All successful countries do it -- China, US, UK, Germany and the list goes on.

We must neither falsify nor "propagandize" history. Free education was the brain child and in the manifesto of UGCC. Those of us who were in school during the regimes of Nkrumah, NLC and Busia enjoyed free education under all these regimes. Acheampong overthrew Busia in the name of Nkrumah and scrapped free education. It also removed allowances for university students. I was a victim. These were not restored by AFRC, Nkrumahist PNP or NDC. It was Kufuor who mitigated the costs of education by introducing the capitation grant and the school feeding programme. The Mills/Mahama regime removed the allowances to Teacher Training schools. Are these not the facts? Why this intellectual laziness? Is it how far propaganda is taking some of us? Ghana deserves better than this. The truth, like the cork, can never be submerged under water. Let the people not perish for lack of available knowledge. Facts are eternally sacred.

The fee-free education by late Kwame Nkrumah got started in 1960 in Primary and Middle Schools where free text books and other stationery were supplied. Even in those times pupils were asked to bring blooms, palm kernel nuts to be sold to support the running of schools. Secondary School education was not free and how can University education be free at that time?

This kind of propaganda is not going to do any one good but rather poison the mind of the weaker in the society. You are totally wrong by spewing false information that the fee free education program was overturned before 1966. At the time I was leaving middle school in 1967, the program was still in existence. Don't just hide out there and spread false information which tells the sort of individual you are.

With Justice Atuguba sorting help from well to do in society to help his Kayaye clans, what we are going to see is unnecessary taxes from this incompetent administration whose main thinking is tax and spend with no vision in sight of job creation. E&OE.
